Bought to replace an earlier Dyson (Cylinder type) and specifically for carpets. Powered it up and it did exactly what it was supposed to do - suck the dirt, dust, grime and pet hairs right out of the carpet. It wasn't able to suck the dry paint splashes out however... that would have been a miracle! I am very pleased with this machine. (read more)

The Dyson DC14 is the absolute best vacuum I have ever owned or used. We have two dogs and two cats and it gets all the hair out of everything.
I vacuumed our ultra suede couch and it looked brand new. It took out a huge amount of minute dust particles. I couldn't believe how much!.
It is so easy to clean - Take the container off, hold it over the garbage can and press a button.
It is great for carpets, floors and upholstery. WIth the extra long telescoping rod, it is perfect for vacuuming...

We've had a Dyson DC14 for two years now and I notice they are now discontinuing the model. We bought pour to replace an ageing Miele Cat & Dog vacuum that we though was showing its age. Saddly, over the past two years the Dyson has been consistently outperformed by the Miele, even though that is nearly five years older. The Dyson does not pick up with anything like the ease or thoroughness that the Miele does. The wife likes the stylishness and ease of emptying and whilst it does pick up... (read more)

I bought the Dyson Animal vaccum cleaner nearly 10 years ago when I had two dogs and three cats. Obviously I needed a cleaner that could cope with the demands placed on it by the animals and this was recommended to me as being suitable. Well what can I say, 10 years down the line and it works as good as the day I bought it. It picks up pet hair, dander and dirt that you can't even see with the naked eye, my carpets are nearly all 100% wool and it has kept them looking as good as the day they... (read more)

i have had my Dyson animal for 4 years. it has been very dependable, i have not had 1 problem with it. recently i had a Kirby sales person show up to my door with there new model. against my better judgment i purchased the vacuum. after they left i started comparing the 2 and realized the suction on my Dyson was just as good after 4 years as the brand new Kirby. thank god i didn't trade it in like they wanted. i called them the next day and told them to come pick up there $1200.00 vacuum... We have had Dysons for quite a few years and am fed up with them, even more so after our latest: the Dyson DC14 SL-ANI Animal. Suction goes quickly, hose pipes split easily and they are far too heavy to lift up and down stairs. Constantly having to clean ours out to get it working. Won't be buying another one! (read more)

Read reviews on Dysons (in general) and despite Dyson's reputation, I was a bit hesistant about spending £200 on vacuum cleaner. I have to say that after initial use I am very impressed. The carpets had been vacuumed only hours before with Electrolux vacuum (which this Dyson replaces because despite "cyclonic technology" it lost useful suction within about 18 months, despite frequently cleaning filters).
Also, with the turbobrush (no extended hose) I can cover 9 stairs, which I deem to be...

Dysons are the most fantastic cleaners. I have now purchased three. The other two are still going strong - a DC01 and a DC04 - I gave them to my children. I just cannot praise these cleaners enough. No other cleaners come anywhere near the cleaning power or ease of use. I can thoroughly recommend them and simply cannot understand anyone buying anything else. (read more)

Love it's suction and the long reaching telescope. Have had a DC01 for several years which had to be unclogged now and again I dare say this one will be the same but that's just a small price to pay for the powerful carpet cleaning. (read more)

Would be happier if maintenance & repair was easier for home owner. I would not mess with the electrics however one should not need to call out a service engineer (as advised but pricey) to replace beater /brush, or the hose between the swivel head and the body of the machine which
is now bound up with gaffer tape.
The attachement hose is easy to replace but is ca £20 and is vulnerable if care is not taken when replacing the handle inside it, or if using the turbo brush on the stairs at full...

I run a b&b and have dogs therefore my home must be spotless. I have had other Dysons but this one certainly does the job. It gets rid of unwanted hairs, is excellent on my spring cleaning regime for mattresses - scary what can be seen to come out. Also have Miele Animal but prefer to see the dirt in the bin and not in a bag so that I can get rid of it every couple of days. As I have 80/20 wool carpets throughout I am confident that a good job is being done. (read more)

This is the 3rd time I am returning this Dyson to Sam's Club. That means it has broken down 3 times in less than a year, and this last time, only after using it 3 times. It makes a horrible noise and it sounds like it will burn up. I read that this vacuum has a lot of issues so I made sure to buy it at Sam's as there is an open return policy (thank goodness when buying Dyson vacuums).
Please be careful when buying this vacuum that you can get a refund on return ...

Prior to buying this machine I read a number of reviews. The majority of them were not favourable. I contacted Dyson via E Mail on Saturday morning with a query regarding airwatts and was very surprised to receive a phone call with an answer to that query within 2 hours. A very helpful Dyson employee took me through the Dyson range and answered all my questions in a professional manner. Within 4 days I received a very professional and informative brochure outlining the Dyson Range.

Just wanted to say a quick word about Dysons and vacuum cleaners in general really. They all need maintenance, so for the people who say their cleaners don't even pick up small particles like hole punch paper, it's most probably due to a blockage. All cleaners get blocked at some time and need maintenance. Take all these personal reviews with a pinch of salt. Don't be put off by someone's negative comments. You never know, they maybe even working for a rival company!

I have gone through many vacuums and had to ditch them all ... the DYSON Pet vacuum has lasted me more than 4 years and we have had no problems. My daughter and I have long hair, and that is a problem, but only once after 4 years, did we have to clean the roller b/c hair got tangled ... that was not tough to do, the roller comes up easily, However, after it was cleaned, the suction was still great, if not better. Hoses split all the time. Motor burned out just as the guarantee did. Dyson say they were/are surprised, but they would not replace or assist. I ended up buying a new motor independently (and it's about to happen again). I am now in the market for alternative manufacturer.
The Dyson DC14 SL-ANI Animal vacuum cleaner was only used on an upstairs carpet once a week in a single household.

I bought this Dyson 18 months ago really because there was little else available that seemed any better. It doesn't seem to have any real strength of suction when used on carpets and, although it moves the surface bits and dog hair it makes little impression on the pile of the carpet and so the room does not look reassuringly hoovered. The hose is a bit of a pain in that you have to get the whole thing out even if it is to clean one corner and it is then a bit of a pain to get it all back... (read more)

My DC01 finally gave up after 8 years, so we replaced it with the Dyson Animal. It is a vast improvement on the earlier models, it is much easier to empty and the accesories are well arranged on the unit. The 1400w motor is very powerful and copes well with all that my two cats and two children leave behind. It even does a good job on the stairs and in the car. (read more)

I am extremely happy with my new Dyson DC14 SL-ANI Anima vacuum. It is the best vacuum I've had yet, and I've had, at one time or another, most of the major brand names out there. Before my Dyson, I had a Royal commercial vacuum cleaner, which was supposed to be one of the best and most powerful uprights available. But the Dyson is many times better than it was, plus the Dyson's attachments on the DC14 Animal are a snap to put on and use, and then go back to upright vacuuming again. I... (read more)

I did my search of Dyson user's reviews because I was trying to determine if the things I was having trouble with were unique to my Dyson DC14 SL-ANI Animal vacuum cleaner, or if maybe when the vacuum was used enough it would loosen up and not be as difficult to use. Other reviewers have had the same problem I am having.
I will be returning this vacuum as it is rather pricey.

I have had various other Dyson machines and never been completely satisfied, but this seemed to be the most suitable for our animals and heavy use house. I hate it, after 2 years (out of guarentee) there is no suction when used as an upright, brilliant with the turbo brush, but very hard work. The quality of the hoses is dreadful and this time the one under the machine has a hole in as well as the normal extension hose. Expensive to replace.

The Dyson DC14 SL-ANI Animal Vacuum cleaner takes a neat and seemingly simple concept, and morphs it into something complex. The plumbing is vast, the preventative maintenance a headache, and the ease of use really isn't.
We have had this machine for a year, and it has just been a mess. The top holes need constant cleaning, as well as the filter. I really think that in an attempt to justify the price, Dyson tried to make this thing more complicated than necessary. The funky cutting edge...

The Dyson DC14 SL-ANI Animal Vacuum cleaner is a nice concept, but a poor execution. The tools, hose, and moving parts all failed. They simply are not up to the job. Do not, under any circumstance, buy this vacuum. The very first time I used it, it destroyed my carpet. The carpet fibers got caught in the beater bar and great lengths of yarn were pulled from my carpet.
When I called Dyson, the could not have cared less. They told me not to use the carpet setting but, instead, to use the bare floor setting.
I asked if there manual had any warnings about this. They admitted it did not. They would not agree to pay to have my carpet repaired.

The brush bar is the only component on a hoover that could ever conceivably damage carpet. I think the problem must have been your carpet. Any hoover that got a loose thread tangled in the brush bar would do exactly the same thing. I can understand your frustration about the damage but don't think your review is representative.

I have owned my Dyson DC14 SL-ANI Animal for over 2 years now, it is my first one and I am not sure if I would buy another.
I bought it particularly for cleaning pet hairs and find that the hoover does a very good job of cleaning floors and carpets. The cylinder comes away from the hoover and re-attaches very smoothly and is simple to empty out.
However my main grumble is using the attachments. The wand must be dis-assembled by depressing a small 'button' on the wand arm and is a bit tough...

The design of the D Dyson DC14 SL-ANI Animal is immediately quite eye-catching, and will likely be a reason for wanting one. I found this review helpful because it stated that the cleaner was easy to useand sucked well which I need with six animals in the house. I have owned three Dysons before but they fall down on durability. Henry hound or Miele would be my choice for animal hair pick-up but both have bags and the Miele has a short lead.
