Good Points: There are very few hobby shops in the area.
Bad Points: This hobby shop takes advantage of the fact that, there's very few shops in the vicinity of Illinois. Some of the staff are unhelpful. Lots of the items are marked up in price something furious, example 40 series moab tires - 27$ online, 45$ at Al's. Ordering parts can take a month, and they don't call you to let you know it will take a while. Repairs take forever. I was billed for 2 hours of work after waiting 3 whole weeks to get my vehicle back. Their return policy is very unclear, and is not stated anywhere in plain sight/receipts. So if you have a problem, you have to come back on a day/time that the manager is working.
General comments: I would not suggest going to Al's Hobby Shop unless you've already called in advance and you know for a fact that they have what you require to get your vehicle working again. Parts ordered through the shop can take 1 - 4 weeks and, ordering online takes a few days at the most, and is far cheaper.
The advice you will get from the store is brand specific to what they carry, and they don't tell you about better parts if they don't sell it.
Very over priced merchandise. The store is great for buying things like fuel, or little things.
