“Noisy and crowded”

Luton airport is like taking the elements of Gatwick airport and squeezing them into a much tinier space. This exaggerates all the bad points about Gatwick - crowds, stress, queues, noise, poor quality services etc. The only thing I liked was the quick passage through security otherwise it was unrelentingly awful. Also it's not in London at all, its in the middle of nowhere!

“Worst airport experience ever”

I was disgusted at the airport The parking is so far away from the arrivals point and after a long flight the last thing you want to do is walk through the cold weather on a trek to the car park. The car park is astronomical priced and so expensive. The cheapest amount is £7!!!!! For that price you would at least expect a decent and well managed car park. The floor is very unstable with potholes all over. It was extremely hard to push the luggage trolley to the car What a horrible way to end a pleasant flight Will think again before using Luton airport

“Waited 75 minutes for my baggage after landing :(”

Flying from Luton seemed like a good idea as we live in Cambridge. On arrival the airport was quiet (Saturday afternoon) and we went through in good time. We waited a long time to board our flight to Lisbon as there was only one person at the boarding gate (glad I didn't purchase speedy boarding). Otherwise everything went well. Different story on the return journey. On landing we taxied to our allocated stand, but were held up for a while whilst waiting for ground crew to guide the pilot onto the stand. This was nothing compared with the delay in getting our baggage however - we landed on time at 22.50 Got off the plane at 23.00. Sailed through security, and then waited for 75 minutes for our baggage. We were not alone however as 6 other flights came in within a few minutes of each other. A young woman, who was there to provide assistance to a wheelchair passenger explained that "every weekend is the same", she added "they can never get people to work nights on the weekend, or they call in sick at the last minute". There are pads with faces on throughout the airport, but the 'grumpy' face was the only one being pressed on Saturday night. It certainly will feature in any future decision I make to fly from Luton airport. We landed at 22.50 and finally managed to leave the airport at 00.20 which simply led the drive back to Cambridge! Not good enough Luton .. definitely needs improvement.

“FAST TRACK SECURITY”

Paid for fast track security. Got through the boarding card checkpoint quickly but found the fast track examination belt taped off and we had to merge into a queue of non-fast track travellers some of whom were none too happy at what they saw as queue jumping. Spoke to the supervisor who shouted something to one of his colleagues. No apology of course.

“Can not cope with the volume. Avoid! ”

A bad experience today which nearly cost us our flight. We arrived with 1hr 45 to spare. Parked up and the bus took us 30mins to get into the airport!! Now we have 1hr15 to spare. Still enough time. Queued to check in (which is as expected). Then queued for 30 plus mins to get through security! Not impressed. Nor was I impressed with the lack of ATM to get plastic liquid bags. Didn't need in the end but anyway was not amused. Our flight check in has now closed by the time we are through this palava!! Finding our gate and running for it and seeing the doors shut we were then allowed through fortunately but only as the lady took sympathy on us. She couldn't resist smugly pointing out how much it nearly cost us. The airport itself is lovely. Clean, lots of coffee shops all that you would expect from a small airport. It seems that the airport clearly can't handle the volume and I've never queued in a 'small' airport for such a long time. Very stressful experience rubbed in our face by the staff. Will not choose again as is not worth the stress. I have read a similar review of someone actually missing their flight due to the airports poor timings.

“ENTRY EXIT PROBLEMS”

PRE PAID ON THE INTERNET FOR SHORT TERM PARKING - ON ARRIVING THE BARRIER WOULD NOT LIFT. TOOK ABOUT 3-4 MINUTES FOR THE INTERCOM TO BE AN SWERED WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAMERA MAY NOT BE WORKING CORRECTLY. ON EXIT THE BARRIER WOULD NOT LIFT AND SCREEN MESSAGE WAS THAT £140 : 00 EXCESS CHARGES WOULD HAVE TO BE PAID. TOO CIRCA 5 MINUTES FOR THE INTERCOM TO BE ANSWERED. GAVE REFERENCE NUMBER AND BARRIER WAS LIFTED. N OT AT ALL IMPRESSED.

“exit problem”

The ticket would not allow barrier to raise. It took over 10 minutes for someone to answer the help phone. Arrival and parking was no problem.

“okay location but poor otherwise”

One night parking in short term - pre-booked on internet. Good point: Easy to find, close to terminal. Bad points: Car park is a bit rough and ready - not great surfaces (i.e. full of pot holes) and road/space markings, not many signs to indicate "sectors" of the car park to remember where you are parked and therefore it took me a good 5 minutes to find my car (in the cold, dark and rain) on my return. When I pulled up to leave, my registration was not recognised and I waited for about 5 minutes for someone to answer and let me out. Quite honestly, I will use this car park for its location - but it will p1ss me off no end

“Fined disproportionately”

The long/medium stay car parking facilities at Luton airport are well organised, convenient and the transfer buses plentiful. But be warned, if you don't make your booking window wide enough to cover any eventuality, it could prove very expensive! We had an excellent run on the motorway during rush hour and arrived early, 49 minutes early. Not wanting to park up somewhere random and wait, we entered the facility. Upon our return, (half an hour early), we discovered that we would have to pay £15.20 for those 49 minutes - making a three-night parking bill almost £50. So we felt we were penalised for wanting to use the official facility when there are much cheaper options just down the road. If you arrive early or your flight is delayed and you collect your car late, you face a disproportionate charge which will leave you with a overall negative experience.

“Wouldnt use again”

Flew to Crete on 22nd September and had pre booked the car park, when we arrived it was pretty full and went round a few times before finding a spot, havingparked then waited 15 minutes for the transfer bus to terminal. On our return, which was 2am, we proceeded to the barrier which then asked for the full payment, which we had already paid when we booked, spoke to the assistant who took the reference number and released the barrier. This is the 2nd time we have use the long term parking at Luton and the 2nd time we have had the same experience, even having pre booked they asked for payment again, which at 2.45am you just want to get home.

“Luton Airport Short term car park overbooking!”

When we arrived at the car park it was clear from the outset that there were too many cars there. Scores of motorists driving around aimlessly trying to find spaces, access roads at the end of parking bays blocked completely and very few spaces available. We eventually found a space close to the entrance near the fence so if you're using this try there first. When we returned and went to the exit we were confronted with a demand for £118 or so even although we'd prepaid when we booked. A quick call on the intercom soon sorted it out but we had to wait a few minutes for a response as the car next to us seemed to have a similar problem!

“pre payment problems”

although i had pre paid for the parking and the reg number was on the ticket etc at entry the machine failed to register that I had pre paid when leaving. Had to wait for someone to answer the intercom before being let out of the car park after a few minutes wait. rows of parking are not clearly marked out and there is no way to turn round at end of some rows so resulted in myself and 3 other cars having to reverse out of the lane.

“Stuck in car park”

Tried to get out of car park at end of two week holiday when machine asked me to pay when I had prepaid Head out of window in pouring rain waited five minutes for answer on intercom for answer before being let out of car park.

“Stuck in car park again”

Yet again despite pre-paying the exit barriers refused to open, machine wanted me to pay again, £180 and was left waiting for 15 minutes for someone to deal with the problem and open the barrier. No apology, nothing. Terrible service again at Luton Car Park.

“Short term parking a bit rough”

I pre-booked but the number plate recognition didn't work. The car park has an extremely untidy arrangement with rough surfaces all patched up. The lines of parked cars didn't allow turning at the ends so you had to turn around at the end of searching in any row. I parked under a lighting unit apparently frequented by many birds! It is relatively cheap and walking to the terminal was convenient. Staff were helpful and polite.

“Not Good Enough”

We arrived back at Luton at 20:00 on 23 September and had a 15 minute wait for the mid stay car park bus. After loading our luggage and heading to exit barrier only one exit in operation which cased quite a long an un-acceptable delay. Why is it you cannot install reliable technology and maintain properly? Would like to see some explanations and an improvement plan by car park staff on this as a review.

“Could do Better!”

Had to wait over 20 minutes for a bus to take us to the terminal & then on trying to exit only one barrier was functional. Despite pre paying at a price of £30 an extra £58 was demanded when we arrived at the barrier. Needless to say not overly impressed.

“Damaged car and poor bus timings”

After waiting 30 minutes for a bus back to the mid term car park, I found that my car door had been damaged badly by another driver. Less than impressed. Despite booking over a month in advance and taking care to make sure all the time details were accurate I was still stopped at the barrier saying I owed another £156!! This was resolved over the intercom but clearly there are issues with the computer software. All in all, a pretty poor experience

“it lacks a ciggy area and bars close to early”

90% of airports have a smoking area when you get into the departures and bars open till the end.. Got through security, no cig area, got one drink in a bar and it was finished serving at around 8.30pm on a wednesday. Poor form

“Poorly maintained, no on site co-ordination.”

For the cost, this short stay car park is in very poor condition and badly needs re-surfacing. Seemingly no on site management with cars being allowed to park outside of designated bays and blocking entry and exit routes. Once you've driven down a row to look for a space you have to reverse back because you cannot drive to the next row in a "loop". It was chaos when looking for a space, especially if other cars have followed you down the same row! Upon trying to exit, ticket machine asked for >£100 even though I had pre-paid and was within the allotted time. Finally got resolved but added to the whole unsatisfactory experience.

I would like to book 6 people fast track at London Luton airport. We are flying at 6.35 so I wanted to book it at 4.30 am and the booking would only take it from 6.00am. Is this the opening time? Will they stop us going through before 6.00am?

I’ve recently booked fast track at Luton via my car parking app but realised that I’d booked the wrong time ! I have contacted the company and they assured me that the times printed on my pass will not prevent me using them. Does anyone know if this statement is correct or will I get refused entry ? Thanks.
