“The Wakefield gym is on its knees”

The Total Fitness gym in Wakefield is on its knees. The CV machines are falling apart with bits missing from them and the level of cleanliness on and around the CV machines seems to be none existent. There's a smell of drains from inside the mens changing room. They charge £40 a month for a gym that is in need of a refit and in need of management who care about the gym they're running. “Still bloody awful”

I visited the Hull branch yesterday having been a member years ago when the previous manager had run it to the ground. I only went for a swim but the building has become cold and tired. The main pool was freezing and dirty. The steam room looks like it's falling apart and the showers don't work properly I had to keep my hand on shower button the whole time. “Rude staff and expensive prices”

I have just joined total fitness as it the closest gym to me. However during my time there I have found some staff to be really rude and judgemental. They need better customer care training. I have found the way the speak to you is very down grading and unhelpfulful. They also offer very expensive 'offers' and do not cater for a very wide range of people. After reading some of these reviews I felt compelled to give an alternative opinion. I've been a member of TF for over 8 years with Altrincham being my nearest club. I've always been totally satisfied with the facilities, staff and cleanliness. The free weights section is great and they've just introduced a brand new serif dumbbells and plates for us to use. “"Total rip off don't go there"”

I was a member of Total Fitness Whitefield and the staff where very rude asking members for bank statements and Passports . I replied back to the manager that's personal information that doesn't concern you my bank details are private and confidential. There terms and conditions where so small you could bearly read them. I quit because the membership is too expensive £40 a Month + £5 for a membership card. Total Fitness more like Total rip off. (read more)

Totalfitness offers great facilities for the money in comparison to the likes of David Lloyd etc where else do you get that level of equipment and pools for 10 a week (read more)

“Chairman 'sacked'”

The chairman and his incapable cronies were sacked yesterday. The so called 'don' of turnaround business has failed and has subsequently been replaced by a real team of turnaround specialists. They will realise very soon that the failure of the whole company is down to the shocking middle management who have destroyed a viable company. Arrogance has cost this company dearly. Carrying on with the general theme - member at Total Fitness Huddersfield for almost 5 years, has certainly changed for the worse. Full of 16 year old kids in the free weights section, not only dangerous but annoying, facilities unclean, equipment maintenance non existent, exhorbitant prices, plenty incentives for new members but no rewards for long serving loyal customers? Absolute joke! The current manger is rude, obnoxious and can hardly string a sentence together! The membership team got me to join under false pretences! The definition of madness is doing the same thing time after time and expecting different results. I have joined 3 times over the last ten years and found myself tied into expensive contracts with a gym whose management does not give a s**t about their members. “Preston Total Fitness has incompetent staff”

Until about 3 years ago, the staff at the gym were all very good, recently however the staff seem to have no idea what they're doing. I personally think they've not had sufficient training. The problem I've been having is such as simple one to sort out, involving the squash court booking system. Since complaining about mis-bookings, double-bookings and the ridiculous amount of time it takes for the staff members to put a booking into their system, still nothing has been done about this (3... This company signed my daughter up and told her that if she wanted to leave for a very compelling reason,she is now abroad, it would not be a problem.They obviously will say anything verbally knowing full well that the average person is very trusting and will not bother to read the conditions.They are now chasing the percieved debt.I have offered them 2 months as a goodwill gesture without reply.I will update as and when things progress. “Don't waste your money! ”

This gym is the highest level of unprofessionalism I have ever encounted with a gym! Never have I felt like the perks I was paying for was worth it! When it's time to cancel you have to go thru all types of foolishness just to get it removed when it's only suppose to be a year contract! I would recommend this gym to NO one! I have been a member at the Wigan Total Fitness since 2001. At this time it was bar far an unrivalled gym chain. Unfortunately the gym has been in decline for sometime now. Faulty and outdated equipment, tired looking shower facilities, untidy weights area, decline in members and all this after promised investment a few years ago which has still not materialised. this used to be a good club and when I rejoined after a break of a few years I was advised that a new company had taken it over - not for the good! It is dirty and I am at the point where I daren't look at bottom of the pool when I'm swimming! I've seen cleaner outdoor pools. “staff jump from sinking ship ”

i have just cancelled my membersip, as i have paid for 7 years and got nothing from this company except excuses, the best thing was peter the spin instructor who i found today has left and gone to another competitior with four other staff not a good sign. I use the Total Fitness in Preston and sinec I joined it has gone rapidly down hill. Machines not working properly, machines and equipment out of order for weeks on end, and then they eventually disappear! Certainly one way of dealing with broken equipment. The cleaning is very poor, mirrors not cleaned for months, used chewing gum left on the floor, the toilets smell. The air cooling system is useless. Do not use - avoid like the plague. Equipment is outdated and most of it is not working with signs saying out of order. “Very Poor Customer Service”

My main concern about Total Fitness is the very poor customer service and the disinterest and attitude of staff when you are attempting to resolve an issue. Mine is a minor issue about my contract which is escalating into a bigger issue simply because of the unfriendly, unhelpful attitude of staff. I have never experienced such poor customer care before. I read all of these reviews and it is so sad to hear, I joined almost ten years ago when I was working in Chester, everything was clean and modern. The staff just let me get on with my workouts, which I prefer. It was all so clean and tidy the pools were great; I actually used to spend most of my evenings in there. “Who is the customer?”

Wilmslow was once a good quality flagship gym of the Total Fitness chain. The equipment is now old and very tired looking. In fact some equipment I was using was faulty and I managed to injure myself as a result. When I discussed this with the operations manager Steve Kear I found that he didn't listen, was off hand, aggressive and unprofessional. But with that increase I have seen no investment (which I was advised to expect with my last annual increment). Quite agree think prenton tf is the worst, staff are rude as are management especially the woman manager there trumped up and way above herself. Management seem to be more interested in running around after her and feeding her ego than interested in the gym and keeping things up to date. Save your money and go elsewhere

I joined TF in 2008 and found the price of £29.99 a month for a student very good compared to other gyms with the standards matching it's rivals. However by 2010 the standards were slipping and the TF in Crewe was becoming very bad. In recent months TF have lost there once high standards. The pool is cloudy and showers are dirty, I understand that they may need to cut costs but hygiene is something I'm not willing to risk. Unfriendly and uninterested staff. Everything is dirty. The indoor running track is good until the novelty wears off. Half of the members seem to know the staff and get better service. They also look like they are planning to steal the contents of your locker. The smell is wrong. The equipment is old. Just look at their website to see how poor the quality is. From the moment you stroll past the uninterested staff on reception you know you are in for a dismal experience. The lockers are shabby and the lower ones full of dust and hair. The equipment is so old and clapped out it is frankly a a joke. Simple things to put right like ab frames with the head rests ripped to shreds, machines not cleaned properly, machines not maintained. The equipment is old and poorly maintained. It takes literally months for anything to be repaired. The staff are clueless, they don't even know how to work the equipment. The men's changing rooms are dirty, they just hose down the toilet area, which smells, I have never seen any detergent being used. I can no longer justify paying the monthly fee and often come away from the gym angry as a third of the equipment is out of order or in poor state of repair. They deserve to go bankrupt. (read more)
“Lincoln - going downhill”

I have been a member of the gym for a few years and have found it is going downhill. Equipment are all old and new ones never been bought.. Changing rooms very good sized but showers not very hot water. Hand driers don't really work. No air conditioning so it is horrible in the summer for classes. No classes before work so only gym can be used. Lots of classes but ones I usually do have dropped so was going less. I have now joined a different gym that is allowing me to use any of their gyms... ALTRINCHAM BRANCH ================= Only half the (mens) showers are ever working at any one time. ALL showers and ALL toilets are broken at the moment because of a \"major problem\" and have been for at least 24 hours now. This last straw is why I'm writing this. Water fountains are invariably out of service, which is great when you are parched after a hard session and only discover this when you are desperate. I had a family membership there. The cleanliness of the changing rooms was poor and the shower facilities worce than a municipal baths from the 1970s. Complaints did no good. The free weights area was full of blokes in wife-beater vests admiring themselves in the mirrors and dropping their weights on the floor. TBH I'm glad it's closed as I won't have to renew my membership, I'll spend the money on a decent road bike instead. (read more)
“Total Dilapidation - Warrington”

I've been a member at Warrington for the past 3 years and during that time used the kids pool a lot with my boys as well as one of the evening classes. The past 12 months has seen a steady deterioration in the quality of the classes, the cleanliness and tempaerature of the pools (I took my kids out or TF swimming lessons as the large pool was just too cold) and the changing areas/toilets are nothing short of disgusting - Council run facilities are far better! Wrexham branch of Total Fitness closed its doors on Thursday September 22. No prior warning to staff or members. In fact, they still had the audacity to take on full memberships the night before they closed. That's Total Fitness for you! Wigan branch is rumoured to be the next venue to close. “PRENTON - WORSE THAN USELESS.”

Do not join Prenton, it will put you health in danger! Equipment is in disrepair, often has temporary out of order signs on for over 6 weeks. Weights are written on with tippex. Broken machines not always labelled as broken causing accidents to which health and safety procedures are not followed. Staff are scarce and the ones present are dishonest. “Heat is in short supply at Total Fitness Crewe!”

Joined TF some years ago as they have a hydro pool and I find its really useful for my arthritis. However, recently the temperature in the hydro pool, main pool and children's area dropped down suddently. The hydro water shoots no longer function properly and its actually cold in the 'hot' hydro pool. This is no use for me. Terrible, has continued to go down hill even after the takeover and promise of "substantial funds" has brought nothing other than a lick of paint to a few of the walls. Half the cardio equipment is on it's last legs and most of the free weights are missing or damaged. Some of the benches are even so bad they aren't even in a safe condition to use anymore. I myself have just joined Prenton but lucky me I can cancel my contract, 1st time I went the boiler had broken pool area freezing, have been and used the gym which is ok, but today thought I would go for a nice swim, use hydro pool etc well all I can say is that I was very disappointed pool water freezing, hydro pool Luke warm, showers warm and to top it off sauna not working in the ladies changing room.
