Good Points: Good clear picture.
General comments: I have found the Philips DVD-R520H to be awkward and difficult. It has started to refuse to recognise most DVD discs.

Been back twice for freezing during recording. This is only with Program Delivery Control (PDC) which starts and stops the recording with the programme being recorded. Have updated firmware but still not working properly. One repair shop said don't use PDC. What an admission. Apart from no PDC its works well.

Had the Philips DVD-R520H for only a few days. I have had a Philips recorder in the past and that one refused to play MP3s although it said it would in the manual. This one did however, so thumbs up for a second or two. But I quiclky realized that I would never be happy with this one. To program a timer recording was a really frustrating process. I had to click the remote control for what seems to last a lifetime to finish the timer setup And often when I was done, the Philips just froze. Pressi ...

The Philips DVD-R520H worked well when I first bought it. Gradually it developed faults. Refusing blank discs-even own brand Philips. Often it would hold discs for checking compatibility until you pull the plug out. 30 mins or more. When it finally refused to copy from DVD to hard drive it wasn't possible to live with anymore. I returned it to MAKRO and waited for repair. I received a call saying Philips no longer had spares and I had a full refund. Try the LITE ON 160Gb (199hrs). Very si ...

First time, I want to set up my channel, naturaly I think about SmartLink to sync them out of my TV. No way.
After, I would like to set up the time source. No time source, you have to set it up manually and change it 2 times a year.
I'll stop here, usually, the recorder hang while recording, time shifting or simply when I'am using the remote control ...
PLEASE DONT BUY THIS DEVICE. THEY DONT HAVE (AT PHILIPS) WHAT I CALL A PROGRAMMER, IT'S AMAZING.

First of all when I opened the box i was missing the leads, the instructions were crumpled.
The on screen set up of the Philips DVDR520H is bad, also bad picture quality. You don't get line 1, 2, 3, 4, so it's not compatible with most other systems like motor satelite decoders.
As for the remote I got blisters on my fingers as you had to press it 20 times to work.
I took this back to comet and demanded my money back, then ordered a Sony 160 gb for £100 more.
