Unfortunately, a pretty dismal experience for us as first-time buyers. We had an offer accepted on a property in Apr 15, but did not complete until Nov 15. Whilst I must admit, some of this was due to poor communication between Santander and the Housing Assoc (the property was a repossession) the service from Connells was pretty terrible. The reasons are briefly outlined below. Knowledge and Continuity. At each point we raised queries or wanted to see the property, we ended up dealing with a different employee, who often knew no detail about the property at all. Picture a lot of 'I'll get back to you'; but without such. This meant we rarely got answers and most of the detail was shrouded in mystery right up until the contract was signed. High Pressure Tactics. As soon as the offer was accepted, we received several phone calls with the intent of booking us in for a meeting to sort out the 'next steps'. Unbeknownst to us at that time, this meant the usual surveys etc that are significantly cheaper to do by yourself. They made it unreasonably difficult to cancel once we had figured out what their services offered. In addition, once they heard of our intention to rent the property out following completion, they tried the same tactics to secure our business. This included sending a draft contract for the Letting Service, littered with inconsistencies with those terms which we had discussed face to face. Lack of Communication. The estate agents apparently made very little effort to make contact with the sellers and get answers to our questions. More often than not, our calls would not be returned and when we got through were often told that the person dealing with the property was not in. Unfortunately, this was a pretty frustrating experience. My sympathies to those that have to deal with them when buying, but where there is choice - properly review the alternatives! Now we have the property, we are renting it out and the Letting's Agent that we've chosen (Denny & Salmond) who have been several leagues above Connells.

After having great service from another branch. I was expecting the same from Wolverhampton. To be very disappointed. Poor excuses were made at every turn and very poor customer service from the Letting Manager. Unfortunately the other branch may now suffer because of Wolverhampton.

We purchased a new house through Connells Estate Agents and found their customer care right from the start to be poor. Despite the current state of the housing market and the fact that they had done very little for their commission we had to do all the running. They could not even be bothered to drop the key off on moving day despite their office being only a few minutes away - blaming 'holidays and things' despite the fact that they have only just returned from the Christmas and New Year holidays. We certainly will not be using them to sell our house.

I believe Connells are operating a con, particularly as other people have had the same experience as mine as per the intenet blogs, dating back to 2005 so Connells have had time to amend their practices.
They originally valued my property at £265000 and then found a buyer at £245000. I accepted this. He backed out, they then re-valued it (within a few weeks of it going on the market) at £249995, and I accepted a further offer of £245000. On negotiating the fee when i put my house in their hands I was quoted a fee of 1.75% which was favourable compared to another agent. Now I am settling their account, my solicitor informs me that I have to pay 1.75% of their original valuation of £265000, and not the price I got for it. All the way through I have acted on their advice as I considered that it is their field of expertise. Now i feel Conned by Connells
