“Painfully slow service”

we are trying to switch products when a fixed term mortgage ends. What a performance! for existing an existing customer of 12 years, it should be easier than this. We have to wait 1 month for an advisor call, which will be 1 hour long and many questions and paperwork required just to switch. “worst banking experience ever ”

I have banked with many building societies over the years, however this one is outstanding, the poor customer service, the online banking was problematic, calls unreturned, one problem after another, It took more than a month to open the account, where I had no access to my funds, I have had the account for 2 months with nothing but problems and I am now closing it down. Tried to transfer my ISA to Skipton BS which all seemed straightforward - account set up was fine, transfer request seemed to be fine, until I needed to make an amendment to the amount, that was... “Skipton only have a £15,000 insurance for accounts”

Skipton only have a £15,000 insurance for accounts, this little known rule is not mentioned in any literature or contract you agree with them. Apparently then can can the Terms & Conditions of your account without you knowledge. I have 2 formal complainants with them, before forwarding on to the ombudsman for investigation. Skipton is probably the worst bank/building society I have ever had to experience. Shoddy customer service and a real sense of corporatism make for an unpleasant customer experience. “House Insurance quotes”

On the 5th January visited our local branch to open a new bank account. Whilst there we agreed to receive a quote for our home insurance which was due to expire. It was agreed that the Skipton home insurance advisor would ring at 10am on the 6th which he did. After a telephone call of about 30 minutes the advisor said he woul obtain a quote , ring back that afternoon and confirm the details by way of email that day. “Do NOT use Skipton - lost £430 on mortgage application”

In April I paid booking fee and valuation fee of £430 and after the valuation I was told the property was worth £3000 less than the asking price which was very inaccurate. I could have paid this extra amount out of my own money but Skipton would not allow me this option and decided that the loan I was asking for should be reduced by £10000 based on the valuation report and not due to my income. I've just started my mortgage application which is urgent , got accepted straight away in principle - perfect then it took two weeks to get another appointment which asked the same questions. Then the problems started. I sent in the confidential info they asked for, these sat on a persons desk for week they were never scanned and returned to me. “Mortgage Valuation Fee”

ABSOLUTELY APPAULING!!!! Worst mortgage lenders i've ever had the joy to deal with. SHOCKING! Valuation fee was supposed to be taken from me around the start of May...they said it could take up to 5 working days. 5 days would have been fine... However i was then told after the 5 days that it would be 13 MORE DAYS... slightly annoying i'm sure you'll admit. “Wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy”

Re-Mortgages. Did two buy to let re-mortgages in March this year. Still not completed, Appalling service with no one capable of taking ownership. Would like to walk away and not deal with them but paid £490 in application fees. The stress of dealing with it all has been horrendous and "the free legals" through conveyancing direct they should be paying people to use them. I wish I had seen the reviews of this appalling company before I decided to transfer my own ISA and that of my wife. Their customer service is appalling - I note that others have managed to speak to someone on the telephone - unfortunately I have not been so lucky - simply a constant answer phone for up to 15 minutes!! by which time you lose the will to live. Not worth any stars. Mortgage application (November 13) has taken months after constant requests for info and taking the payment for the process. Turned around and declined as they just Jan14 changed their criteria to do with the rent of our old place just covering covering the let to buy mortgage payments even though our affordability on their application for the new house was easily affordable. Used mortgage broker who was a joke from the start however due to a default on credit file 4yrs ago, was told Skipton were the best option. Initial calls made to confirm that was not going to be a problem. Submitted application paid fees, they asked for every bit of information which was given. “Doesn't deserve any stars - worst mortgage lender EVER”

In trying to re-mortgage our flat on a buy-to-let, this lender asked for every piece of information they could possibly think of, took months processing it, then sent a valuer round who proceeded to under-value the property by £10K meaning the equity that could be taken out of the property was less then we needed. They asked for comparables of other properties sold at the higher price and when we sent through two, they still didn't increase the value. We've waited 10 weeks and now have to go… Read Full Review

“How can they justify this!!!!!!”

Approximately 6 years ago I took out 2 competitively priced 5 year fixed mortgages with this company at 5.15% fixed. The rate was due to fall to 2.99% above Bank Of England Base Rate so rate payable of 3.49%(at todays rate). Over the next 4 years interest rates fell which meant that the Skipton were receiving a very healthy return on their investment. A year or so before the fixed rate was due to finish they changed the agreement due to extreme market conditions so the rate payable at the end… Read Full Review

Dont bother trying for a mortgage we were messed about over remortgage after recieving a motgage offer in principle. Spent over a mth to sort a suitable product once our house sold and then after another 2 weeks the underwriters declined because we use oyr agreed overdraft with current account. Fantastic!!!!
