Please see review dated 24th Sep 2009 for details of my experience with Connells, Kings Heath, Birmingham B14.
Connells' response to my first two letters of complaint was to selectively ignore some of the issues raised and I am now taking it to the Property Ombudsman. Connells informed me I had six months to take my complaint forward, but with the invoice unpaid they would take me to court should they "feel" I am not progressing the complaint sufficiently quickly. According to the Ombudsman office, if Connells do prosecute me for their withheld fee, then in any case this terminates the entire process - so it seems wrong for Connells to have told me I have six months while at the same time they may decided to prosecute me. I have emailed them to ask for clarification on this matter.
Connells effectively gave me a two week deadline to get my complaint in, to which I have objected. I think four weeks out of the potential six months is reasonable for an ordinary and busy working individual who they know will be away for one of those weeks anyway (for work). It would be nice if I had the advantage of the mass of bureaucratic resources that a national organisation like Connells has at its disposal!

If anyone out there has any bad experiences with Connells KINGS HEATH, BIRMINGHAM staff during 2008 and 2009, I would be pleased to hear from you at the following email address: connellscomplaints@yahoo.com
In terms of Connells KINGS HEATH, BIRMINGHAM branch, if you wish me to give your outline details of possible problems with KINGS HEATH staff as a supporting appendix to my own complaint, then I would be glad to do so.

I would totally agree with paulantony dont touch Connells with a barge pole. Signed up and was placed in the paper once. Then didnt hear a thing, I was calling them all the time to see what was happening, customer service was non existant. No viewings in 20 weeks and they still charged me when i ended the contract after all that time - how can that be right when they did nothing to try and sell my property and I was specifically told when I signed the contract this fee was only payable if you ...

Hello! Currently selling my property in Wolverhampton with Connells. It has been up for sale for just under three months now and has not had a single viewing. I seem to be pestering them constantly to actually see what they are going to do, I am paying them after all!

When an employee came to do the valuation, the estate agency seemed very professional and keen to sell my property and informed me that once it was up for sale there were many people who would want to view it. Did they get l ...

I am currently making an official complaint to Connells. I live abroad and am the Executor of my Mother's Estate and last year agreed reluctantly to a very high fixed fee for the peace of mind I was offered - being tempted by the special services given to clients living abroad, such as forwarding on mail, etc. (The property is in walking distance of Connells' offices.)The negotiator boasted of another client living abroad in Canada and said he understood the special needs of such clients. He see ...

In the 1st 6 weeks Connells have managed to arrange 4 viewings. None of them turned up dispite confirming only 2 hours before. Do these people excist or are they made up to look like they are doing their job. Also managed to advertise us as a 2 bedroom house (we are a 3 bed)for 1 week and changed our photos on internet without notice claiming the outside of our house could put people off! Other houses in our area are going so why cant we sell? Cos Connells are rubbish.

letter came today from Connells Estate Agents to pay up 172.50 VAT inc this was a withdrawal fee for coming out. I had been with them for year with having 3 viewings only. They were very keen and eager to take the property, but they never warned me that i would pay up this amount if i withdrew in the begining.

my freind warned me not to go with them, but chose to my a big mistake, which will never happen again. please be warned they never tell the truth.

We have had our house on the market with Connells in Basingstoke for almost 9 months. The agency have consistently turned up late to viewings and the house has appeared twice in the newspaper in the last 9 months. They promise the earth, charge the earth and don't perform. We are now removing our house from the market for now and will review the estate agents on offer before signing up with any one else. Also Connells charge you £150 + VAT if you want to leave them ,plus charge one of the ...

Very very poor service, we have now removed our home from the market. The Initial meeting with Connells Estate Agents was very warm and exited about selling our property. The Branch staff are so lack lustre it is unbelievable.

Find a decent independant or do it yourself.

I am trying to buy a house via Connells Estate Agents. They wont let me put an offer forward until I have sat down with them to review their mortgage packages. I cannot believe their audacity, they have tried to present this to me as protecting their vendor's interest by ensuring I have considered the appropriate funding options. There's me thinking they were estate agents!

We invited Connells Wednesbury into our home to value the property and were initially impressed. They offered everything we wanted (specifically floorplans, lots of photos, etc) and had a nice glossy brochure. Price quoted was £2500 which we thought was very expensive to sell a flat? Would not budge on the price or charge a percentage of the sale fee although this was an option on the contract? They are the most common around this area so we went with them. They took very shoddy phot ...

We sold our house with Connells but were very cheesed off when we had to drop our price four times before they sold our property (we accept that times are hard for property sales but dropping £40 thousand of the price is just stupid).

I recently contacted Connells to take them on as a multi agent to sell my house in West Bromwich. They measured up, took photos and agreed a fixed fee. Before the signing of the contract they said that if I was to sell with one of my other agents, I would be charged £150! This I was told was to claw back any costs in advertising my house!
Very disappointed with Connells. Lets hope the other agents do not follow suit. In these hard times it's the public who are losing out!

Very pressurized, don't feel like I am being looked after with the money I am paying them. I was informed that Connell will conduct the viewings not told I am to carry out my viewings. Be very careful of Connell ' s and double-check what they say to what they do.

Connells Torquay branch were fantastic when selling my house. They are friendly, honest and helpful and that's exactly what you want from your agent. They've also been with the co. for years and years and know the area inside out. No fly by nights that you get with some independent agents.

Putting my local Connells estate agents in charge of selling my house was a big mistake, on two occasions I requested that connells took some more photos of my house, I was told that they would ring me on thursday 24/4/08 but I'm still waiting. When I rang Connells I was told they would ring me on Tuesday 29/4/08 and I'm still waiting. Hopefully this will trun around and work out for the best.

We had the same experience as MagicDrShoon when arranging photos of the property in Central Essex. Very disappointing service, limited feedback - I don't think it was worth my while dealing with them! I definitely do not recommend this Estate Agent!
