“Very little new functionality in the Software”

★★★☆☆

written by ValeryCochrane on 30/10/2020

We have been Mamut users for over 10 years and have found the product very robust, easy to update and easy to use. However, a few years ago Mamut nearly doubled the support charges to way above the industry standard of 20% and seem to stop all major development of the software. This years update 2020 has seen virtually no new features and this is the same for the last 5 years. When asked for an update list of features for the last few years I was told there are no new features so we no longer do a list. It seems to me that the new owners Visma are developing many new features on their hosted product and are just milking existing Mamut customers as they know the cost and time to move is prohibitive.

“Look for something else. This software has serious...”

I have been a Mamut Enterprise E3 user for 10 years, and now I am fed up with the problems that never get solved. The final drop: Mamut fails when sending invoices by email, and they are not able to fix the problem.

Mamut software used to be excellent. Then they sold to Visma and it's gone hugely down hill. Couldn't sort out an issue for months on end to do with VAT. Do not recommend

“Worst Customer Support in History”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MeadowRowe462 on 13/09/2014

This is the worst sales/ accountancy package I have ever used. I almost switched back to BPICS. The customer support is non existant, and they fail to solve the simplisit of problems. Avoid at all costs. ITs also a rip off, I got roped into using it for 3 years, no switching to sales force.

“Terrible Software, Terrible Support. - DO NOT BUY.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/07/2013

A sales man came to see us after us receiving funding. The Several thousand pounds it actually costs after the quote (quote as in fictitious, made up figures to get you to commit to it). We then moved over to Mamut and found a subsidiary of Mamut to help with our data export/import. (Yet another expensive cost). We have been using the software for 2 years now and the Software is constantly failing, but the most frustrating part of Mamut is ... When you have an error the support is abysmal. We have been without a computer system now for 4 days and Mamut support is still unable to fix what is obviously a simple database error. Mamut are not bothered about existing customers once they have your money. Although the people who sell it must be on good commission to sell it. We are now having to invest a lot of money to get addons to do the job it was supposed to do in the first place. DO NOT BUY IT.

“Microsoft Professional Fan”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Arno73 on 21/06/2013

Working in various positions in finance from desk clerk to finance director for nearly 2 decades I've come across a wide variety of accounting packages, I've seen many implementations and worked with many packages. I can say that with a massive distance Mamut is by far the worst accounting program I've ever worked with and it is not even necessary to take the cost into account to win that comparison. In the pre digital era people worked with ledger books. In my perception the best accounting software is extremely simple to use and extremely simple to implement. The most important aspect however is that the time saving outweighs the cost so that you actually make money by saving on your overheads as a result of using an accounting package. This made me a big fan of MSO Professional the most profitable accounting software I ever used, being a big fan of MSO professional was the reason I tried Mamut. That proved to be the worst decision I've ever made in my career. It is slow, not efficient, and not flexible and the learning curve is enormous even if you have worked and implemented accounting software for years. For a small business it is a definitive no no. An experienced accountant can work with it, but will very likely soon regret giving up his previous program in exchange for Mamut. In addition their customer service is poor and they don't score well on a cost comparison either. The only thing great about Mamut is their sales strategy. That is where it stops. If the historical destiny of their namesake is any indication I'm pretty sure that once people start catching on to what Mamut really is a great marketed brand but a horrible product and service, we all know were Mamut will end. Good riddance I would say. This animal should never have been resurrected for it once was a majestic animal, nowadays it is a monstrosity pretending to be a great software accounting package.

“Used to be Fantastic”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RodatAlston on 18/04/2013

We've been using MYOB Accounting Edge Plus and its predecessors for about 8 years. It used to be a fantastic product but since Mamut took over it's just got progressively worse. What's more they're pretty unethical to deal with - for example, they send you an invoice for your renewal one month before the end of your term and then tell you you have to give three months notice to cancel. The product still works well but it's not really progressed in 8 years and there is still no web based solution available. Every upgrade they release crashes our servers. I'd now recommend looking at alternatives like Sage, which we plan to move to later this year.

“Poor company”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 19/02/2013

I've been using this software for about 6-7 years. The software is good although look and interface is very outdated and almost childlike. The company that now owns the software is very poor. They have extended there terms which they describe as for my benefit, but they have extended backwards. You now have to pay early and within you existing license period. They have effectively invoiced twice in the same financial year. The customer service agent describes this as helping me plan cash flow. It does the opposite, taking money out of the business way before it's due. There are now other products in the market from other companies that are better and if I was starting now I would go elsewhere. They are aggressive with a smile.

“Great value for money”

★★★★★

written by on 23/01/2013

My company bought Mamut Enterprise about 6 months ago now. We were looking for a system that included networking capability, CRM, Accounts and rich stock control functionality after outgrowing Quickbooks. We evaluated the software first and after comparing to other vendors we took the plunge based on the functionality Mamut includes and price. The software is not that intuitive so it took some time to get to grips with. However, 6 months on its one of the best business decisions we have made. Support have been excellent when required and help files on their web site and within the software are useful, (although they are not open at weekends). We have just set up Mamut online desktop which will allow our sales reps to process through orders on their smart phones while on the road, which will really help our business. All in all a really good system.

I honestly do not believe that an independent user of Mamut could ever be optimistic about the product. Either he has never worked with another product "any" would do for that test or he his aligned. I might be doing you an injustice with my comment if so sorry and please consider trying another package just to make sure Mamut deserves your praise.

“Dont buy Mamut”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 22/01/2013

I have used MYOB for 5 years and was duped into believing that I needed Mamut. I purchased the version with CRM, Stock Control etc but never got to implement it. I was told there was a tool to transfer data from MYOB but then when I asked for the tool it was no longer available. I have worked on numerous ERP implementations as an IT consultant but this software just doesnt make it easy for you to use it. It took them months to get back to me as the licence kept becoming out of date. They had me on a temp licence instead of a full licence even though I had paid them for everything up front. In the end I got so frustrated that I just told them to cancel my licence. No refund was available. In short a terrible business to deal with (if you can get through to somebody) and no support on line. Dont do it.

“Horrible treatment by Mamut Netherlands”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Chris-Netherlands on 28/12/2012

After 3 years of being a Mamut customer, we decided that we are better off without Mamut. We have been purchasing 9 service agreements for about € 5.100 per year but the real support is simply poor! No value for money at all. Besides that connecting Mamut to your Webshop is a real hell. By purchasing their API for a mere € 1.000 give you a real look at the poorly designed software with even more limited possibilities. Bad choice.don't do it.

“POOR EXPENSIVE AND YOU ARE STUCK WITH IT”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 10/08/2012

We were advised that this accountacny software pakage (our first) was the right and best product for our small busines. As we had no experience in such solutions we got support from business link and they arranged for a visit by one of their 'recommneded suppliers' to and design our system. These were actually sales reps selling way over spec products at premium prices, and very expensive hardware packages. We ended up paid £3000 for installation and support which we never got I quickly had to learn a bit of IT and accountancy as well as running my business to make it work myself. Huge problems with rounding and discount anomilies(simply maths doesnt seem to be a feature of this product (10 items at 10.99 less 10% discount displayed as £98.89!!)and after bearing with it for a year i was too deep to exit.... then followed the support package renewal which is compulsory. The inappropriate and ever increasingly aggressive renewal reminders begin arriving 3 and 4 months before the new lease is even due. This year im told ive been transeferred to a new product at on £470!! a 25% increase for additional knobs and whistle i dont want or need. The account manager(sales rep) tells me there is no other cheaper product.... there is!! so whilst in the process of enquiring about another cheaper licence they just stopped my package and everything dissapears. you need up with no access to you historic information and are trapped. AFTER 7 YEARS im off to SAGE. Good luck

“Ever felt you've been had?”

written by on 25/07/2012

Having used MYOB for over 15 years it seemed this would be the obviuos route to take for change of accountnacy package as MYOB was going Read Only on 31st December 2011. I upgraded my MYOB on my mac and this reasonably well priced and changed very little. So when we came to upgrading MYOB on our PC's the price rocketed to buy MAMUT. The extremely charmimg salesman even convinced me it would be a very good idea to buy 2 years of service contracts so we could avoid any price increases. I then tried started using it in January 2012, as there had been an extension of when the 'Read Only' period was going to start. I found that it would not produce the bespoke Invoices I needed. I spoke to their help desk and was told that what I needed was not easily achieved. I took the decision to get out as quick as possible and buy an alternative accounting package. I have tried over the following 6 months to get a refund from MAMUT for the extra years service contract bought and I have been totaaly ignored. Eqaully MYOB is still working so don't know why we had to upgrade at all.

“Worst business purchase I have ever made!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 31/05/2012

We have used Mamut E3 since 2005 and we're unfortunately stuck with it! We have just been told they are giving us a "free" upgrade to their Mamut ONE product with loads of bells and whistles that you can use online when away from the office. What they don't mention in all the bumf they send you (unless it’s in the small print) is the fact that the compulsory service agreement is nearly doubling in price!! The extra online functionality is extremely slow to use, limited in functionality as well pointless and unnecessary for me as I get full functionality when away from the office by logging in to my work PC from the cheap as chips and excellent LogMeIn service. But now I have to pay the service agreement for this Mamut one web based ability for all 6 members of staff even though I’m the only one who would ever need off site access! We decided to look at other options to move away from Mamut and found some good systems that seem to have moved with the times (unlike Mamut, more of that below) only to realise that if we cancel our service agreement with Mamut we will lose all our data as the software won’t run without a service agreement. The software itself is excruciatingly slow and full bugs it takes 4 minutes to open up on my fairly powerful and newish Dell Precision pc, although a colleagues older and slower machine on the desk next to me only takes 30 seconds?? (Their tech guys can’t figure it out either and tell me to buy a new server even though there’s nothing wrong with the hardware) it also regularly crashes about 3 times a day, it also forgets which printer it should be printing various reports and invoices or delivery notes from end prints them to random printers instead it is just horrendously unstable. Each new version is a nightmare to install and always presents new problems and bugs that never seem to get ironed out. Other than the online function that they have introduced the actual desktop version has barely changed since we started using it. There is still no automated way of emailing statements to customers, you have to manually create each email. The webshop function is pathetic. It is supposed to seamlessly connect and sync with Microsoft outlook however that just makes outlook crash. The stock control is suspiciously inaccurate and creates weird anomalies depending which part of the program you’re in. Your account manager at Mamut seems to change regularly as I presume they get cheesed off with angry customers and leave. I can’t recommend this to anyone; buy sage or an abacus or anything else.

Ledger books are a great alternative compared to Mamut as well. Excel is a Rolls Royce compared with mamut being a bicycle. I'm not angry with Mamut; I just want to warn prospective buyers who are considering Mamut. Take it of your list and don't waste another second on it.

“good value for money”

★★★★☆

written by on 31/01/2012

In my opinion you get a lot for what you pay. I've got CRM, billing, product, stock, projects etcetera all in one. You are able to set lot's of settings in Mamut. If been using Mamut since 2007 for two different companies (on the same license). I've used office pro en office start. I am a light user: one user a time and not that much data and for that Mamut works fine. Helpdesk is ok. On the telephone you get good support. In evening and weekends you have to wait or use tutorials. I don't like the recent service-upgrade you have to make because of the new internet extra's which I don't use, but it will cost me more per month.

“An expensive mistake”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 31/08/2011

We bought the E3 version of Mamut Business software for our small business and regretted it. Apart from being slow and unreliable it can't round numbers properly so our invoices are often incorrect by a penny (e.g. 9.99 item shows as 10.00 in total). Not a large amount of money but it drives our accountant mad. Their tech support can't resolve it, apparently it might get fixed in a future version but it has been like this for a long time. How can a company possibly claim to produce serious accounting software that can't round numbers properly? They don't have telephone support outside normal working hours which means that if you have a business which is busy during weekends and public holidays you can end up scuppered should something go wrong (as it did for us) on a Saturday morning of a very busy bank holiday. So, we are now in the process of moving to something else with proper tech support that can actually calculate financial figures properly after wasting literally thousands of pounds. Check out the only 5 star review here that reads like a cut and paste from a marketing department and be very suspicious...

written by on 17/05/2011

We bought Mamut accounting in 2010 after training had been cancelled twice finally managed to get onto a training day at which point we found out we had been mis-sold the product and it was not suited to our company. However the trial period had lapsed and were stuck with the system. The trainer explained he would come to our company and simplify the system and offer training to the cost of about another £600. For some reason it would not upload on to the computer and he suggested we buy a new computer (another £350). Discovered the amounts that had been put in, the remote help we then had said that the figures had not been entered correctly and did not make any sense. Money so far spent on a system that hasnt been touched... £1632

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 12/05/2011

We were duped into buying Mamut E5 as it was recommend by Microsoft as a replacement for MS Accounting (Microsoft's rob dogs decided suddenly not to support Accounting in the UK even though we'd just brought their system.)
Anyway, we found Mamut complicated, cumbersome, slow, flaky and more trouble than it was worth. So much so that it was never used (money down the drain, but lesson learned). To top it off they are now trying to charge £600 pounds for next year, can you believe the gall, and say we have to pay it 'cus we didn't give them a 3 month cancellation notice for the coming year. Apparently, they keep this in the small print to rob small start-up businesses. In my personal opinion, they are not to be trusted, the marketing hype and the self praise (supposed independent review and awards).
Steer well clear of these snake oil salesmen...

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/04/2011

Started with the accounting version, but had to upgrade to Enterprise 5 to get support product bundles. The software is bloated with frequent crashes. The compulsory service contract is expensive and the quality of the support is poor. Support requests take 2 days for replies on average. There are few UK accountants supportng it, no books, no forums and poor manuals. Giving up with this program - pencil and paper quicker, easier and cheaper!

they almost never respond to my email
and make me pay about 160 ' for the reactivation of each domain
this problem happens for two years in a row in 2010 and now in 2011
and now are three days that I write to them but no one answers me
my domains still in redemptionperiod the damage is priceless
