What can I say that you don't already know about Citibank? They took $300 billion in US taypayer money, and still cannot provide customer service. All I want to do it call my local branch office to ask a question. Citibank seems to think I need to provide my customer account to ask my question. After (almost) endless attempts to make me conform ("I'm sorry, I didn't get that) and auto-routing, I made it through to a customer "rep" WHO THEN TRANSFERRED ME TO ANOTHER AUTOMATED SYSTEM! ... Citibank UK is one of the worst companies to work for. The feedback that you give about your manager can be read by your manager with the employee id. The upraisal is minimal or no upraisal. Some of your seniors tell you that the other guy got a lead role coz she/he put down his paper. The have a system of cost effectiveness wherein they make a contractor a VP even though she/he deserves AVP. People with Hopes stay in the company that their designation would increase. Citibank is one of the worst bank that I have ever dealt with. When I was having a salary account with them they had accound monthly limit of 25000 and now when I have left the company they have increased this limit to 100000 per month. This is Insane. Bad on you guys. How can you do so when no other banks does so. Guys request you to not deal with these guys. (read more)

I have had to deal with Citibank both in the US and in the UK for transferring loans. It has been the worst, most frustrating experience I have ever had. Both branches took weeks to answer the simplest questions and, more importantly, set up actual accounts. I found that my paperwork was routinely lost, both in the US and in the UK. Also, only by my prompting and frequent visits did they finally open my account. It was detrimental that my account was open in a timely manner, which they... (read more)

I'll keep this short, as the catalogue of errors and crimes is long. Do not bank with Citibank. They will debit your account for no reason, stop sending you correspondence, provide next to no customer service and then charge you $50 a month for the privilege. Time-wasters. (read more)

I've been trying to open an account for about 4 weeks now, after I apply online they sent me a letter asking for me ti sign and return it, they did not ask for any document. After 2 weeks without answer I called and the lady told me to send a certified copy of my passport and an utility bill, I've been to my bank natwest and the person in the desk did not know what I was talking about so he did not certify my photocopy. A lawyer will charge me £80 to do it. Waste of time. Is like asking a... (read more)

Terrible customer services. Whatever you do don't open an citi account. I held a account for almost 10 years and had to deal with consistently terrible customer service for most of those 10 years. The call centre in India is staffed by nice people. The terrible customer service is not their fault, it's Citibank management that has structured a terrible operating / customer service model.
I tried the gold card service in London in the hope a relationship manager in this country would...

My husband is overseas in a combat zone. Literally minutes after he phoned me saying he'd just made his reservation home, I got an automated phone call from Citibank saying they suspected "fraud" on his account. It asked me to confirm whether charges were valid or not. Not able to tell what the charges were for (the descriptions were totally unhelpful), I kept punching the number for more info. Nothing on the menu seemed to route me to real person, so I finally hung up. Only it wouldn't... (read more)

I hold three UK "savings" accounts with Citibank - Euro, Dollar and Sterling. Okay, "savings" is a bit generous because their interest rates are not but for my purposes it is a very convenient and so far trouble-free relationship. I can trade between currencies online at some of the most competitive rates for personal use - usually a couple of points off the market rate (unlike other banks which hit you for at least six, sometimes ten). They gave me one Citibank card for machine use - and... (read more)

Worst bank ever to deal with. Never ever get into any kind of relationship with these guys. They are professional cheats.
They talk you into something and wash their hands of their commitments in a whisker.
If you happen to come across any relationship manager of citibank - just shoot him right at his head before he even starts talking about investments or any banking stuff.

Nightmare! Worst experience I've ever had with a bank. Was recommended to open a stocks and shares ISA through Egg and was taken to their parent company Citi. Try cashing it in several years later and it was disasterous - staff in India don't understand what an ISA is - kept asking for a 16 digit card number which I don't have as this is not one of their savings accounts. Asked to speak to supervisor but told he was too busy with other complaints! Asked several times over a number of calls... (read more)

I had NRI account with Citibank as my Father had a similar account but I must say we both are dreading this decision. They have a horrible customer service where no one really knows what needs to be done- each person has a different advice to give on the same matter.
I finally closed the account this year but still waiting for the balance to be transferred to my account. I would NOT recommend this bank to anyone.

Having had a credit card with CITI for some years, their customer service via the telephone is somewhat poor. Normally I'm on hold for over 10 minutes just to speak to someone. More often, only to be told by the India call centre to call back later, as they are "Having Techicial Problems".
Their interest rates and charges for credit cards are often far higher than other lenders.
My advice, stay well clear of this bank and find someone who is committed to customer service not profit.

The most appalling telephone service I have ever encountered, and I have encountered bad telephone service in the past.
I opened a flexible saver account with Citibank, only to discover a month later that I didn't need the account. Having never used it, I wanted to request account closure (I don't want an unused open account in my name).
I spent 1 hour 15 minutes on the phone (thankfully, an 0800 number) and, at the end of the call, I was back to square one.
In summary, I had to...

Almost impossible to open an account even if you want to. On receiving your 16 digit number you have ring and activate. After a week of ringing this 0800 number sometimes listening to their piped music for as long as one hour I finally got through only to be told that the system was down. Their customer services are well below par.
Despite attractive interest rates this bank is best avoided I think.

Citibank are in "free fall" - tried to open a saver account, received pin numbers and then the card in just over a week (so far so good).
Firstly one has to activate the card by telephoning Citibank; before speaking to a person one has to enter 16 digit card number and t-pin - first problem; these do not match! 40 minutes later I was able to speak to someone with very poor English language skills, that person could not solve the problem. 24 minutes later another person confirmed that...

If you are thinking of banking with Citibank, don't do it!
We have been banking with Citi for a while (5+ years), with business and personal accounts, credit cards, mortgage. I have to say I don't know why we are still banking with them. Maybe it is the inertia of staying with the same bank.
Here are some of our bad experiences:
- Opening a business checking account took a month with about an inch of paperwork. We have very good credit, so that's not the issue. It was simply the...

Citibank India sent offers to open an Rupee Checking Account that could be used as an instrument to pay for expenses in India for your family. They required $500 to open the account and no minimum balance. They normally require $1000 to start an account and $1000 minimum balance to avoid banking fees. Citibank representatives called 3 times a day and sent numerous emails to open an account.
I opened the account in 2004 and I have not done any other transactions. It took them almost a month to open an account. In May 2005, I get a statement with a reduction of approximately $50.00. I called customer service and got a very poor response. They said they would check my application and get back in 2 weeks. For all my requests to talk to a manager, I have not been able to talk to one.
After 2 weeks, I called and they said that they could not do anything about it. The offer expired and there is nothing that they can do about this. My question is if the offer expired,
1. Why did you open an account with $500 instead of the required minimum of $1000? If the offer expired, how is it possible to open with an offer amount?
2. Why are you still advertising online with the same advertisement? Trying to trick people into believing that they are getting good service.
I do not know how to go about with this. I am just a poor man who has been cheated by a large multinational company. I have called repeatedly and requested to speak with a manager or to at least send back the reminder of my money but have not got a decent response. Someone please help.

I completely agree with all above statements. CitiBank (AE) is appalling. I just called bc my Debit Card never showed up and they asked me to verify who I was with my passport number. They had no record of this number - I changed my passport 3 years ago and now suddenly they are saying I never updated the system!! How is this possible? If they cant keep track of my passport number what are they doing with my money????
Gravely concerned.
