Good Points: Expandable memory sticks Firewire port DV in/out Good battery life(without LCD)
Bad Points: Photo quality Night modes a joke
General comments: Had a Sony DCR-HC40ES for about 6 months now and it is good for first time camcorder users but having now used it sufficiently, I'm sorry to say it is not worth buying the HC40 when you can buy the cheaper models. The megapixel CCD is nothing more than a advert slogan the quality in outdoor conditions is good but as soon as you go indoors, the picture gets blurry and poor quality not what sony camcorders are about. The functions like manual focus can only be accessed through touchng the LCD screen and when recording it tends to come up on the audio everytime you touch the screen. I wouldn't recommend this to any camcorder hobbist as the quality when editing it on the PC is not what I expected before I ordered it.
