Hi viewers, we have a Hotpoint Dishwasher FDW60; and we recently experienced a fire in the house caused but a loose connection in the circuit board within the loading door. this type of fire could of caused a significant damage to the kitchen interior, and also could of injured 7 members of our family that live in this house. we have two very young children that could of got seriously injured or could have died due to this outrageous fire. I also think that these serious matters should be... (read more)

Bought this dishwasher machine a few years back, I had problems within the first year with the circuit board which they replaced. Just over a year later ( 1 week) same problem circuit board burning out. Hotpoint claim their replacement parts are guaranteed a year and they will replace faulty parts free of charge if the same problem occurs. First person at call centre said that as its over the year I would have to pay £80 for the engineer to call out. After my insistence she agreed as it... (read more)

I moved to an old property 6 years ago. It has six bedrooms and numerous other rooms and is full of old wooden beems. Shortly after moving in I bought a new Hotpoint FDW60 dishwasher. To be fair it has been reliable up until three weeks before Christmas when it caught fire. Normally the dishwasher is put on at night when we go to bed. As luck would have it on this particular day my wife put it on before she went shopping. Two hours later she came back to drop off the shopping before... (read more)

It stopped working shortly after the warranty ran out. Looked up possible faults and to see what the flashing lights meant and stumbled upon people having possible fires with there machine comming from the front door. Being a qualified and experienced electrical engineer I stripped the front door apart to find the control panel circuit board was black and "crispy" signs of electrical arcing! Did a bit of digging and found out that hotpoint is part of GE or general electric who have had a... (read more)

I have just received a letter today from Hotpoint for a free repair to this particular model.Unfortunately 18 months ago this particular model set on fire causing extensive damage to my kitchen/dining room.I had to have the fire brigade out due to the dishwasher been well alight before i knew.I dread to think if i hadn't been in at the time what the rest of my house would have been like. The fire brigade said "the fire had started on the front control panel and i should get in touch with the manufacturer".Unfortunately i didn't get in touch with Hotpoint...thought they would just fob me off.Think i might write to Hotpoint now, especially with having a report from the fire service.

I have also just recieved the letter from hotpoint and they have replaced the board, too little too late for some! Hopefully pcb number 3 is a good one, might just check my fire alarm before I go bed...

The original pcb went in the bin a while ago, but shortly after writing this review I recieved a letter from hotpoint admitting in very rare situations the pcb could pose a fire risk and are undertaking a voluntary replacment as a precaution. They have now replaced it for free however the engineer placed the old board in the bin, it was faulty before they turned up I just never told them so that I could get a free repair, but I have fished the board out it is black and crispy not as bad as the first one. If it is still usefull to you your welcome to it but I am guessing that as hotpoint are now acting upon it then its of no interest.

Eek! I only Googled my machine to find out its size and then came across this article. I have had mine since late 2005 and to be honest have been quite impressed so far with its build quality and performance. I usually run it over night or even switch it on before I go out for a day or two.
Given the great number of fires with this machine there seems little doubt about the potential danger and I am no longer very comfortable using it.
I wonder if using faster/lower-temperatuires Quick- or Eco wash (which I always do) reduces the risk although if it is actually a PCB overheating then I guess than won't make much difference...

I have been through 2 pcb boards both black and crispy but luckily no fire but looking at the boards I can see how it could be possible its melted plastic inside and the wiring insulation has been burned. Hotpoint have now wrote to me with a free replacment programme maybe worth your while checking whether your machine is eligible for piece of mind.

We came downstairs this morning to find the kitchen consumed by smoke, the house soon filled with a pungent electrical burning smell. Having had an engineer’s visit (2 days after the incident) we are having a new dishwasher delivered this week.
The engineer was understanding but had never seen this type of incident before! He did a full investigating and wrote out a full report. Within an hour of his visit I had a call from Indiset and a new replacement was on order. I cannot complain about the service I received but I feel that this is because this machine is under investigation. I have reported it to the trading standards and will be passing photos onto (name removed) who is on this review centre as he is compiling a portfolio of issues and incidents. We have a had a lucky escape and I hope that trading standards act upon this asap and a recall is sent out on this type of dishwasher before more incidents happen.

ours has in the last hour caught fire and like you we have a dog and im just so glad we were home when the incident happened as this could have be so so much worse and the bloody coments from cautious catherine would have been so different had her machine burst into flames and her comments regarding washing food from plates first would in no way shape or form make a difference to this very serious electrical fault that causes the control panel to burn out thus creating a very high risk of fire to the appliance and surrounding areas
im an electrician and can say this is going to end up causing the loss of lives and damage to property unless all the machines are recalled and faults are rectified as the unit is not blowing the fuse in the supply which is the very reason a fuse is installed in the first place

I have also had a fire break out in my Hotpoint dishwasher, and like you said I do not want it replaced with another Hotpoint, but I was shocked when the insurance lady said that she has hundreds of claims for dishwashers catching fire , and that Hotpoint were one of the three least effected brands, and most reliable. She said that the problem was with the circuit boards in the machine catching fire, which is what happened to ours. It is difficult to put out because it was inside the door panel, and it wasn,t until it had stunk the house out and burnt the knobs and the flames started to come out that we could use the electrical fire extinguisher to put the fire out.
Like you I have left it on when I have gone to bed or to work, which is what I thought they were designed for, luckily it happened five minutes before I went to bed and I was in the same room, or our family could have been another one wiped out by an eletrical fault. The smell was worst and had got to me before the fire alarm could go off I had opened the windows, I think being placed under the work top and the flames coming out from the top of the door panel the fire could have spread very quickly. I will never leave anything but my fridge and freezers on over night again.

I have had my Hotpoint FDW60G for approx 16 months. Right from the start it never washed properly, always leaving the tablet stuck to the insert or wet dishes etc.
The straw that has finally broken the camels back is that 3 days ago (luckily) when my wife was in the kitchen it start to emit smoke. Within 1 minute the front panel was on fire (yes on fire). normally as a family we put appliances on over night or when we go out.
The front of the machine is melted as the fire was an electrical...

This machine is rubbish, in fact we bought Hotpoint appliances throughout when we moved home 2 years ago. All are now on the tip. Fridge lasted 1 year and two days, washing machine just under two years and now the FDW60 dishwasher has just been skipped.I don't know whats happened to this company but they produce expensive garbage . Their customer support is a joke .I didn't even bother trying to repair any of these items as I just don't want that brand in my home. Avoid Hotpoint,Indesit and... (read more)

DO NOT BUY! After about 2 years, problems started. Waste pipe eroded away and needed replacing. Now it has packed up completely with no error messages. Smelt a slight burning smell and now when on wash mode all i can here is a bubbling noise and the water inside is freezing. Lookin at other reviews and the cost it takes to repair, i will be skipping this one. (read more)

In reviewing a consumer product it is all to easy to be scathing if the product does not come up to expectation. However even with the best will in the world it is impossible not to conclude that the Hotpoint FDW60 Dishwasher is simply not fit for purpose. Even more worringly if my experience is representative of that of others then the entire service and maintenance system operated by this company is designed around maximising profit on product/s launched into the market place without... Agreed 100%.This dishwasher and the other look-a-like models are just plain rubbish-sorry ,but true! Most common problems are heater tube failure and leaks which flood the base which does two things,1-this triggers a float swt which makes the pump come on all the time,ie will not fill up with water,2-the metal base pan is moulded so as to make room for the wash motor this is bad news when it leaks badly because the motor windings are then paddling in water. There was by all accounts a bad batch of outlet hoses which tended to split about 8" distance from the pump-don`t know or why but some do/did.As a matter of pure chat i do not rate any Hotpoint/Indesit products at all,or if you want to twist my arm i`d give this company and its products 2/100-the 2 is for sheer nerve!!The best Hotpoint d/w were from the early 1990`s or before as these were badged Bosche which were better built than todays Bosche also-As you may have guessed, yes,i am a domestic appliance service engineer for 26 years!!

Our FDW60 has finally died after three and a half years, I am not even going to bother trying to have it repaired, Ikea have a perfectly adquate and triple 'A' rated machine for £189. My Hotpoint has been quirky from just after the warranty expired, with the indicator lights either flashing erratically, several programme indicators illuminating at once or more often than not, failing to indicate at all. We found that by using the re-set button to cancel erratic or multiple lights, we could... (read more)

Avoid Avoid AVOID!!!! I have had this Hotpoint FDW60 Dishwasher for 2 years now and it has gone wrong 3 times. The heating circuit packs up every time. As it is over the 12 months they charge £159 to replace it every time regardless of when last fitted as the parts are not covered. Ok the machine looks nice in grey and to replace it you look at over £300, but this is the last time i buy Hotpoint and the last time i replace this part. Service centre polite but tried to tell me that Finish D/W... (read more)

I have owned a hotpoint FDW60 for 3 years and it is absolute garbage. It has broken 3 times and this last time it needs a new board so I have decided to ditch it for good. Stay away! it is unreliable, noisy and poor, poor value for money. Like a previous reviewer I had my last dishwasher for 11 years without any problems. (read more)

Do you know how old these dishwashers date back to? I think my model is a FDW60P, it is 4 years old and it recently flooded and we've had to buy a replacement. I just wondered if it was same one that has been recalled, if we were in danger of this fire hazard and should we have been contacted about it?
