Good Points: Nothing can be as frustrated as Western Union online money transfer.
Bad Points: Very bad service. Online money transfer is just an fraud activity to let your money used by Western union for 12 hours, without interest.

There are very rare successful cases with online money transfer using western union website.Today, I had to send money to India, my brother was in hospital and there was immediate money needed. I went to western union website and I tried to transfer $900 (all from my bank account). After submitting request I got message, I need to contact to customer care and they gave me one MTCN.I called to their customer care, the lady speaking was barely understanding what I was speaking. She took my identification information along with SSN.After talking with her for 30 mins, she told me they have denied the transaction. I asked the reason behind denial. She told me that they can not tell the reason, If I want to get the reason I would have to write to their review center.She suggested me to go to any western union agent and transfer the money.I was expecting money immediately back in my bank account, but there was nothing.Again I called to customer care, I got the reply saying it will take at least 12 hours.I had made transaction at 12:36 PM, and I got money back exactly at 12:36 AM. It means they have made the system which will use the customers money for 12 hours without reason. You would be knowing if they are getting millions of rupees for 12 hours, how much they will be making. Even I heard from others experience that if the currency rate is degrading then u will get refund without waiting for single minute.So, I came to the conclusion that Western union money transfer is nothing but a legal fraud center, which uses customers money for 12 hours, without giving any kind of service. Be aware of it. I ' ve found Moneygram is better option than Western union, which gives higher exchange rates and better service.

I had 2 bad experiences with Western Union - sending money from bucharest (I am in vacation here) to New York to my daughter.
1-first experience: a while ago she couldn't get cash to deposit in my bank - I had bills to pay tin the states - parent loans to citibank and other expenses - so my daughter received a check instead of cash - the check was clearead in one week by my bank (in New York) - and my payments were't made in time.

I have had the displeasure of having to use Western Union. With one of my vendors in Hong Kong. First of all the first time I tried to send money, I had spent time trying to make the payment over the internet and was then told to call to verify. Website did not work in my normal browser. Very expensive. You have to call anyway to confirm, so you might as well just call! Took three attempts to send US$18 which took 30 minutes and cost US$12. Website crashes when trying to track if money has been collected. I would urge people to use PayPal at much less cost and very little hassle and MORE safe.

I have successfully sent money to Russia and Belarus. I went to an agent, filled in the form and paid cash. Everything proceeded smoothly. I haven't tried their web or telephone service. To avoid disappointment, get the form in advance and make sure you fill in all the details correctly. However it is expensive, because of 1) high charges, 2) poor exchange rates. Honestly Western Union Money Transfer is the worst service, tried sending some money for a trip id booked to South America, they would not let the recipient collect the money because i had not included the middle name even though they had not asked me for it.
when i rang to enquire they said they could not change the name or make any alterations so they could refund my money but they would be keeping the £21.00 admin fee, which i would need to pay again to transfer the money.

I sent a Western Union transfer over the website. I started with signing up for my online profile and then went through the steps of sending to my friend. After spending numerous hours trying to make the USELESS WesternUnion.com work on different browsers, OS'es and even different computers, I gave up and called WU's useless phone system. Western Union Money Transfer is not appreciative of people who have been loyal to them despite all the other companies who now have the same product at less the fee. If you think that Western Union is a convenience for you and your loved ones whom you send money to - think again. I felt the same way, until the declined me for no valuable reason.

I wired money to the States with Western Union, and I was told by the agent that the receiver would need to bring ID to collect. It turns out they need more than ID. The FX rate means that you can lose up and over another 10 dollars on top of the 14.00 Sterling you have paid to send it.

I sold an item on a popular auction site. I do not take Western Union, but the buyer from Spain paid that way. So, I went to a Western Union locally in Ohio, but they had no Western Union Checks and refused service. The 2nd Place I went is a very popular national chain store, and they would not service me in writing a check or giving me the funds for the Western Union because they did not have the funds in the bank to do so. She just stood there and shook her head when I asked what she meant.

Why do Western Union bother to offer online money transfers? I am a US citizen and had gone through the whole setup to wire money to Italy, including the credit card approval. Then I had to call them to verify. But because I was not in the US at that moment, they would not approve the transfer. Where is the convenience? I will have to go to a local office where I am now travelling, and pay additional foreign transaction fee charges. I wonder if Western Union gets a cut of the foreign transactio ...

I needed cash from my bank account in the UK to be transferred to Boston USA within 24 hours. I was told the cash would be available in 15 minutes, which I was really pleased with, however when my friend went to the agent to collect the cash he was told that he could not get cash so a cheque was issued. The cheque was presented at the Bank in Boston and it took 7 days to clear. This cash was needed to catch an urgent flight home. I would not use them again.

The Western Union money transfer service doesn't work, and it is more expensive than anything else I've found. Moneygram is user friendly and more effective. Use them instead, and avoid the upsets.
