Good Points: A great machine that is so user friendly.

Bad Points: Clunky name input; Can't split a recording.

General comments: Great Operating System ... great quality.
The only 2 things I would say are:
. naming titles is a bit clunky & time consuming
. You cannot split titles ... this has 2 ramifications:
1: this relates to the 2 hour limit at standard quality :transferring a recording - say a 3 hour film - of more than 2 hours to a DVD at 'standard quality' (i.e. excellent) needs to be planned for or you will have to compromise quality e.g. plan this timer recording as 2 separate ones ... i.e. record the first 2 hours then the last hour. It means the film is in 2 'titles' but you can then put the best quality onto two 2 cheap DVD-R's ... otherwise if you had a 3 hour recording you would have to COMPRESS it to get it on a 2 hour disk.
2: You cannot split e.g. two 30 minute titles up to dub them to separate DVD's ... once again if you know about it it's not a problem. Just make sure you plan recordings with this in mind.
I guess double layer DVD recorders will address some of this... meanwhile I recommend this as a great machine.

Overall the Sony RDR HX1000 is a brilliant piece of kit. Tranferring Camcorder DV onto DVD is a doddle with perfect quality and no errors....ever. HQ+ setting is the best TV recording quality I have ever seen let alone used. HDD editing is limited but simple to use. If the recording is too big to transfer to DVD you cannot split the recording, it has to be downgraded which defeats the quality benefits you had. The other alternative is to cut out sections that you would otherwise want to keep. St ...
