“What a wash out”

★☆☆☆☆

written by twinsdadandmum on 07/01/2013

I booked to take my family of four to Drayton Manor Theme Aprk it was at the end of November 2012. It had rained consistenly for a week so I call ed the day before to check everything was open and I was told it was. We arrived the Themem Park at 12am the next day to find that the whole place was shut due to flooding. I complained andwas told that we would get a refund on our tickets. I was told that every attempt was made to contact me to tell me it was shut due to this reason. I explained that they had not called me or emailed me. The only forms of communication we had used, and they said they had put it on Twiter and Facebook, somehow it was my responsibility to join these mediums and check for updates. Who knows if it is any good, we never got in!

written by on 22/08/2012

never again!!!!! no signs to how long queing would be, que'd for an average of an hour for each ride. ignorant people trying to push in front! 80% of the staff were only teenagers. so busy that there was no where to sit to have lunch. everything was overpriced. my kids told me they'd rather stick to going to gullivers kingdom in future. as it rained most of the afternoon and i booked my tickets online, i was entitled to the "rainy day guarnetee return ticket" i wouldnt go back even with the free tickets!!!! complete waste of time and money.

“Rip off”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Isobelle12 on 28/06/2012

Took my 4 year old for day out as out of school hols so quiet which was about the only, good thing I can think of if had been busy would have just gone home . Overpriced I think if I had payed £5 for 2 adults and child free would still not have been worth the money .The place is run down and tacky dreadful and having read some of the positive reviews I do wonder it they actual went to the same place as we did. The only thing we brought in the park was a coffee which tasted like dishwater this put us off trying the food which looked as grim as the park. I would never return and strongly recommend that you don't it is complete waste of money,I cannot believe the owners have gone and spent money on building hotel when they should have spent money on the park as needs complete overall in fact writing this I got quite angry that I did not ask for my money back .

“Rip off hotel / joke of a theme park”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Stan1933 on 22/04/2012

we paid £265.00 for one night for two adults and one child (15), the staff were mostly kids and had no customer care whatsoever, the evening meal was included but was topped by another £28.00 because we wanted a steak, the theme park itself took all of 2 hours to complete and that was with a visit to the zoo area, these poor animals at best looked ready to die of boredom, this is one of the worst theme parks we have ever visited and if you want poor food and extremely rude incompetent staff this is the place......Keep away from this rip off hotel / joke of a theme park.

“I Worked at the hotel...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/02/2012

After working at the hotel for 3 months, i can safley say that i would NOT visit there. The mangement are ignorant, the staff do not have a clue what they are doing (especially in the resteraunt) and the staff are stroppy teenagers who are just working for the money rather than the customer service standard. The health risks that go on in the kitchen (Hotel and park) are just rediculess. the propper health and saftey guidlines do not meet standards unless the health visitor is coming for a check. All they want is money. The very few staff that work there to please the customers are ignored within the staff. If they come up with solutions to improove they are ignored and sometimes taken advantage of (Speaking from personal expiriance). The things that staff tell you on the phone is rubbish. i would not trust anything they say on the phone unless you have confirmed it with other sources they will do anything to make you book a room. When i used the hotel for a personal experiance, i was shocked. The room that i stayed in was in construction. I had to book out of the room to then go back into it at a later time to which there was still tools and construction sheets in the room. Being an employee i took these things down to reception. After spending a few hours in the room i went down for dinner. We went to the brasserie which was suppost to be aimed for adults, to which sitting next to a family with screaming children i then learnt that this was also just a selling ploy. The food was alright. was dissapointed when things such as the cheese board came out with mouldy grapes on it. Breakfast was cold and tastless. Even though i worked there, i would not recommend it for anyone. The managment are happy if they have money in their pockets NOTHING ELSE. Waste of time and money.

“Thomasland Birthday Parties”

★☆☆☆☆

written by katrinagoodfellow on 22/06/2011

I recently took my son (3) & 11 friends to a Thomasland birthday party it was terrible from the start. There is no designated party meeting place, instead all of us milled around the entrance gates getting in the way of other patrons. The party staff were rude and didn't interact with the children. When u book a party you are allowed to pick 1 ride that you queue jump this never happen. We were told to leave 1 queue as it was considered to long, even though we would of been next on. The party room set aside for parties leads out on to the balcony the fat controller and others use for their song, they completely ignored the children, hence leaving them rather upset. I also paid for a birthday cake which didn't turn up, when I asked the staff were the cake was I was informed the schedule didn't show one so I couldn't have one. When I advised I had booked and paid for said cake the staff became snappy. I checked the bill once home and I had indeed paid for the cake. Anyone considering booking a party at Thomasland I would strongly advise against it. The park its self is great but the parties are awful. Take your children there as a normal day out, it will be better and longer than having a party.

“shocking safety, poor customer care, staff are incompitant”

written by on 15/06/2011

upon visting the park at a massive cost of £28pp we were bewildered at the cost but with our spirits high we were all set to enjoy the day. we visited the shockwave rollercoaster but when we were seated in the ride we were greeted with rude staff who then seated us without proper safety checks and sent us on our way with my girlfriends arm trapped above her head and left dangling by her crotch which has then resulted us persuing a injury claim against the park itself! disgusting treament and staff you wouldnt put incharge of picking up your pets mess!!! totaly shocking and terrible value!

“having visited alton towers two days before, we were...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/10/2010

having visited alton towers two days before, we were looking forward to trying out DM. big disappointment. our group consisted of 3 adults and 2 kids (kids are 6 and 8).
for the adults, there are 2 coasters worth mentioning. we decided not to try either due to safety issues with the smaller rides we went on first-the safety checks seemed to consist of lowering empty harnesses rather than checking the ones being used were actually able to hold riders in place. when riding with small kids i found myself holding the kids in place rather than trusting the unchecked harnesses.
so, after potentially paying £28 entry (thank god we had vouchers) we actually spent the majority of the day in Thomas Land. for kids under 10, this is fabulous. the rides are well thought out, a lot newer than some of the bigger rides in the park, and less rickety (buffalo coaster rattles way too much for something that allows babies to ride on parents knee).
our day was enjoyable as we visited when schools were in, so there were no queues. had i paid full price to visit on a busy day i'd demand my money back.
if you are visiting this area with under 10's then stick to Thomas Land. if your group has more adults, then travel the extra hour and stick to ALton TOwers.

“Took my son to Thomas land. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 10/08/2010

Took my son to Thomas land.

1. Price is totally ridiculous for two adults and a 4 year old - £60
2. Queues for the rides were very long. Queued for the Thomas and Percy ride, over an hour then we had to get off two minutes later. Then queue again for the return trip. Shocking lack of information.
3. Thomas land is cramped, very little seating.
4. The Zoo in parts is woeful wrong signage and some of the animals looked less than 'happy'
5. Not convinced by conservation objectives of the zoo, little information.

Overall very disappointed would not recommend Drayton Manor to anyone.

Excellent review! How dare any other equally-entitled paying guests share your 280 acre land space? Anyone would think it was a theme park....

“If you appreciate a tidy, well crafted and well themed...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 11/04/2010

If you appreciate a tidy, well crafted and well themed park this is definately not for you. I was drawn to the park by the TV advert and the focus on the only standup rollercoaster in the UK yet in actual fact the ride is tired, ill maintained and is a rickety old ride that gives you a headache- not a spot on the kind of quality coaster that you get from such parks as Alton Towers, which is the kind of thing I expected. Most que areas were full of grafiti and 1000's of pieces of chewing gum! Staff were constantly talking to friends and did not give off the 'happy to help' feel I expect as a paying customer. We also wanted to get an icecream in the afternoon but ended up waiting for 35 mins- longer than some of the attractions. Unless you live nearby, I wouldnt waste the petrol- drive further, pay a little more and get something of quality. Yes the ques at parks like Alton Towers and Thorpe park are longer but at least the rides are worth the wait! Overall an incompitent poorly managed workforce with a no can do attitude, a dirty park with lots of grafiti, litter and chewing gum, and a load of substandard rides with awful theming and sometimes a feeling of being unsafe. Of course you need to make your own judgement, but if you do please make sure you get a voucher to soften the blow!

WASTE OF TIME!!! The food was horrible so i really think you shold take your own. The staff looked like something from a halloween party with peircings all over their face and they were very very rude! When you need somwething they just ignor you and carry on talking to their friends and if you show that your getting impatient they give you a horrible look talk away and still ignor you for even longer. The rides are still good though haha x

“I am currently at university and worked at drayton...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/10/2009

I am currently at university and worked at drayton manor in the summer. I've read a lot of reviews stating that the staff are miserable... that is completely true and the reason is that the pay is terrible and the managers and owners have no morals and one aim, making money. Several people quit within weeks of starting to work there because every place in the park is expected to run on minimum staff constantly, and as people got fed up of this situation, they left making the situation worse. I've known people have to queue up well over 45 minutes just to get food. As long as they make enough money customer satisfaction is irrelevant. The ticket prices are awful, with many other places offering deals such as West Midlands Safari park where if you visit once you can visit again for free I think. The food is ridiculously over priced and anyone who is willing to pay a MINIMUM of £9.75 for a pizza I think is a complete idiot. Also the amount of people who came in to where I worked who looked completely fed up was really bad. I have never been since I worked there because I do not believe the Bryans (who own the park) deserve a single penny from anyone.

After watching the TV advert and checking the Drayton Manor Theme Park and Zoo website this place looked fantastic unfortunately we were let down by a number of things: the staff are not very friendly and dressed badly (untidy)and miserable, the food outlets are a waste of time (take your own), the whole place needs a lick of paint and worse still some of the rides weren.t even open (nothing about this on the gate as we walked in and nothing on the website).I wish i hadn't spend 4 hours and 2 hotel nights wasting my time, i'd much rather go to Legoland.

Just letting you know that when we came, the whole theme park was full of wasps and you should do something about it! Your staff in all of your food shops and where you buy your tickets from are very, very rude the way they treat customers. My kids enjoyed it but we have been there plenty of times before but we wouldn't come again and I would not recommend Drayton Manor Theme Park and Zoo to anybody.

written by Parisiangirl on 16/09/2008

I can not believe how filthy the place is, especially as you are queuing for Shockwave. And there was a collection of used chewing gum up the stairs, NICE! The place is generally shabby and how clean the food outlets are-on that subject there is little choice and little seating! All in all I won't be rushing back-if I ever go again!

I disagree with this review because i founded the park quet clean compaired to some in the uk, like alton towers and pleasurebeach, at alton towers you will find chewin gum in ride lines like air and nemesis, dont get me wrong they should do something about it, all parks need to do something about it, ill rate this park more then 1 becouse the selection of good rides that they have built and the zoo in all i think drayton manor is a great day out

Went on the 30th August. Apart from the place being absolutely filthy, I paid about £70 to spend all day queuing. Had to queue to drive into the car park, had to queue for an hour to buy the ticket, then had to queue to get into the park. Every ride had a queue (over an hour) only got on 4 rides the whole day, had to queue for the toilets and even to buy some food. The only thing we didn't have to queue for was the hand washing basins in the toilets! Overall, it was a waste of time and money.

“After a 3 hour car trip we arrived at Drayton manor,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by alliesk on 01/09/2008

After a 3 hour car trip we arrived at Drayton manor, what a shock. The place was absolutely filthy, we arrived at 9am, waited til 9.30 to get in and then til 10.30 for the rides to open. On arrival there was rubbish everywhere from the day(s) before. Many of the rides were shut which was disappointing for August. There is a general air of disrepair and squalor, several kiosks were also shut with rubbish strewn all around. The queues are ridiculous and nowhere near as organised as Alton Towers, also the rides themselves are second class in comparison (those open that is). The water in the log flume, river rapids and lake are a smelly, stagnant toxic waste again strewn with rubbish, and the staff are sullen, surley and generally hacked off with the world!
At the end of the day we purchased burgers and chips from the burger shack, my advice is DO NOT eat there...the burgers were the cheapest, nastiest burgers ever seen. The chips could have been used as lethal weapons had we chosen to throw them (rather than put them in the bin).
We would suggest to anyone thinking of a trip to Drayton Manor to think again and avoid at all costs...Alton towers is a thousand times better in all aspects...and yes, I will be sending photographic evidence to the management of Drayton and to the tourist board that gave it the awards!!
