I set up a Barclays savings account for my first child simply because I had an account there and although the branch is no longer handy they opened on Saturday mornings so I was able to call in. The process of setting it up wasn't that complicated but the big problem I have with Barclays is that the branch is not directly contactable through the internet or by phone. Instead everything has to go through a call centre. I rang a week ago to try and get put through to the bank to arrange an appointment to set up an account for my second child and was told they would fax the branch to ring me back within 2 hours. It is now 6 days later and I have had no response. I plan to open an account elsewhere for my second child and will be going into Barclays to complain (again) at the poor service. Funnily enough the service I received as a Woolwich customer although not perfect was superior to Barclays.

I opened the Barclays Junior Plus account as it has best rate of interest in compare with other bank. This was definitely the best account for both mine and my son's needs.

I think it is good for children to have their own savings account because they might need the money for emergencies and for college one day. overall i think its a good idea the kids should save money because its for their future goals!

When I opened the Barclays Junior BarclayPlus Children's Saving Account for my second daughter I hadn't been informed that in order to not to pay taxes I had to fill a form and I realized it only after one year when my statement was due.

Barclays Junior BarclayPlus Children's Saving Account - I opened this account as it had the best current rate of interest paid compared to most of the major banks. At 4.25% up to £1000 then 4.75% and the added extra of no tax! This was definitely the best account for both mine and my son's needs. I am pleased that there are added security measures for withdrawing money from the account since it is for my son's future, and with all the extra security needed for our accounts why shouldn't ...

I gained 2p with a balance of 45 pounds it was rubbish, the worst bank ever!
