I find the interest in smart children account is very poor Nationwide should encourage children to invest,But nationwide do not wish so and have lost it I have three children invested in Nationwide Smart and it is being redrawn and invested in something better.

I've been with Nationwide Smart Children's Saving Account far too long to own up to & have always been impressed by their service - but my daughter received notification of interest rate change today ... bad news

Quick get your money out of the Nationwide - interest rates on every account starts with 0.! The childrens saver in particular which my son has held for 10 years has dropped from 5% to 0.75.. you dont have to look far for a much better rate. Very sneaky of the Nationwide - also take note Dunfermline BS customers!

Queues most of the time. I have requested for a new passbook that can be used on their ATM in-branch machine or other ways of access on several occassions but no straight forwad anwer given.

Both my children have held Nationwide kids accounts since they were born....I have always been happy with the service although I do agree with the first reviewer that if you go into the branch at a busy time you must be prepared to queue! My local branch only has 2 desks so if you get a difficult customer then you can be half an hour or more waiting - not good with 2 small children! The staff are friendly and efficient though and I have no hesitation in recommending the Nationwide.

Nationwide do generally have a reasonable rate of interest on their Smart Children's Saving Account, although with a bit of shopping around these can be bettered.

But don't go into a Nationwide branch if you haven't got much time. For the second week running our city branch has had queues out of the door. I waited 25 minutes in the queue, and during that time they closed 1 of the 3 cashier windows - even though they still had queues out of the door. When we questioned why we were told that ...

Despite their claim on television to offer everyone the same good rate on their savings account; the history is different. We have had accounts in the past in our son's name only, to find that they had been "parked" giving a 0.5% interest rate. Nationwide do not tell you when this happens, and when you complain you get know where.

Phone Nationwide before if you are not a Nationwide user, to check what identity you need to open a Smart Children's Saving Account. I was very happy with Nationwide, and I was only in there for about 10 minutes.
