“Horrible resort”

★☆☆☆☆

written by marouka on 10/07/2011

It was a terrible experience going to this hotel. It can't be more than 1 star hotel or maybe half star. Staff were very rude, air conditioning was not working. security people walk beside your balcony and try to see what you're doing in your room ( VERY RUDE ). Workers talk about you in front of you in Arabic language in a nasty way. I hope this hotel will close soon. Their beach is horrible, you will find people annoying you and disturbing you to sell their services ( massage ect....) On your check in, they will let you stay in the reception not less than 1 hour although they have empty rooms ( low level of customer service ). I booked for 2 days but couldn't stay for more than 1 day so i left ! i will never think to go to this place again.

Having it be my first time travelling to Sharm el sheikh, my partner and i booked into this GRAND SHARM RESORT 4* (as stated) ALL INCLUSIVE thinking nothing could possibly go wrong with our trip being in a 4* hotel. How wrong could we be?? the staff at reception were polite even though they had little understanding of english, but the rooms were FILTHY! the sink and bath tub were rusting away, dirty foot prints on the back of the bathroom door, the tables had dirty cup stains and what was even worse was the restaurant. our first night there we decided to have dinner and make it an early night. The next day we got up and made our way to the restaurant for breakfast- the table my partner and i sat at the previous night, was still left dirty with crumbs we'd left there the previous night. The staff in the restaurant were rude, and left us sitting for half an hour before serving us even thought they acknowledged us coming in to the restaurant and sitting down. So after breakfast, we decided to go look for an internet cafe and book ourselves into the HILTON WORLDWIDE RESORTS in Nama Bay. excellent. It was the best choice ever! i would really recommend the HILTON. Definately 9/10 at the Hilton. And for the GRAND SHARM RESORT... i would honestly give it no stars if i had the choice!

written by J F Graham on 19/07/2010

I was at this so called GRAND Sharm Resort in May with my wife and parents, if this was my first time in Egypt I would never set foot in the place again. The whole complex was FILTHY, run down and dangerous. The tiles around the pool area were cracked, broken or missing, the bridge across the pool was falling apart and the umbrellas around the pool were hanging in tatters. The food was just awful, novariation at all, you could not get ice on the complex for your drinks as all the machines were broken. There were dirty plates lying about on stairs to the apartments for days before they were lifted. The rooms were a joke, the toilets were filthy with mould and if you were not careful you would get an electric shock from the light switches, as did my wife and I. Overall a bomd site waiting for an accident to happen. This holiday was booked through Thomas Cook, who are now trying to distance themselves from blame over the state of this Criminal resort

“The food at the Creative Grand Sharm Resort is at best...”

★★☆☆☆

written by sbhogal on 02/03/2009

The food at the Creative Grand Sharm Resort is at best average and repetitive, if they serve chicken and lunch, you can guarantee to see chicken on the menu on the evening. Breakfast is abysmal, limited choice which included selection of overcooked vegetables. If you want an alcoholic drink at lunch time, you have to go to the bar to collect it yourself. Apparently the waiters aren't allowed to bring the drinks over to you. The condition of the restaurant is below standard. Old fashioned chairs with wooden seat and covered by tatty cushions. It also appeared that the single high chair was home made. The rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment, there was grime around the shower and the bath tub. The resort is not on the beach, the alleged private beach is over 1km away and certainly not suitable for a family with young children (aged 4 & 2). And its not private, its shared with at least another three/four resorts. Anything besides a soft drink at the beach cost money, even if you have chosen the all inclusive option. With a bottle of beer costing 25 Egyptian Pounds it soon become an expensive day if you intend on having a drink by the beach. The only beach that is suitable for young children is over 15 mins away in the shuttle bus. The alcoholic drinks on offer with the all inclusive option are woefully cheap imitations of international brands. For example John Walker Red Label Whiskey, Gordoons Gin etc. Out of the resort and directly opposite there are two shopping/dining/drinking areas. If you head towards the right there is a place called Il Mercato you will find a very modern complex with some nice places to eat and drink and no hassle shopping. However if you want something more challenging and want to experience a typical Egyptian shopping then turn left and head towards the market place. Sharm El Shiekh is a place that I will go back to in the future, however I will be very careful about the resort I choose. Egypt is a wonderful country with friendlier people.

Staff very good. Food edible especially if you like chicken. Very poor reception staff, no entertainment, ran out of glasses and drinks daily repetitive food. Poor housekeeping, no entertainment. certainly not more than a 2* b&b. Out of the hotel 100% hassle. Not recommended.

Out side the resort is very nice, except you get hassled a lot and does put you of going out. The rock cafe was great! Nearest beach was not to practical as you could not walk straight into the sea! Nice country would go there again but not stay in this resort.

“With all inclusive you receive your drink served warm...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 02/03/2008

With all inclusive you receive your drink served warm in a plastic picnic mug not a glass and with no ice and if there are two or more in your party all of you have to go to the bar to get your own drink. There is no afternoon tea, coffee or ice cream for the children as stated in the brochure. All inclusive means that you have to eat 3 disgusting meals a day in the hotel and the advertised poolside bar does not serve all inclusive snacks only those that are paid for. The bar closes at 11.00 am and not 1.00 am as stated and there is no entertainment apart from a 15 minute belly dancing display one day and a 30 minute painful on the ears singing duo on another day . That is it for the week ! The rooms are below standard and not cleaned very well. Electrics leave a lot to be desired when I plugged my hair straighteners in, in the bathroom, both the wall lights went out. There is no other plug in the room for hairstyling equipment. The hotel outsources its laundry and managed to loose ours for 48 hours and when we went to reception to find out what as happening every time we were told it would be here in the next hour some 24 hours later it was back . Not impressed with the ironing everything had crease lines down the centre T shirs , shorts, trousers etc so not able to wear them anyway, Reception staff most unhelpful.
, No public toilets in the complex apart from the one in reception and you were not encouraged to go in there in swimming gear. Pool surround was dangerous for small children as tiles very slippery. Childrens playground was a joke most children have more play equipment in their back garden and we are only talking a small plastic slide here and a swing ! Bar decor does not exactly encourage you to spend a night in there. Hotel does not warrant more than 1 star and that is being generous,

I would go back to Egypt, but I wouldn't stay at the Creative Grand Sharm Resort, and I wouldn't book with Thomas Cook again either, as I feel thoroughly let down. I hope they look into these complaints. We also have 5 other couples who will verify what we have said. So I hope this gets investigated before even more complaints come through.

Thank You.

“We arrived at 11pm, and we were told had to pay, as...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by mcmann on 29/09/2006

We arrived at 11pm, and we were told had to pay, as the all inclusive had stopped at 11pm. We were put in a self catering room, even though we were all inclusive, and the rooms furniture was falling apart. Our shower curtain was held up by three pegs (although we were told we had a bath), and the room was overall disgusting. We were moved to an all inclusive room the following day after complaining, and it was not too bad, but it definitely wasn't 5*.

There was one inclusive restaurant at the Creative Grand Sharm Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, which only served food at certain times of the day, and all pool bar food was chargeable! The restaurant tables were never cleaned, and if you used a table someone else had used, you just got new cutlery as well as the persons before stains and crumbs!

After talking to many different people I realized we were not the only unhappy people there.

Two days before leaving the pool was tested, and it was found to be dirty, so we were unable to use the pool for nearly one whole day as they had to clean it.

“The Creative Grand Sharm resort was classed as a 4*...”

★★☆☆☆

written by markgolledge on 12/07/2006

The Creative Grand Sharm resort was classed as a 4* which it clearly was not. I would have classed it as a 2/3* at best.
We trusted the tour operators judgement and therefore proceeded with the holiday and we were greatly disappointed.

We were totally disappointed with the food, as there was no variety and the quality was certainly not 4* class. The buffet style food was out at room temperature for 2 hours or more, thus resulting in incorrect temperature controls. Most of the dishes served were not labelled, so we did not feel confident with what we were eating. With the mundane variety, we were forced to eat elsewhere after the 4th day, at an extra expense that was not budgeted for.

We paid for a 10 day holiday which started with no food available on arrival at 11pm, and once we had checked out of our room at mid-day on our final day we were left to pay for food and drinks which we had considered that we had already paid for within our 10 days. This again forced us to eat elsewhere at extra cost. So we calculate that we actually received 8 days worth of all inclusive food and drink (at most).
Considering that this was classed as an all inclusive resort we found it totally unacceptable to pay for drinks in certain areas, such as the only cafe bar which had a TV showing the World Cup. Drinks were chargeable where as 20 feet away all drinks were free, this is clearly exploiting tourists.
Also in the pool and beach area food was to be paid for, this is not normal in an all inclusive deal.

At the pool side and the beach there was a serious lack of sunbeds, thus making us get up extremely early to reserve them, which is not ideal on a relaxing holiday.

The so called children's play area was not suitable for children to play in, and it resembled a building site.

Service levels in the restaurant was not up to 4* standards, and we had finished our meal before we received our tea or coffee.

The staff within the hotel were smarmy towards all women, which is unacceptable within a business of that standard, especially to my girlfriend who had to eat alone on 2 occasions due to my severe stomach upset; this made her feel uneasy and very uncomfortable and put her off eating in the hotel for the remainder of the holiday.
People harassing us all the time was so tiresome all we wanted was to go into the restaurant, and we didn't need to be harassed in the hotel on the way by people that should not have been allowed into the hotel. If I wanted to go into a shop, have a tattoo, book a day trip or have a massage etc., I would have been able to decide for myself without it being rammed down my throat when all I wanted was to relax.

We have estimated that all the extra food and drinks have cost around an extra £150, which we did not budget for. Therefore, we could not afford to visit the pyramids, which was one of the main reasons we chose Egypt.

“We stayed at the Creative Sharm Resort hotel in Sharm...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by nikkigh on 08/07/2006

We stayed at the Creative Sharm Resort hotel in Sharm el Sheikh in the last week of June and 1st week of July 2006. The highest temperature was 41 degrees, and the lowest was 32 degrees.

My partner and I were really excited to go on another one of our All Inclusive holidays, and we were looking forward to being pampered, as with several other places. We have been around the world, but we were very disappointed with this hotel. The hotel is advertised at 4*, unfortunately this was the ranking it had last year when an Italian company used to own it. It has now been run down to 2/3* quality, and rumour has it that it's owned by timeshare tycoons! Not a good start.

All inclusive only includes 3 meals a day at the 1 and only hotel restaurant, and it always consists of a rice dish, a chicken or meat dish, vegetables and potato, which wasn't gourmet but just about edible. Food at the pool and beach bars had to be paid for on top of your all inclusive package, although not expensive (nothing more than £5 a dish), it's not what I expected under all inclusive. To escape the hotels poor cuisine we ate at Columbus restaurant in Fantasia, and the milkshakes and food was absolutely wonderful at extremely cheap prices. I had a starter and main course, as did my partner, and with a milkshake each it came to £14!

The drinks at the pool and beach bars are served in tiny plastic cups, and the liquids are very seldomly cold, so either way you're not going to quench your thirst ever! In the restaurant and upstairs bar (the only other place you can get an all inclusive drink), all drinks, including the beer is served in wine glasses, so its treble the trips to the bar to even get your monies worth! Also, you can not drink the water in Egypt, but the hotel will not supply you with any (only in the little plastic cups), so be prepared to buy bottles of water for your room and to take out on trips or to the beach.

The pool looks nice and inviting from afar, but up close the water is cloudy and dirty. Beside the pool you will find lists of do's and do not's of which ever rule was broken at least 2-3 times (cats and dogs swimming in the pool, proper attire was not worn etc etc), so we headed to the sanctuary of the beach ever day. The beach for me was the best place to be. After you pass the 3-4 building sites and dirt roads to get there. It is not the safest, most appealing or clean place to walk through, so stick to the bus please!

As I always say your holiday is what you make it, and the staff and local business workers try their utmost to help with this, and where they can sometimes be a little annoying and persistent, they will break their backs to try and do anything for you, which is quite endearing. I found most Egyptian people to be this way, which is an admirable quality.

We were moved rooms during our stay, and both were not great, but they were comfortable. The air conditioning and the free safety deposit box was a god send. The standard of cleaning was quite poor, and stuff like curtains and tables were slightly broken. We also killed a few resident cockroaches. The room was livable, but again 2/3* quality.

The amphitheatre has been knocked down, and there is no entertainment for adults or children (the children's playground is on a building site). We were staying there during the World Cup, and the room TV channels for this were scrambled, pushing you to go to the 'pay only bar' to be able to watch it. So any activity or entertainment needs to be sought off the hotels complex.

I preferred Fantasia shopping area, which is 2 minutes from the hotel, as opposed to Naama Bay where there is a lot more hustle and bustle, but that's up to each individuals preference.

We went on 2 excursions through the tour rep. The jeep safari, and a visit to Ras Mohamed national park, and both my partner and I really enjoyed both, and we would recommend them. We also went scuba diving with the Coral Beach Club at the beach, which was fantastic, and we would recommend this too. The highlight of the whole holiday was the ocean and its snorkeling. It's absolutely unbeatable. Buy a snorkel before you go. It's well worth it!

I would return to Egypt again because the country has a lot to offer, and the people are really nice too, but I would avoid the Grand Sharm Resort and its sister complex, the Mexicana, as you will not get what's advertised, and the hotel's lack of facilities is the only thing about Egypt that left the bitter taste in my mouth.

My overall opinion is not to choose this hotel for your stay, especially as all inclusive. It's not worth it. You will be disappointed, as were my partner and I. I could go into a lot more depth about other faults, but I have just given you a synopsis of the main issues that you should look for in your hotel. I know that there were many people during our stay that let it ruin their whole holiday, and they are raising it with their tour operators on their return.

Nikkigh's Response to nikkigh's Review

Written on: 29/08/2006

Hi,
You wanted more information on the creative grand sharm resort, if I am to be perfectly honest this is not the greatest accommodation to be sought in Sharm el Sheikh, the All Inclusive is not All Inclusive-only when it suits them and there is no entertainment whatsoever! Everything in the hotel shuts down around 11pm for All Inclu and paying on the spot customers are treated better. you are quite a way out from the main town centre and although the hotel provides a shuttle, this gets really packed with people trying to escape for a couple of hours that you have to queue for an hour to ensure you get a seat! Food and drinks are dyer and very repetitive, but the staff seem quite pleasant and jovial, beware of the pool as I am an ex lifeguard and this is nowhere near maintained properly and stomach bugs that sweep the hotel I can assure you come from here. The surrounds to the hotel are like rubble-lots of building work going on but the beach is a good haven away from it all albeit you have to pass some dodgy dwellings to get there. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, but its the worst hotel I have stayed in period- I have been to turkey, greece, spain, dominican to name but a few-I would definitly visit eygpt again as the country itself is beautiful but i would stay clear of creative grand hotels.
Sorry I could not be more upbeat, but honesty is the best policy.
Nicole.

“The food was disgusting. The reception staff could not...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by kyjco on 08/07/2006

The food was disgusting. The reception staff could not speak English (you would expect the staff with the ability to speak most languages pretty well would be on reception). One of the male receptionists actually told me to shut my mouth when I demanded I wanted 2 speak to the manager. The all inclusive is the biggest let down ever. The drinks stop at 11pm - you get your drinks in plastic disposable cups which they re-use, and in the upstairs bar they use tiny wine glasses for everything, so there were men sipping their 0.25 of a pint of beer out of a wine glass. The food was exactly the same every day, and one day we even saw a sheep tied up outside the kitchen. If you are all inclusive, don't expect any service whatsoever. There was a table of 7 of us one night, and the waiter refused to get us drinks as we were all inclusive, although there must have been about 15 waiting on staff wandering around aimlessly.

The pool was okay, but towards the end of the day there was a ring of scum around the edges. I was also told I couldn't wear a t-shirt in the pool (I'd burned my shoulders), but then when I pointed out that there were fully clothed Egyptian women (imagine they'd been wearing it all day in 40+ degrees, then getting in the pool with you... Disgusting), he just said it was because they were Arabic, and it was allowed, which I thought was incredibly unfair!

The rooms were fine, but they didn't get cleaned until after 5pm some nights, and there was always a cleaner knocking on the door around 8-9am wanting to know how many were in the room, which was very annoying.

At the pool bar you had to pay for the food, even though we were all inclusive. In the end, we ended up eating out every night to avoid being ill. It was very cheap to eat out, especially in Columbus (5 minute walk) and Naama bay (taxi ride), but you don't expect to have to pay for extra meals when you're all inclusive. Also, the taxi driver tried to rip us off. We also had to pay 30 L.E to play pool for one hour, although it did start at 60 L.E, but we refused so they dropped the price, and the manager told me a few days later that the set price was actually only 30 L.E, so even the staff were out for a bit of cash for their pockets. Also, the shop on-site had two prices for everything; Egyptian and another nationality, which was very annoying.

The men were very forward, and the massage man at the poolside had to be changed to a female because he'd put his hands up a ladies bikini when giving her a massage.

The Grand Sharm Resort is terrible. I'd definitely go back to Egypt, but i'd stay somewhere in Naama bay (the Jolly Ville Hotel is supposed to be great), or the hotel behind the Creative Grand Sharm, which was called the Iberotel or something. Also, there was no entertainment at all. The reception was tiny, even the bank on-site charged ridiculous exchange rates. I reported all of this whilst staying at the hotel, but they refused to make an official report. I even tried to get an early flight home it was that bad!

“I'm sorry if you have recently booked to stay at the...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Maverick121 on 27/06/2006

I'm sorry if you have recently booked to stay at the Creative Grand Sharm Resort in Sharm el Sheikh, but I feel it is my duty to give an honest review. I suppose your opinion of this resort really depends on what you are used to. However, for me, this hotel didn't really offer the sort of holiday that I consider to be a stress free relaxing holiday.

The room we had was a disgrace. We had no hot water for three days, despite asking three times to have this fixed. The bathroom was falling apart, and the toilet smelled of urine. This room was spacious, and it was obviously meant to cater for guests staying on a self-catering basis, as we had a hob in our room, and we were staying on an all inclusive basis. Upon inspection of where it was to be plugged in, the socket was black from some sort of electrical fault. I didn't touch it.

Moving on. The all inclusive is very very limited. You get breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, for the lunch you must go to the restaurant, as the food from the pool bar is not part of the all inclusive. Drinks are served from the pool bar. However, they are served ONLY from plastic cups. In the evening you have to go to the "upstairs Bar" (which is exactly what it says, upstairs) to get a free drink. This is quite nice. The food; well, it's traditional Egyptian, meat/fish and rice dishes. One night you had the option of five different sorts of fish, and not being a fish lover, I had rice that night.

To get to the beach you have to walk with no shelter from the sun for approximately 15 minutes via another hotel, which is part of the same chain, which is 5*. However, do not linger for too long or you will be escorted off the premises! My wife and I were of the impression after speaking with other holiday makers that we could use the facilities of the other resort, which I must say is beautiful. We asked the security guard at the front gate if we could use the pool, and I think because of his limited English, he said yes. A few hours later we were asked to leave. The beach, or should I say rocky area, is accessed after walking through the beautiful 5* hotel. You see the nice part that belongs to the 5* resort, and as soon as the guards notice that you are from Creative Grand Sharm, by your bright green wrist band, you are quickly escorted to, well, to be quite honest, the awful part of the beach.

Soft drinks are served at the beach bar only as part of all inclusive, and anything alcoholic you have to pay for. Did I mention all inclusive ends at 11pm? which is conveniently just about the time that the burning sun has gone down, you have eaten your dinner and fancy a relaxing drink. However, there is another bar, which of course charges similar to London prices, ie. £2.50 for a bottle of beer, and they try and palm you off with the cheap stuff. After speaking with an Egyptian from Narma Bay, the local town, he said that he wouldn't advise anyone to go all inclusive in any Egyptian resort, because once the hoteliers have your money they couldn't really care less about you. Apparently this is the same for the Hilton (so I am told). He also said to ensure that any hotel ratings are allocated by your tour operator, because most hotels are rated by the managers of the hotels themselves, obviously giving a false indication of the level of luxury.

Just a few minor points to add, not necessarily to do with the resort, but there are no Egyptian Women in Sharm el Sheikh!! All men everywhere, and they love to stare and offer Husbands camels for your wife. Nearly everyone is out to take as much money from you as possible, especially the cab drivers, so fix a price before you get in, and don't let them make suggestions as to where different you can go without agreeing a price first. We got stung big time. They will try to short change you, especially in the local amenity store, so just be careful.

To sum everything up. Before we left, we asked if we could keep our room later because our flight was leaving late. We asked because we hadn't had hot water for three days that they waive the £15 charge, and after having to consult the manager they agreed on the condition that we sign a waiver saying that we come back again, and that we really enjoyed the resort. I wrote the disclaimer, but signed it Mickey Mouse.

I'm sorry if you have booked this, but this place is okay if you go self catering and you get a decent room, but don't expect any sort of service from this place. It's literally a bed and a reasonable pool.

“First and foremost there are TWO Grand Sharm Resorts...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by gforse on 06/10/2005

First and foremost there are TWO Grand Sharm Resorts in Sharm el Sheikh. The XXX Grand Sharm, and the "Creative" Grand Sharm. Now if you make the same mistake I did and book through a tour company like Travel Bargains, you will get their bargain, and your misery. I actually asked the salesman if this was a 4 star on the beach, and he assured me it was. Well, it wasn't. It was the "Grand Sharm" that is off a transit road, stuck approximately one mile behind the REAL Grand Sharm (which really did look like a nice hotel).

The first clue when arriving at night was the drop off in the driveway of what looked like a roadside travel lodge.
The lobby was the second clue for the guest to go "Oh no!" It is a tiny room off of the driveway. Third was the ridiculous exchange rate the hotel offered. 76 cents worse than the real exchange rate.

The first night we arrived at about 9pm, and the room still wasn't cleaned. They were friendly enough, but when we went for dinner the only open restaurant was either the very overpriced and underwhelming buffet, or their tellingly abandoned outdoor caf . We tried it and the food was disgusting. I ordered a Rum and Coke. The waiter reported they didn't have Rum, but they had Bacardi! He brought a can of Coke and a glass with approximately 1cm of Rum. I objected, and they said any more would be a "double". I surrendered and said to leave it alone. When the bill came and I was charged 9 USD for the joke of a drink I was shocked.

Having been to Egypt before I knew that you could get ripped off at any and every turn, and that you have to be careful, but drinks are genuinely expensive here. I tried to make the best of it, but the next morning when I got up and headed for the beach and learned you had to take a bus to get to the beach (which is really the REAL Grand Sharm resorts beach) I realized I could not stay here.

The only decent thing was that the pool was OK.

After a conversation with a VERY inflexible Thomas Cook representative, I was left with a decision. So I relocated myself to the Jolle Villa Movenpick in Sharm Na'am Bay. A GREAT hotel well worth the few extra dollars!
If you want to save a few dollars, arrange a bargain flight, but SELF arrange at a KNOWN good hotel.

The staff who cleaned the rooms I could not fault, nearly everybody you spoke to in the Creative Grand Sharm Resort had been sick. I myself for 2 days, give this hotel a miss as we went all inclusive if you were willing to pay for your food at the pool bar you got good food other wise don't eat anything.
If you payed for a beer you got a cold one, if all inc you got a warm can of beer.

“Sharm el sheikh, Creative Grand Sharm Resort - I would...”

Sharm el sheikh, Creative Grand Sharm Resort - I would advise that if you do visit the hotel that you take plenty of medication with you from the UK for a poorly stomach, as you are guranteed to get one! Medication is available but at a cost, a lot more expensive than the UK. Me and my boyfriend overall had a bad experience of Egypt and have decided not to return. The country itself is beautiful and the Rea Sea was also very nice, but unfortunately they have milked tourism.
