Almost impossible to open an account even if you want to. On receiving your 16 digit number you have ring and activate. After a week of ringing this 0800 number sometimes listening to their piped music for as long as one hour I finally got through only to be told that the system was down. Their customer services are well below par.
Despite attractive interest rates this bank is best avoided I think.

Citibank are in "free fall" - tried to open a saver account, received pin numbers and then the card in just over a week (so far so good).
Firstly one has to activate the card by telephoning Citibank; before speaking to a person one has to enter 16 digit card number and t-pin - first problem; these do not match! 40 minutes later I was able to speak to someone with very poor English language skills, that person could not solve the problem. 24 minutes later another person confirmed that both th ...- Read Guest's review (195 words)

Opened a savings account 2weeks ago and recieved a notice by email within a week confirming my account was ready to go but I had to wait for a savings card and pin numbers before I could activate account. All arrived before two weeks were up, so far so good. But... 0800 00 88 00 is number of no answer (this is also the number for new sales!) have called first thing 8 am no reply, lunch time no reply and in the evening. Last night I held on for 37 minutes no reply. This evening 15 and 17 minutes. ...- Read cherub1962's review (158 words)

Applied on line 27th September 2009 for Flexible Saver 6, and received acknowledgement by e mail same day, stating that they would send account no.and email logon details. Didn,t say when - still waiting 7 days later. Have emailed them - no reply, can't get through on phone either! Terrible service - suggest don't use 'em. I'm not going to!- Read Guest's review (59 words)

I am trying to open an account with Citibank, no answer on their phone line after 12 mins, and their internet contact page errors when attempting to send the comment back.
I would send them a letter, but based on my previous 2 methods of communications they would ignore it.
I am trying another bank, they lose £30ks worth of business.- Read Guest's review (60 words)

I wouldnt normally go to a forum - but I have had the worst experience of my life to date with these quite frankly rude, ignorant, and incopmpetent idiots at citibank.
If you dont have the right code - they just dont talk to you - even if you are online on the internet banking site and can answer security questions - no "T PIN" which is different from your PIN and "E-PIN" is no conversation at all.
They moved £40,000 of my money from an account to a new account they had set up (but did ...- Read Guest's review (216 words)

Would prefer a separate Euro Sterling and Dollar cards though one card for all has some advantages. I suppose one phone call to change it over every time I move countries is OK. I just worry about it not working or if I cannot get through on the phone. So I always have a backup, lest the system fails.- Read hideoushog's review (96 words)

I've held 3 savings accounts with Citibank in London and recently they locked all my accounts. I can still deposit funds but can't withdraw any. I went into the bank with ID and they require me to send a massive list of authentication documents to a postal address to "verify myself". I need my passport, 3 months bank statements from another bank which I used to bank with but now don't so this is impossible, a utility bill and a PAYE slip. As I'm self employed I don't have payslips... And I don't ...- Read Guest's review (132 words)

Don't choose this bank if you are expat in Japan because you speak English. It is better to refer to a Japanese bank. The service is extremely complicated, many passwords and passcodes (that are blocked occasionally at internet) and discriminating to the expat-spouse (you cannot take care of financial tasks in name of your working partner). Completely different from European service that we are used to.- Read Guest's review (111 words)

Citibank is a good bank with excellent access to your money from across the UK and Europe. Incredibly annoying to get through to as they have sooooo many security procedures. If you ever need to call make sure you have all your 'pin' numbers and 'codes' to hand!- Read sarrie83's review (51 words)

If you are someone that travels often on business or pleasure, if you are a heavy investor that needs to wire money readily 24/24 and fast, if you write a lot of drafts or cheques and need them certified, or if you simply need an all online bank, then CitiBank offers you THE best value for money I have seen to this day. They also have a chequing account that pays you back if you do not withdraw money (interest .50 percent I think, and - a few cents for every withdrawal from any ATM worldwide + h ...- Read redrebo's review (353 words)

I would definitely never suggest to any of my friends to use the Citibank credit card. I did schedule a bank payment earlier, but Citibank didn't draft it from my bank, and I found out myself and paid the next day, and they still charged me for a late payment, plus interest (almost half my due payment)!- Read vivimama's review (58 words)

Citibank held on to my money for 1 month and I had no access to it what so ever, so if you think you have an online or instant access account with Citibank, don't be so sure, as you might think it's your money, but really Citibank thinks it's theirs and they will not give you access to it. It took me 3 letters, many calls and 3 letters to the financial ombudsman before I even saw my money again.- Read rob davies's review (188 words)

If you are thinking of banking with Citibank, don't do it!
We have been banking with Citi for a while (5+ years), with business and personal accounts, credit cards, mortgage. I have to say I don't know why we are still banking with them. Maybe it is the inertia of staying with the same bank.
Here are some of our bad experiences:
- Opening a business checking account took a month with about an inch of paperwork. We have very good credit, so that's not the issue. It was simply the stodgine ...- Read fuzzyed's review (283 words and 1 comment)
