Good Points: Includes six tracks of sleazy rock 'n' roll punk.
Bad Points: Nothing original or indeed special about the CD. The music was alright, but does sound like a rather poor version of the Backyard Babies.
General comments: Psycho A Go-Go are an Aberdeen based rock 'n' roll four-piece with a very punky edge. Not dissimilar to the sound of 'Backyard Babies' and 'Hardcore Superstar', the group deliver this six track full frontal assault of racing guitar riffs and gritty punk vocals. Released in 2002 on the dedicated 'Changes One' record label, the CD is packaged nicely with a bunch of rock 'n' roll photos.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Born In Vegas
2. Sneakers And Creepers
3. I Love USA
4. Rockin' By Lunchtime
5. Rock 'n' Roll
6. Heartbreak City
The E.P. isn't the best produced offering from the independent record label, with a quieter and slightly more fuzzy recording than their usual offerings. Frontman Johnny A Go-Go's vocals are very gritty throughout, but his voice does get a little weak in places, which is a shame. Track four is a 'Quireboys' sounding duet with vocalist Mel Tischuk (Hardcore Mel), that screams a sleazy, rock 'n' roll, country track.
All in all, the six track E.P. isn't anything wholly original or indeed the only band producing this exact style of music. This isn't obviously a bad thing, but I couldn't help but think of a rather poor version of the Backyard Babies as I listened to them. The group are definitely worth keeping an eye on, as you can hear the band's potential building in their music.
