The interior superb, the exterior so wonderful, in short; everything about the bus i love them all, but the manual was written in German. I need an English manual for the bus. (read more)

this is one of the nicest vans i have driven. Haveing said that i had a 20 year old VW carravelle which had less problems than this one did in the 2 yrs i owned it . Paid 500 quid for the vw & 5000 for the merc hmm .
I just had the radiator replaced because of a crack in the expansion tank , which really should be 2 units but oh no if 1 goes you need to buy both . Oh and got the van back from MERCEDES and the radiator was 4 LITRES short of being topped up . Well as if that doesnt give me... (read more)

There is no headlight height adjuster on my v class. I think this is because the air suspension system is ment to keep v class level. So there is no need for adjuster. My v class had spring conversion when I got it, so can't compare. But back end is high and headlight beam seems to fall short on the road. I'm thinking of changing it back to how it's ment to be.

after having a zafira for 5 years we needed a full size 7 seater so bought our v230. certainly not a great choice. i would agree with nearly all other comments that it is a great vehicle to drive it is really comfortable to ride in and cruises well. seats are comfy and and plenty of room and lots of extras on ours. the cruise control is good, air con, traction control etc.
but the car is so unreliable, unless you are a mechanic it is so expensive to run. it seems that every few weeks we... (read more)

Beautiful drive and car. If you want an MPV with style this is one to top 'em.
Enjoyed driving round in this and sitting in the back at the seaside with my children around the table with a big bag 'o chips and a cuppa..luxury!
(somtimes we would eat more healty food like olives with humous and cous cous, etc.)
The fuel doen't go a long way ...about 20 MPG...the electrics have been a little tempremental...but, realisticaly, it is 12 years old now!
Love blacked out rear windows too.
Would have... (read more)

Apart from the luxury cruise drive, view and space, I found this Mercedes Benz V-Class 2.3 Ambiente to be a poor poor vehicle, having owned my 98 v230 a year, its actually been fault free a week of it, just after having the autobox remapped. But hey, let your battery go flat and recharge and maybe your air suspension and autobox will work again like mine, for a week!

I bought this car in 1999 new. A complete disaster. Faults way too numerous to mention. Hire cars, lost business, ENORMOUS servicing bills, and unbelievable warrarny claims, gearbox, torque converter, electrics (ALL), power steering (downright danger to other road users), water pumps, head gaskets, replaced all windows, replaced all door locks, air conditionning, you name it this car has had it. It has also had an engine rebuild, and in 9 years of annually driving to France for our summer... (read more)

“Awful to drive, v plasticy interior, bodys rust fast. ”

Written on: 22/05/2008

Awful to drive, v plasticy interior, bodys rust fast.
Faulty electrics, door locking, continuous engine problems, missfires, engine mountain fell off damaging lots of pipes and hoses, battery drain which could not be found meant we had to disconedt the battery each night! Air suspension blows fuses constantly, most people end up replacing with dampers sooner or later, brakes wear very quickly on automatics. Awfull, would not buy another merc out of principal. I had my Mercedes V Class for 2 years. It is the last model of v230. I bought it 2nd hand from a VIP owner and had 60,000 miles on it, after putting additional 30,000 miles to it. It is reliable MPV and excellent comfort ride. Go easy on petrol if in the highway. Not that thirsty as other MPV in its class. Large windscreen and good driver's vision. One of the best full size MPV in the market so far no one can beat V230 not even the new v-class v320... (read more)

All in all the Mercedes Benz V-Class 2.3 V230 Ambiente is a pretty solid MPV and has few build faults. From my experiences with mine, it is very comfortable and high up which is good for viewing ahead. Parts can be pricey. It still drives like the Vito and not like the car, like the other MPVs mostly do. (read more)

The Van has some weak spots, once you take care of these, the Van gives lots of fun.

Bought as a second hand, I directly started to take care of the weak points.
I have used mine as a passenger carrier, transporter and it has been pimp inside and out.

It has been through half of Europe (at one point 5 European countries within 24 hours) and have been driving better than any car I have had. Even better than my Volvo V70 T5.

I wouldn't get rid of this car for the world. The possibilities... (read more)

Written on: 10/09/2005 by jayg (1 review written)

Our 1998 V-Class has proved that the mighty Mercedes Benz has lost it's prestige and association with quality, making way for vehicles that would make the old Skoda Marque blush. These vehicles are poorly engineered, poorly built with sub standard parts. Paint peels off interior panels, auto gearbox fails, radiator leaks, tyres wear quickly and unevenly, electronics are forever blowing fuses, and the fuse for one ancillary often affects another. I worked for eight years in quality for a... (read more)

We had ours for 5 years from just over a year old. It's a very comfortable drive - haveing been all over europe, getting out of the seats, you would not realise you had been driving for 6 hours.

After about 3 years old, it has suffered numerious faults, mostly electrical, not helped by the dealerships approach to fixing electrical faults - one one occation it started overheating - replaced thermostat, still overheating - replaced second thermostat, still overheating - found broken wire... My Mercedes Benz V-Class 2.3 V230 Ambiente is the worst car that I have ever owned. I have changed the drive shafts (£1,200), Gear change lever £600, suspension bellows three times (£600 each time), suspension pump £1,000 etc etc.
If you buy one of these Mini Buses you need your head testing. (read more)

“Having owned a very high quality and reliable Mercedes...”

Written on: 25/01/2005 by iandownie (1 review written)

Having owned a very high quality and reliable Mercedes estate, a Mercedes people carrier was an obvious choice. However we have never been more disappointed or suffered so many problems with any vehicle ever. Bought the Mercedes Benz V-Class 2.3 V230 Ambiente Mini Bus at 10,400 miles, we only later found out that the vehicle had already had a continuous stream of warranty repairs prior to our purchase. The trouble started on the first day of ownership when the windows came down, but wouldn't... (read more)

A "Mercedes" made in Spain. Need I say more (I live there by the way). Funny thing is "Mercedes" is a Spanish girls“name (it means "Mercies"). There must be a pun there somewhere (merciless review, etc).

Carl Benz and Mr. Daimler went partners in the first Mercedes car--the French weren't too fond of the Germans and Daimler was a German-sounding name. A Mr. Jellinek was a large investor in the new firm and thought the Daimler name would spoil sales in France. He suggested the car be named after his daughter Mercedes. Mercedes seems to be based on the Spanish word merced meaning grace, with mercedes being the plural. Mercies is listed in the dictionary as a somewhat antique synonym in English.
