“DO NOT BUY”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 01/02/2015

Bought brand new Nissan Micra automatic in early 2014. Within a month, problems started....... radio and electrics failing repeatedly, accompanied by dreadful noise from engine leading to over-heating, burning smell, then smoke belching out. It required, within three months, a new starter and ignition switch and radio. The service, care, sympathy, and competence of the staff at the showroom/garage was abysmal and in the realms of ignorance. The mechanic trying to code my radio actually laughed to me he didn't know how to do it. This 'rebuild' of car did not rectify the problems. They recurred. To cut a very long, stressful story short - the car got replaced in August. I was given another identical Micra. Identical indeed - the same issues arose. Exactly the same. Plus, the replacement car had an extra problem of the back window winding itself down on a regular basis. This car now requires a new starter and ignition switch. Amazingly, the extremely large Scottish showroom expects me to accept this car back with gratitude. Do not under any circumstance subject yourself to a Nissan Micra automatic. It is a dangerous vehicle. These vehicles should be taken off the market.

“A Big Dissapointment - Worst Nissan Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by rahulnissan2012 on 27/04/2012

"My experience with Nissan Micra has been horrible... My car has a technical glitch and has gone to the service center 6 times in last 1 year with NO respite from the dealership. The nissan website does not work and one cannot submit a complaint. There is NO phone number to register a complaint. Nath Nissan, the dealerships' reassurance has NO value. The major fault is not with the products but the Nissan Services is a big failure, since they have no concern with the problems of the customers, how serious it may be. Thus the car keeps on visiting there workshop but the defects remain and ultimately the customer is the one who suffers.” HOW DO I REACH THE PEOPLE WHO CAN TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION !!!! NISSAN SUPPORT IN INDIA PRACTICALLY DOES NOT EXIST. HOW CAN JAPANESE AFFORD SUCH A BAD REPUTATION??? Nissan Micra Number: DL 3C BV 0761 Chasis No: MDHFBUK13AA004413"

Totally agree with your comments. They don't like it when you have problems and seem unable to fix them. Shame as they are really good cars.

“Nissan micra 1.2 emergency key”

★★☆☆☆

written by SCREWDRIVER on 22/03/2012

The first time I needed to use,the emergency key for the first time, the door would not open, had to get the garage mechanics out to jump start the starter motor under the engine to use key electronicaly to open door to get under bonnet to fit the new battery.HAD THE CAR FROM NEW 6 YEARS AGO AND THIS HAD NOT BEEN CHECKED AT NISSAN ON THEIR SERVICE WARRANTY AS A SAFETY CHECK IT IS NEVER CHECKED ON ANY CAR. NISSAN DO NOT WANT TO KNOW AND I FEEL THIS IS HOW THE DOOR LOCK LEFT THE FACTORY. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SAFETY.

“Good first car, easy to drive”

★★★☆☆

written by westjustine08 on 17/07/2011

I have owned my Micra for 3.5 years now and have rarely had any problems with it. Having previously owned an old shape V reg Micra I knew that it would be a reliable car and easy to drive. It is good as a first car as it is easy to control and runs smoothly. I have a 1.2 S, which doesn not include alloys or any of the mod cons which the Urbis and Sport models offer. The dashboard and console setup is very basic (it's not really a gadget kind of car). But compared to the 1.0 you will find that this car is a lot more nippy and can reach high speeds quite quickly. Only the odd one or two bad points to the car that don't really make a huge impact on the standard of it are: - Without air con you will find that the car gets very warm in the summer months. The new shaped Micras don't have a sun roof either! - The gears are quite stiff to begin with and the clutch is quite low on the new shape compared to the old shape. - If it is a particularly windy day the car does blow around quite a lot and you can't take corners too quickly as the car feels like it is tilting. Overall, a friendly, easy to use and reliable little car. Suitable for 1st cars or a low cost run around.

“This car is brilliant. I read many reviews about this...”

★★★★★

written by on 05/05/2010

This car is brilliant. I read many reviews about this car before deciding on it. There was a mixture of reviews and i began to feel nervous about my decision. However, a family member has the older shaped Micra and has always said how much she loved it. Micra's do have a reputation for reliability and so i decided to go for it. I am so glad i did. I got a fantastic deal. £4,295 for a Micra 06 Urbis 5dr 22,000 miles. The Urbis comes with aircon and parking sensors which are a great added extra. Inside the car, i have found it to be very spacious. I have made my boyfriend (around 5 foot 10) to sit in both the front and back of the car to check height room and he said it was great. I have actually had a full car of men this size and there was never an issue of room. There are a lot of little cubby holes throughout the car. For example, above the CD player, there is a drawer for your CD's, there is a takeaway hook by the passenger foot-well, there is a coin drawer and 4 cup holders (the 2 cup holders for the front seats also has a sunglasses tray!) There are switches by the drivers legs to open the boot and petrol cap which i have found to be great as you are not fumbling around with keys in the rain. In terms of boot size, i dont think it is particularly small although if this were the main family car and you had small children, it think it could be a bit of an issue. I would think you could get your buggy in their and a few bags, but i dont think it would be any good if you will need to be taking a lot of luggage with you (on holiday or something). However, i do think it would be a brilliant second family car. The car itself has a very sturdy feel and i feel very safe in her. I have driven around all week and havent even spent £10 in terms of fuel yet. This is incredible because in my previous car, i would have spent at lest double this. I have been in her none stop! If you are looking for something cheap to run, i would definitely consider this particular car. Car tax is about £125 per year, and i think i paid about £400 for fully comprehensive car insurance (i am 23 so my insurance is a little higher than if you are older than 25. However, this is with 6years no claims bonus). So all in all, i would say this car is a bargain. There seems to be some really good deals about in terms of simply buying the car and i believe the upkeep costs (tax, insurance, petrol etc) is relatively cheap too. I think if you were to test drive one, you will get a very good feeling from the car. The second i test drove the car i ended up buying, i felt very confident in my decision. She is everything i always wanted and am very very pleased i listed to the good rather than the bad online reviews!

I found this review very helpful because so many reviewers come to review a car because they've had a negative experience. You will never buy a car if your decision is based solely on reviews cos every car has a down side.
<br/>
<br/>So this review is making me think - I am due to get this car at the weekend, lets hope I don't come back here to give a bad review.

bought car as a private sale very stupid love the design find it very easy to drive ,but only had it for one week and the engine symbol came on took it to a garage, only to find I could be looking at £500 to replace the chain, although I love the car I think if I had looked at reviews I would have passed on the sale.If Ihad known about this problem and the cost I would not have a Nissan Micra sitting on my drive.

“This series/model of Micra ( K12 ) is absolute...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 21/02/2010

This series/model of Micra ( K12 ) is absolute rubbish. Mine is a top of the range 1.4 SVE model. It has had 3 different boot locks fitted, two under warranty and one I did my self. I have just forked out £800 for a new full timing chain kit to be fitted. Nissan main dealers want £1200 + at for this job. The car has only done 48,000 miles and been serviced according to the Nissan schedule. This timing chain issue is a really major problem with this series of Micra. Just post " Nissan Micra K12 timing chain problem " on Google to see the extent of this problem. Nissan should be ashamed of themselves and they should have recalled these cars and fitted a modified timing chain kit. I am a mechanic myself and know what i am talking about. We will never, not ever buy another Nissan again. I am going to start a forum online soon to build a log of this particular issue and then write to Nissan. However, knowing Nissan's reputation for customer care they will not even bother to reply as they did not reply to me when I first raised the issue with them.Perhaps a bit of bad publicity will make them take notice. *** Do not buy this model secondhand unless you check that the timing chain has been replaced as it is a costly repair ***

The handling of this car is great, makes it easy to park in tight spaces, very smooth on cornering, fun to drive. very fuel efficient. had some problems with the powersteering, but it was easily fixed by scanning and clearing the code error, nonetheless very nice car.

“I bought the Nissan Micra S as my first car with low...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 11/02/2010

I bought the Nissan Micra S as my first car with low running costs and cheap insurance in mind.

I owned a 1.2 S, which has got me from A-B however if you're taller like I am then you will find the ride uncomfortable on long journeys. There is little or no leg room in the rear, however i have managed to fit 5 people into it at a push. The boot slides forward for extra room, but really is very limited. The acceleration can be fairly slow as well, especially when trying to overtake on the motorway.

I had a few electrical faults including a major power steering failure, however this and the common crank shaft sensor failure were both fixed under warranty.

I have averaged about 300-350 miles per tank which is good as it includes a mixture of motorways and city driving. The car however does get affected by strong winds.

written by on 06/02/2010

Had several micras in the past and been delighted with them. My priorities are reliability and cheap running costs.
This new shaped 1.2 micra has been the worst car I have ever purchased. I have had major repair costs every year with the associated inconvenience of it being in the garage. The computerised " engine management" system is a nightmare, and dealers have you over a barrel with diagnostics.

“My mother had bought an ex demo Micra 1.2 s auto 03"...”

written by on 14/01/2010

My mother had bought an ex demo Micra 1.2 s auto 03" reg from New Way Nissan dealership Aldershot in 2003 it only had 1200 miles on clock, she still owns it now and only has covered 20000 miles since. so you could say it's hardly used, but she has kept up the service schedule up to date, but whilst she has owned it she had to replace the ignition lock twice, and now it has had 3 new batteries within 2 years and had another new battery 2 weeks ago but has gone dead again. Nissan used to be known for their outstanding reliability which is why she choose to buy a Micra, I think the worst thing that has happened to Nissan is when they were partnered with Renault. I going to make sure she trades this in soon to get something that has no French connection.

“This review is for a 5 door 58 plate 1.2 (80bhp)...”

★★★☆☆

written by Big Dave Midlands on 12/03/2009

This review is for a 5 door 58 plate 1.2 (80bhp) Acenta Automatic. I had this as a hire car for three weeks whilst my golf was being repaired following a minor prang, and I covered just less than 1000 miles during that time. I cannot comment on running costs like servicing and insurance but I can comment on what the vehicle is like to live with day to day and used in a variety of conditions including town commuting, motorway work, cross country and city driving.

I am not quite sure what Nissan were aiming for exterior styling wise with the Micra but in my opinion it misses the mark slightly. It tries to look like a happy little car but in my opinion ends up looking a little dumpy around the haunches and the headlights look like toads eyes, the tops of which can be seen from the driver ' s seat. The interior is pleasant enough but does not work as a cohesive whole, and is made up of a variety of textured grey plastics some of which look and feel a bit cheap, and leave the impression of being built to price, shame they didn ' t attempt some more flair here to match the outside.

Considering how tall the Micra looks there isn't as much room inside as I was expecting, and for me the seat didn't go down low enough, I felt very much like I was sat on the seats and not in them, and they offered little support in the bends. Some cars manage the trick of feeling bigger inside than the exterior suggests, the Micra is the reverse of this. The boot lid and front doors felt reasonably solid, but the rear door and bonnet felt very thin and closed with the sound effect of a dustbin lid. The clocks are quite small and garish in appearance, and the steering wheel only adjusts not up and down and not in and out so I felt a little bit hunched up to drive it.

To be fair to the little Nissan I am used to a 2 litre golf so it was never going to match up to that in terms of performance and handling, but all things considered it does well around town with the autobox working well, kicking up into top around 45mph, I also liked the old fashioned switchable overdrive button which gave the car a degree of useful engine braking when approaching traffic queues or roundabouts. On A roads and motorways the car does struggle to maintain a decent pace with meaningful acceleration dropping off after 55-60 mph and once cruising, the automatic box does tend to noisily kick down far too soon for only modest gains in mph, which has an obvious effect on mpg. Despite driving the car steadily I was never able to better 42mpg, which for a small car with a modern 16 valve 1.2 engine is very poor in my opinion. I regularly achieve close to this in my 2.0 golf with careful driving, so I can only assume this is the effect the auto box has on the engine and perhaps also the car had only covered approx 800 miles, so maybe it was still running in. However, the original mini with it's simple a-series engine and 4 speed gearbox was able to achieve better than this...

Handling wise the Micra was tidy and offered surprisingly high levels of confidence around the bends in most situations. The steering was light around town but retained some feel at speed, and the steering wheel mounted stereo controls were useful, but I never managed to figure out how the cruise control worked or what the benefit of the boy racer rear spoiler was.

In summary I would say the current generation Nissan Micra is fairly decent effort at a supermini, but it is the lack of quality touches here and there that let it down, especially when you consider the optimistically high full retail price of almost 10K. Up against more recent competition from Renault, Ford, Mazda and Fiat the Micra looks a little dated and feels like a product from a past era, its replacement cannot come soon enough.

had the Nissan Micra 1.2 S 8 weeks when we found there was a recall on the ignition swicth, had that repaired days later all the lights would not stop flashing took it to dealer who said the bcm unit had broke and would cost £400 to repair. the dealer put it down to being "a old car with high milage" ( its a 2003 with 59000) miles! after complaing to dealers head office they agreed to pay £157 they had the car over a week and still waiting for it to be fixed to say i'm impressed would be a lie!! when it works its a good car, good on petrol and specious inside
