I have been having bad experiences with vacuum cleaners. The Hoover DM4460 was my third buy within five years. I bought it on the recommendation of a close friend. Sadly, it turned out to be a big disappointment to say the least. (read more)

“I would not recommend the Hoover DM4460, after a...”

I would not recommend the Hoover DM4460, after a period of time the thermal cut out switch activates even if the cleaner is not full or dirty and it will not then work for about 20 minutes. The only way to stop it is to wash the dust container after each use, but this means the cleaner is out of action for about 24hours. The hose is supposed reach to the top of the stairs but with constant overstretching mine became detached. All these faults occured just a few weeks out of the 12month... (read more)

I couldn't agree more with this reviewer. My cleaner has been cutting out since I bought it. Curry's sent out an engineer who said it hadn't been maintained properly. As it had only been used about half a dozen times and the fiddly filter had been cleaned as per instructions, this was very annoying. He put in a new motor and it worked ok the next time it was used. But the next time, it cut out again. It needs to be left for 20 minutes before it can be used again. For a company which I always thought was a market leader with its name being generic with vaccuum cleaners, I am disgusted. It is not even a good design what with the fiddly filters, a front that isn't very stable. I hope to get my money back after I call out the engineer again and will not be replacing it with the same model not with a Hoover.

Since my last review, I have had a battle royal with the misnamed 'helpline' about this machine. I have had so much trouble with it, especially with the cyclonic filter which clogs up so quickly, it has to be cleaned after every use, not just when the cassette needs emptying as the instructions say. This is such a dirty job I wonder why 'bag less' models are supposed to be an improvement. Would be easier to empty a bag than go through all this trouble.
<br>However, persistence has paid off with the helpline in spite of a couple of extremely nasty and rude members of staff. Thank goodness for Melanie who was very pleasant throughout and even though I had to be really assertive and persistent, she finally agreed that they would exchange my Dust Manager for a new one. I've told her I wouldn't dream of having another DM as it is so badly designed and I now have my choice. It pays to be persistent - it makes my blood boil though the way the call centre manages their business!
