Good Points: Excellent performance, aesthetics and build quality
Bad Points: Video card is pretty puny by today's standards
General comments: I bought my A290 a couple of years ago factory refurbished. To this day, it's still a phenomenal all around multimedia machine. Something very special. Just wanted to put that out there. Well recommend the Sony Vaio VGN A290.

I have had this laptop for a little over a week my brother in law bought his new in 2004 or 2005 and he has liked it so I came across this vgn-a290 for a good price and I love it has a lot of memory and I use it for home anyways but all and all I really like this Sony Vaio VGN A290, awesome laptop..

owned since 2K4, she's just about 4 yrs old.
SONY really doesn't do packages like this anymore (unless I missed it) with the docking station - for the money.
Recently purchased new FZ premium notebook. still like my big girl. she's a solid (NO FAT) performer. I'm mostly ppt, jpeg, and wav's. A290 still surfs like a hawaiian, hardline or wireless.
Wanted to partition the HD w/Vista on one and XP on the other.
SONY rep said it would be a bad idea. Vista doesn't run everything I need it to. Oh wel ...

The Sony VAIO VGN-A290 has the trademark Sony style and Sony reliability. It's a top product which is easy to use. Sound specifications & functionality.

Overall the Sony VAIO VGN-A290 is a nice machine that costs too much, but its a dependable unit, it's a Sony, it can take anything, and if I can't tear one up its got to be good!!!!!! Trust me!!!!
