Good Points: Get Lifted is original, groundbreaking, and so damn soulful.
Bad Points: Some tracks such as "I can change" can do with out snoop dogg's reformed pimp banter.
General comments: John Legend, Get Lifted Review
When John Legend first stepped onto the mainstream hip hop scene, when he featured on "selfish" by Slum Village. I was immediately drawn to his harmonous singing of the hook. I knew it was a sign of great, dare I say "legendary" things to come. Thats why when his debut mainstream LP first hit store shelves I snagged a copy. I was expecting greatness, but I was prepared for mediocrity. After listening to the album in its entirety I should have prepared for the latter.
John Legend reveals a soulful, innovative and thought invoking approach to R&B. All in all an excellent debut worthy of a few grammy nods.
John Legend gets a very soulful 9.5 from me.
