“Not enough advisory”

★★★☆☆

written by VeraLinsdell on 18/03/2022

I wish there was more walk through of the dimensions and accommodation of the shelving units per our needs rather than us sticking to standards that Sharp can provide with. I was hoping for more flexibility and design advice than we received.

“Great product but disappointed with the service.”

★★★☆☆

written by Harvington on 06/03/2022

My parents both in the 80s recently had wardrobes fitted in two bedrooms of their new house. The product is superb, but very disappointingly the fitters just pulled back the carpet and left it, my Father had to make safe the carpet so they could go to bed, and has had to book a carpet fitter to come and refit the carpet. He was then left with all the rubbish for which he was sent a link by which he could arrange for its collection which I had to do. The collection services was superb, but why could the fitter not of done that and simply asked what day was convenient for the collection. It was that simple, but not for someone in their 80s. Like I say we are very pleased with the product, but the overall experience should have been so much better, especially when you take into consideration the price. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be able to expect a full service.

“Lovely finish but countless issues- guarantee beware”

★★★☆☆

written by Mystify88 on 13/04/2021

I love my Sharps fitted cupboards. The fitter was excellent and very skilled. Happy with finished product. The journey to get there was plagued with discrepancies. The quote by the salesperson and what you actually get was unclear. It was only after complaining that I got backs added to the cupboards. I had a desk installed with drawers. Five years on, the drawer runners were falling off so I contacted Sharps to honour the guarantee. Was told 1) the range of cupboard door was discontinued and 2) guarantee did not cover normal wear and tear They suggested I employ a carpenter to fix their drawers. Not impressed

“Poor customer service”

★★★☆☆

written by Dakotaj466 on 21/10/2016

After recently using Sharps for what we believed would be an all round quality service we were left with mixed feelings. The designer and fitter were excellent and the quality of the furniture is good, however, when we told Sharps we weren't happy with mistakes made during the fitting they were less than forthcoming. A piano stool was missed off the order and isn't due to arrive until 10 days after fitting was complete. The fitter left several marks, scrapes and dents in the walls which will require re-decorating, and the waste which was supposed to be taken away is still sitting on our drive a week after installation. Sharps customer services basically refused to acknowledge that any of the problems were their responsibility and were quite dismissive of our claims for some kind of financial compensation. They have eventually offered to refund us £60 towards decorating materials as what they term as a good will gesture but this falls well short of our expectations from what is supposed to be a high end company. If they want to charge high end then their service should match that, but it hasn't.

“slow to put things right”

★★★☆☆

written by 123Crouch on 05/06/2016

After spending nearly £6000.on wardrobes the delivery men damaged the banister when carrying the pats upstairs, I am still waiting, four months later, for a reply and to know when they will put things right. Very bad customer service. They want money soon enough.

“Bedroom good but design stage needs improvement”

★★★☆☆

written by Grenfell on 26/09/2014

Despite being a surveyor myself, I found it very difficult to understand the design being recommended and my own ideas were being argued against. Subsequently the very helpful fitter helped to incorporate the changes which were simply positioning. There was an internal dispute about part of the design which was unhelpful and delayed the job despite signing up on Day 1. The plans provided were a sketch; it would have helped the electrician if accurate measurements had been provided. Overall, it would have been better if the design could have been carried out on Autocad to get a more precise 3D picture (with measurements added for the final version. At each stage we had to sign straight away our approval eg on design, delivery of materials (area reserved by Sharps Surveyor not big enough + we subsequently discovered damage to decorations (just a coat of paint on stairs wall to correct) and immediately after fitter finished (very helpful and reasonable work but there are still minor corrections needed). It seems that Sharps are more keen to cover themselves legally than genuinely wanting customer satisfaction.

“Brilliant product not the best service”

★★★☆☆

written by RicardoO'Reilly68 on 25/09/2014

We bought fitted wardrobes for our bedroom - very pleased with the end product with the exception of a fitted headboard which was not as described in terms of the finish. They did however give a refund after some aggro! Service in the home wasn't the best as we were misled on the finance deal - make sure you haggle lots and don't believe everything you are told!

“Better than flat pack?”

★★★☆☆

written by Smile_louise56 on 11/09/2014

Although I really like the look of our wardrobes I definitely feel we were given the hard sell initially about quality etc but it did not live up to our expectations. For the price we paid I would expect attention to detail, i.e, soft closings on the doors so they do not bang shut, the protection strips to be removed off the glass, holes not to be on show, and stickers to be removed. I would expect the wardrobe to be carefully cut round the skirting board as we were promised... Not having a chunk cut out and then caulked in to make it fit! The top storage space is impractical as it is too small, the top hanging rail is too high and if it was an inch lower it could have solved the problems both with height and storage. No common sense applied!! I feel the initial designer does not actually use realistic designs and designs what you want but does not apply it to your room. Yes it looks better than flat pack furniture but that would have cost a fraction of the price. Would I recommend to a friend..... Honest answer, if you are not a perfectionist and have money to throw away, yes. Otherwise I feel you may be disappointed. Louise Dibble

“Brilliant Workers; Poor Service”

★★★☆☆

written by on 05/09/2014

No problem at all with workmen, salesman and surveyor who came. Finished product is great. BUT . . . be aware you will have to remove all carpets and furniture from the room before delivery. If you have a normal sized room the components will fill the room, so it becomes unusable. In our case fitting was a week later, so son had to sleep in a recliner for a week. Afterwards you will need to refit the carpet around the new fitted furniture - Sharps will not do it. The fitters said that 'someone' would be along to collect all the packaging, etc., but we still have it outside the house a week later, so I guess it's down the tip now. In summary, great product and fitting, very poor 'service'. With this in mind, I would say it's expensive as you have to deal with all the preparation and finishing yourself.

“Not what I expected”

★★★☆☆

written by Granthamhr14 on 09/07/2014

I arranged an appointment as had seen advertised in newspapers that there was 70% discount but prices extremely misleading and don't know how arrive at their final price as salesman very vague about it and just comes up with a final figure which is only around 30% off. Due to time constraints on my part, I went ahead with it anyway. Fitter showed up but noticed half way through the job it wasn't layout I had specified I wanted at sales visit. Fitter was very professional and in all fairness to,him, he did stay I had option of not proceeding. However, on closer examination of the drawings, I did see the fitter was only following instructions from surveyor so I was partially at fault for not picking up on this. It was my first purchase following death of my husband so did not think to,check the drawings. Due to leaving the country the following day, I did go ahead with the wardrobes getting fitted in accordance to the surveyors specifications. Despite the layout not quite as I expected, the fitter did a very professional job.

“sharp wardrobes review -recommend ”

★★★☆☆

written by myVargas3 on 18/06/2014

We had a very good sale person who came and explained about the wardrobes with pictures and gave the impression that the wardrobe we were ordering would have huge amounts of space we only had 2 choice of colours and made a choice on that day.but in hindsight shoud have looked at other providers as colour matching not to our satisfaction but we were naive agreeing on the first meeting for a deal.especially it sways when they offer a few quid off if you order today I would recommend a friend to use sharp but NOT to agree on any deal at first meeting unless they have a look at atleast a few other suppliers

“Great furniture, bad customer service”

★★★☆☆

written by NeilCoulter on 30/04/2014

The initial meeting with the designer was good, although we felt he was a little pushy for a commitment there and then. The surveyor took lots of time over measurements but in the end it turned out some of these were wrong, so not sure we can say that was a great outcome. We had some problems with the date we had agreed on as due to a "clerical error" Sharps had a different date for fitting than we were expecting, after some wrangling and an email to the MD (which was never answered directly) this was eventually sorted out. The fitter we had was brilliant, came up with solutions with problems that arose, all due to some wrong measurements by the surveyor. He was very professional and obviously a very talented joiner. We can't praise him enough. We are very pleased with the end product. However our main issue has always been with customer services. Every phone call to them results in being passed around 3 or 4 different people before finally speaking to the correct person and even then we have found them unhelpful and sometimes even argumentative and my favourite was being told that they would look into my query and then having to listen to rustling paper the person having not even asked for our name or account number, before he finally decided he was ready to deal with our problem. Some serious customer service training needs to be undertaken by everyone from the initial reception to the customer service personnel. It is for this reason that we would never recommend Sharps as wouldn't want to put friends through the same ordeal. You are after all spending a considerable amount of money and we definitely expected more from them.

“My Experience”

★★★☆☆

written by Perry2013 on 10/12/2013

Salesman very good. Had not expected such a poor installation, which was beyond fitter's ability. Area manager visited and was competent in assessing the problem. New items ordered and new fitting date arranged. Finished product was not what we contracted for. Unfortunately we had already ordered fitments for a second bedroom, and this proceeded to our satisfaction. Office staff were always helpful but we fell between new business and after sales on the first installation.

“Nothing special”

★★★☆☆

written by on 21/11/2013

I had two bedrooms fitted with Sharps and must say not all that impressed. On a positive side: Designer was thorough and drafts where exactly what we were after. Surveyor then spent hours confirming it will work by measuring everything thouroughly. The delivery was promt and on time, no major damage to the stuff, but that's outsourced to a delivery company anyway, so not much to do with sharps. The range of styles and quality are good too. Negatives: Fitter turn up ans found out that it was two rooms on the day, had to be another fitter for the other bedroom. MESS that's left is unbelievable- all the cutting is done inside your bedroom and fitters do not care about keeping it tidy, if you have carpet floors, cover it all yourself with a thick dustsheet as they won't bother doing that. When they're done, all the walls and all the fitted furniture is then covered with thick layer of fine sawdust, so get ready for some serious cleaning! I would suggest taking all the drawers out of the fitted units too when they're done - you'll be surprised how much mess is underneath. Mine was a drawer unit inside the wardrobe and had a lot of sawdust behind, fitter should have hoovered that or wiped before putting the drawers in, maybe some do but mine clearly couldn't care less! All in all would seriously reconsider using this company again in the future.

“Bedroom at a cost”

★★★☆☆

written by on 19/09/2013

The 4th time I've used Sharps, so pleased with the product overall, but sadly it would seem that customer services are not as good as they used to be. Furniture not delivered when requested, which caused problems. Fitter was brilliant and made up for the poor service. Seem to have got very expensive since the last wardrobes were fitted 3 years ago, so in future may have to shop around, a shame really.

“No price labels attached!”

★★★☆☆

written by DavidBirkland on 24/04/2013

Had to negotiate hard to get to an acceptable price around half of the salesmans opening salvo. I dislike buying without a price label so this has previously put me off dealing with this kind of company. Purchased for one room to test before considering others. Overall I am pleased with the service and installation. Nothing special and no disasters. Price paid was eventually fair and the workmanship is good. Workmans sticky finger marks left on glass and no after sales contact. Therefore have decided to explore other suppliers for additional requirements

“lots of hassle with customer service and rubbish...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 25/03/2013

Sharps Review March 2013 The whole sharp’s experience has been poor. Firstly the delivery date for the product got changed at the last minute and then they gave me another person’s delivery. The installation was good and the product is fantastic however when it came to the rubbish collection it was an utter disaster. I arranged collection on a specific date and no-one came and after hassling them for over two weeks they finally came. This was not the end as when I checked the next day only half of it had been collected. When I rang them up again they said they would send another person to collect the rest. This was not the case and after being sent letters from the council and another two weeks of hassling they said that it was household waste that was left and that I had to throw it away myself. The rubbish was plastic sheets from the installment and white boxes which contained the shoe rack which they said that wasn't their product as they only use brown boxes and tried to charge us £50 to clear the rubbish. Eventually I had given up and cleared the rubbish myself. Overall the product is nice but expensive and the service was appalling. I don't think I can recommend to my friends as they don't deserve the hassle

“Bed Room Furniture”

★★★☆☆

written by SK114 on 07/10/2012

Overall happy with the quality and look of the bedroom. However, had trouble with the designers and had to have them in multiple times to get it right. Even then, the last designer miscalculated the depth of one area of the cupboard which created huge problems. The fitter was amazing though and it is all due to him that the bedroom turned out the way we wanted it. He worked around the clock and put in the extra effort. Customer service was good and they did listen/address my concerns.

“Disappointing......”

★★★☆☆

written by caroltucknott on 05/10/2012

This was an expensive fitted bedroom and did not meet our expectations. The dressing table area was very amateur and did not look at all like the plans drawn.Ther mirror was too small and the shelves were cheap MDF. The coving on the wardrobes could not be fitted as the measurements had been incorrectly taken. They did try to put things right but in the end it cost us more money to swap mirrors for something acceptable and we did not have any shelves at all. Very disappointing!!!

You pay a deposit Then a good part of it as thet deliver the parts. Leaving 10% as a final payment. That said Sharps would be the LAST company i would us. !!! If you have any problem with the final fitting just dont want to know.

Yes,we did.20%. The total cost of your order is usually divided into 3 payments:deposit ( 20%),payment at delivery of materials (70%) and fitting cost (10%).

You need to be specific about where the wardrobe is located. It may not be a problem specific to Sharps. Any wardrobe located on an outside wall is susceptible to condensation and damp especially in the autumn and winter but your supplier should have brought this to your attention. Also it depends if you have had cavity wall insulation installed (if the wardrobe is on an external wall) as that may have some bearing.
Report this content DavidBirkland Written on: 30/12/2014
Condensation is created when warm moist air comes on contact with a colder surface. The introduction of fitted wardrobes will have no bearing on this unless it has introduced air moisture (cannot see how), reduced the room/wall temperature (covered or removal of radiator, or on an outside wall which has no or poor insulation as the reduced air flow within the wardrobe can 'draw through' the moisture giving a damp effect or even mould. Obviously the solution is to restore the status quo by increasing heat or airflow. It may also help by placing a moisture catcher box available from most DIY stores.
Report this content drudge Written on: 30/12/2014
Agedman. Yes is an outside wall. And no Sharps did not mention this at all. Trying to resolve the matter with them all i get is " a lifestyle issue". I have put a heat source inside the wardrobe as Sharps suggested to no avail. Still the same . My problem is Sharps will not even discuss the problem all you get is you signed off. The problem clearly only came to light as the wardrobes started to get used.
