Never had such a rude and obnoxious experience with a call centre. The operator threatened to put the phone down on me, and just talked over me and would not let me speak. What a load of agro and then insisted and sending me 2 bills, each for 81 pence - to be fair I would pay 100 times this just to never have to deal with these people again. No service ethic at all. Atlantic used to have clear pricing, customer rewards and excellent customer service. NOT ANYMORE. Now they take whatever payments they like, when they like (even though we are in credit and have an "agreed" direct debit)with no notice. Phones are always engaged, emails ignored and oh, no rewards plus only one (expensive) plan available. Was good - now large, cold, uncaring and awful! I have been with this company for just over 7 years. In the past, the remotely operated switch (for white meter night-time heating and hot water) broke. It clearly said on it that it was the property of Scottish Power, not Atlantic (or Scottish Hydro - their parent company). First off, I contacted Atlantic. Avoid this Company like the plague. I have been a Customer twice in different properties, they do not manage their meter reader`s readings and even if you pay by direct debit they SHOCK you with an exorbitant like 2 years later. Been with Atlantic Gas Electricity (trading name of Scottish and Southern Energy) for 5 years now ,never had any problems with billing and they have always refunded any over payments every year. I usually get a customer loyalty free months gas electricity every January but they must have stopped this perk this year :(. Worst customer service I have ever encountered! After 3 normal gas bills they suddenly over-charged me by £1300. I contacted them when they first over-charged asking them to resolve the situation and stating I would pay the legitimate amount owed. I been their customer for 7 years, rang this organisation on 22 March 2012 to provide them with the meter reading for electricity and gas readings to provide me with an estimate amount due to pay. The bills were generated and the information provided by staff was inaccurate, doubt they can understand their own billing system. I have been with Atlantic E&G for almost three years. In March 2011, they stopped providing me with online bills despite constant email reminders from me and regular meter readings. In the last week, I have managed to secure bills covering the last 9 months on both electricity and gas. Coincidentally, in March 2011, my fixed price gas tariff came to an end. Been with Atlantic now for 3 years having changed from Scottish Power & British Gas previous . Ihave never had any problems with billing unlike other utility companies who have over-charged because of excessive over estimate of the amount gas and electric used by around £300-£400 . Wanted to switch to Atlantic from British Gas in order to save money on crippling winter bills, got a good deal from a price comparison website in January. Skip forward to March... still no service or initial bill from Atlantic. So after much prodding and emailing on my part (I'm a potential customer, why aren't THEY begging me for my money?) they explained it would take "6 weeks" to switch, despite it already being 2 months since I requested a new account!

Was so refreshing to get straight through and receive efficient help from an intelligent, helpful and enthusiastic British person who resolved an unusual query and explained it clearly to me. On 12/11/2010 I applied on line through "energyhelpline.com" for Atlantic to supply me with dual fuel.
Over 5 weeks later & I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATIONS FROM ATLANTIC WHAT SO EVER.
Yet I was advised on 3/12/2010 by my present provider (e-on) that the change over date is in 2 days time. (22/12/2010) what a shame Atlantic could not tell me this !
2 e-mails later..no reply from Atlantic as to what is happening.

Atlantic recently wrote to me with their price increases so I went on a few comparison websites which all came up with big savings by switching to First:Utility. It's a hassle to switch suppliers so I rang Atlantic to check if there were any better deals they could offer. Southern Electric, of which Atlantic are a division, have an on-line tariff called 'Go Direct' (which they don't advertise!). So they have moved me on to that, saving me around 20% annually. I have encountered many problems with this organisation, particularly with regard to billing and meter readings. The level of competence of the staff is appalling. Communication is terrible, very much 'computer says no' institution. Cannot deal with problems or complications. The Office of Fair Trading should investigate their operation.

Atlantic are like a breath of fresh air in today's world of Call Centres where far too often problems aren't resolved first time. I have been a customer of theirs for nearly 2 years and have nothing but good things to say about them. They even sorted out an ongoing problem I had with British Gas which had prompted me to switch in the first place. I pay standing charge of £45 a month, so my annual bill is about £540.
I am now £719 in credit and they have not offered a refund or suggested that my monthly payments should be reduced. I think Atlantic Electric and Gas should do that automatically and not wait for me to ask for it. Meanwhile that have my money in their bank account!… Read Full Review
