Good Points: Great customer service.
Bad Points: Renewal price wasn't the cheapest around.
General comments: I used the Post Office to cover myself and my boyfriend last year. They gave us a fantastic price, so I snapped it up. As with all car insurance I made sure I read through the T&C CAREFULLY, and I didn't encounter anything out of the ususal. You shouldn't assume and/or rely on a company to do everything for you.
The few times I phoned them I got very cheerful UK based call-centre staff on the other end who were polite and always very helpful. This continued right up until the end of the police, when I phoned them to cancel my renewal. The chap even went as far as telling me what to look out for when insuring my new car with another provider, even after I told him I wouldn't be staying with the PO!

I wouldnt touch their car insurance again. I had read lots of bad reviews about them charging you £20 every time you call them regarding a query but thought if I paid in full once I received the documents there wouldnt be a problem. More fool me! You get a 14 day cooling off period so you can make changes without a charge but if you dont recieve you documents within 14 days of your policy which I didnt you will be charged. Let me recap - Their fault in not even posting documents out in ti ...

Are these companies just having a laugh at existing customers - relying on apathy to see what they can get away with?

As with so many companies these days "sorry" is a word that doesn't pass the lips of their staff easily. As a result, at some point in your dealings with them you will feel the need to say something like "Isn't this where you say - 'I'm sorry Mr/Mrs Customer.......'
Their desire to solve your problem is minimal - if your experience is like mine. The staff do not see you as someone who needs help; you are the problem.

I have been with the Post office for about 3 years and do not mind paying over the top for their service. It s not all about getting a good deal on the repayments but for me it was far more important to deal with an established company who use British approved insurers, not like direct choice who use some outfit based in the Caribbean. Unfortunately I did have a problem renewing the insurance as I checked out Confused.com which is very good but their quote for the Post Office came out nearly 150 ...

I took Post Office Car Insurance on price, I had 6yrs NCD, which they reduced to 5yrs after no explanation, at a cost £54; they never replied to e-mail, calls or letters. Then they said i had 3yrs NCD, which was a mixup with my wife's insurance as we had previously been in the same company. I now have to lose £200 in cancellation fees or face paying the fees for a solicitor to go to arbitration for the dispute. Not once have I a phone call to ask details and all the official document ...

I bought a policy covering me and my partner for business use but when the documents arrived the business use only covered the main driver. In addition the policy made no mention of cover when towing trailers.
When I tried to cancel because they hadn't supplied what I asked for they said I had to pay a £35 cancellation charge.
The last time I deal with the Post office for insurance!

The post office informed my son if they hadn't received proof of his security system that they would cancel his policy he was told to fax them through to the customer service agent before the 13th feb, so we faxed them on the 12th then he gets a letter saying they cancelled the policy on the 11th due to not receiving the proof, the letter they sent was dated 13th and the letter said they were cancelling on the 12th (hows that work) to cut a long story short they cancelled his policy even though ...

My son applied for fully comp car insurance with post office, aged 26 other years just 3rd party, his trade is a car macanic. he was not told at point of sale that because of his job 3rd party cover to drive other cars not owned by him would be disallowed.
Now up for 6 points plus huge fine. post office have admitted on phone that this should have been flagged on computer and failed to inform him when on submitted to underwriters. The post office have A DUTY OF CARE to ensure that customers are ...

I did not realise there were charges attached if you want to change vehicle(eg buy new car) and I think this should be made clear at purchase of policy, although competitive initially after charges I am not convinced.

For years I accepted the renewal from another company. When I compared prices instead of £278 third party fire & theft (including breakdown of £94) the Post Office offered me fully comprehensive car insurance for £125.

Do not go with the Post Office unless you are certain your circumstances are not going to alter otherwise it WILL cost you as they are ruthless. The cheapest is not always the best I learnt by my very costly mistake.

Cheapest quote, good customer services, I have 2 policies with the Post Office Car Insurance and I needed to add my daughter who'd just passed her test on to one of them. Very helpful response and suggested I stop my current policy and start a new one to include my daughter as it would be much cheaper (it was by about £300 A MONTH!! 4 months later my daughter goes travelling for 3 months followed by Uni so I rang them again to take her off the policy. No problems done in seconds, a smal ...

You would think that as this is their business, Post Office Car Insurance would have a system for sharing information with the relevant parties, in a standardised format, but there is little evidence of organisation.

I took out this policy because 'The Post Office' is a huge and long-standing brand name and I was lured by the £50 postal order! I completely regret this move-
I had a no fault claim in December- a minor prang on my classic car- due to age, the car was written off automatically and I was given no courtesy car-they refused to even consider a repair and my car was taken away- I asked to retain my car- they agreed they would return it after their assessor had seen it -my car has now been ...

After having no problems with my previous insurers, I stupidly got taken in by the "match your quote and £50 cashback". 8 months into my insurance I changed my car. I rang Post Office car insurance for a quote, but found my new insurance was £150 dearer, even though the car was a lower insurance group. I got a better quote with someone else and decided to cancel, only to find that I was being charged the £115 left of my cover, but also an additional £35 cancellation fee.

Simple form to fill out online, quick phone call, freephone, to verify details and make payment. £50 cashback received within 10 days of the Post Office car insurance policy start date. Very efficient and simple. I would recommend.

After comparing in detail online numerous insurance companies' policies, I saw an advertisement in the Post Office which matched the premium price of my selected brand-name best-buy, but also offered £50 cash-back, which I think is a great deal.
