I have tried on a number of occasions to purchase items from Debenhans on line using my card - despite having a £900 credit limit and always paying my balance in full each month - every time I try to purchase - either my beauty card number / my Debenhans card number/ or my email address is not recognised - I have now given up and use house of Fraser instead - much easier for a full time working mum who uses on line shopping a lot - and don't even go there with paying your balance through new… Read Full Review

“Total Rubbish”

Debenhams, in conjunction with New Day, make these card payments almost impossible to check & the customer service is practically non-existent. Instead of itemising each order on your statement, the purchases are just listed as a total sum, which is not always correct. Just like if you buy a trolley full of shopping at your supermarket and pay with your debit card, it does list every item you have piad on your bank statement. That's why you keep your receipt

You don't get a receipt when you order items on-line via the Debenhams website, the items are listed on that order.
But when you get the credit card bill from New Day it only shows the total amount for that order - nothing is itemised & the total amounts don't always match!

They charged me too much for one of my orders so I asked them to provide an itemised bill, as none of my Debenhams orders matched the amount on my bill. But neither Debenhams or New Day could actually do it!!

Did not supply revised date card when previous card expired - so no credit card service available. Complained and they cancelled other cards on the account that we did not want cancelled. This includes a card needed to pay a holiday bill. Complained again and entered their complaints procedure which takes 5 - 7 working days during which no credit card in our possession is useable. Never ever get this card, they blocked my card just because I applied House of fraser card which belongs to same company Newday limited. They asked me to send ID document to their fraud department , I did sent my ID two times , first one non-recorded and second recorded, After post office recorded delivery note I called them they said yes the have received it and told me the colleague who is dealing with your he is not there and he will definitely give you call back, I never received call back… Read Full Review

Wow I am impressed. Quick easy online application, accepted with instant spend available and 10% off my purchases for the first 7 days. Well I have been a Debenhams MasterCard holder for the past 2 months and so far I an really pleased with the service that I have received from Debenhams and NewDay customer service.. “BUYING FROM DEBENHAMS WAS A MISTAKE!”

Buying from Debenhams was a mistake! Such a poor customer service, no one from Debenhams have an answer and knows what should I do next. I've been passed from one help to another. “AWFUL - avoid at all costs”

After sending me a confirmation letter of my dd been set up I queried on their Web form why payment had not left my account. I did not receive response and got fine a late penalty fee. When I called up (which took several attempts to get through to someone) they blamed me, I should supposedly make a manual payment in case it had not been set up even though weeks before they had sent me letter confirmation that it was active. What a nightmare getting one of these debenhams cards turned out to be. I didnt even really want the card but was foolishly talked into it by the debenhams cashier. All went well, I cleared my balance, spent and cleared again. Then two months later I got a letter from the store telling me that they had lost my paperwork and had therefore frozen my account until I reapply. Debanhams card was fine when santander issued it then it changed to new day. Terrible card Customer services are atrocious I have cancelled my card as of today won't be shopping no more in debanhams. “Steer clear of setting up a Direct Debit Mandate”

Like others I wish I had read reviews on taking a Debenhams Store Card to save 20percent. I complete the Direct Debit Mandate form which came through with my 'start up package'. Checked my bank statement and I could see the NewDay DD waiting to pay my balance IN FULL that month as I had instructed. Off I went on my travels, thinking all sorted. 22/092015 Alas it's not just the card its customer service too is bad! To be fair at the outset I was late making a payment by a few days. I had returned from abroad and on opening my post noted a bill from Debenhams Store Card, payment due by 18/09/2015. I immediately rang the number on the bill to sort out the issue. “Poor service and lack of transparency”

We are leaving Debenhams as a credit card company as they: 1. Failed to set up the direct debit correctly as requested 2. Produce paperwork that makes it look like you have paid off when it has not been 3. Their service personnel are disconnected from their firm and seem not to be bothered It cost us two premium rate phone calls (once to set up direct debit and secondly ask why it was not working) and we won't be reimbursed for this. “DREADFUL COMPANY -READ REVIEWS FIRST”

I was talked into taking this card out in store to receive a 20% discount that day. I always pay the full amount as soon as receiving statement so as not to occur any charges. Statements were missed then when the statement did arrive it had £12 late payment fee. I phoned, complained, paid in full and closed the account. Wish I had done my research before opening a card with debenhams! I set up a direct debit to pay the full amount each month and received a letter confirming it had been set up. When my first statement arrived I thought it would be automatically paid. No such luck! The bill was not paid and I was charged £50 in total for late payment fees and interest. Apparently DD take 6 weeks to be activated but I argued that it does not say anything about that in the letter plus on the back of the statement… Read Full Review
