Good Points: paid up no quibbles for lost items on way to holiday worth £600 plus
Bad Points: none
General comments: Had been with Halifax home insurance for 6 years. When I finally claimed there were no questions asked, small print get outs or paper work hell. Awesome.

I feel the negative reviews are totally unfair. I lost my phone and glasses and some cash on the way to the airport. I just rang up and within five minutes the refund was processed through to my bank account. No quibbles as I was covered under the Personal Belongings Protection. (I had been a customer for 6 years and never claimed however).

The channel that runs down the roof sprung a leak, called emergency 24 cover they sent someone out the next day but he was a decorator and thought he'd been sent to look at a flat roof, 2 days later on a sunday someone from the same company came at 5pm and said it was too late to look at it but got us to sign to say they had been. On the Monday someone else from another roof company came and actually went on the roof and did a temp patch, said they would be back in a few days, today thursday a s ...

We had our shed broken into 3 times in 1 week. Approx £1000 worth of goods stolen.
Halifax use a company called Aquilo to validate your claim. Every time I phoned them it was like an interrogation and they made ME feel like a criminal.
They said they can not pay out unless:
a) I had receipts - yeah right, who keeps receipts?
b) I had manuals - they were in a toolbox in the shed (stolen)
c) They asked if I had any photographs of my husband using the equipment - WHAT??????
I would advis ...

My house got flooded in June 07 and we have been forgotten about, messed about and have still not been fixed and we are now in march 08. We have also had to cancel the builders that Halifax set up for us as they also have messed us about as they came on 17th September 07 and ripped everything out ie kitchen, doors, door frames and 2 ft of plaster off all downstairs walls and that is how we have been left and have now had to sort our own builders out who will hopefully sort things out quicker and ...

A really inferior and inadequate product. 'A service to rely on if things go wrong', certainly this is not our experience. If friends tell you its a good deal ask them if they have tried making a claim. Only look at reviews from the people who have made claims.

Halifax are definitely an excellent company. They provide excellent customer service when you do speak to them and the offer of freezing your costs is excellent. They have provided me with an very competitive quote which I feel confident about securing for 2 years at the same rate. I have recommended this service to a number of my friends.

Premium kept rising despite no claims for over 5 years. When I asked them to address the rising cost and compete with others, they told me to go somewhere else. Quick to pick up the phone. Never claimed so can't comment further

A neighbour crashed his car into our next door (semi-detached) neighbour's front wall. This has affected our wall, which as a consequence is visibly bent/warped. Halifax have been dragging their pencils over this claim since 2 Feb 2007. Nothing has been done except them sending an assessor who 'apparently' reported that there was no damage to the property. The surveyor who assessed next door's damage, correctly determined that the whole of the front of both properties will have to come down to f ...

On November 29, 2005, we suffered a house fire during the installation of a new flat roof. As the work was apparently subcontracted, the main contractors stated that the subcontractors' insurers would be responsible for any resulting claim. However, it transpired that the fire was caused by actions not covered in their policy. With Christmas fast approaching, the main contractors showed little concern or sympathy for our plight and indeed demonstrated a marked reluctance to acknowledge due respo ...

After having my mortgage with the Halifax for 16 years, and my building and contents insurance for the last 6 years. We had a smell in our hallway coming from under the floorboards (maybe a mouse?) after phoning Halifax to see if we were covered because all our floors were tiled to get under the floor we would have to smash up the floor tiles. They informed us that we were not covered for vermin. How can they justify paying someone out for leaving the bath running and flooding there house wh ...

We would never recommend Halifax Home Insurance to anyone, they provide promises to give you answers by a certain date and never do.
Their own employee have even advised us to get a Solicitor onto them to speed the process up. He has confirmed this on tape.
We have not even had a small payment towards our contents - NIL to date. We had to purchase all our own clothes as they were all burnt in the fire. They have not helped whatsoever they have made our lives hell.
The way this company ...

Have now been waiting over 100 days for Halifax to repair a little water damage to my kitchen. Made the claim on 2nd December 06, now 13th March 07, and nothing has been done. Case has been passed from one subcontractor to the next, all of them difficult to get hold of. Halifax not at all interested in managing their suppliers, so up to the customer (me) to chase up builders, loss adjusters, etc, who are completely unaccountable. Intensely frustrating experience. To top it all off I still have t ...

My roof was badly damaged in the recent storms and after leaving a message (because they were inundated with calls and had switched to an automated claim line) I had to get a temporary roof cover to protect the rest of the property. I tried again the following day. Managed to speak to someone (after 17 times of telephoning) who said that they would send a surveyor- he came 6 days later and said that he would e-mail the report back immediately. Contacted Halifax every day for 5 days - still no re ...

My wife logged a claim for a couple of items that were damaged by accident, and all appeared to be well.
After a few days they told me that they had appointed a company called I T Solutions (Leeds) to inspect the equipment. They said that they needed to collect the equipment to decide if the equipment was to be repaired or replaced. They arranged two collections, and both times their courier did not turn up. After wasting two days I rang the I T Solutions, and they said on both occasions the d ...

After insuring both my contents and building with Halifax for the last 6 years, I was shocked at my renewal price. Never having made a claim, my insurance policy more than triplied this year. After a phone call I was still not able to get the policy down enough. I was able to get a price comparison, and I found that Halifax still came in the cheapest if I went online.
Trying this approach was easier than expected, and soon I was able to purchase my policy. I did notice though, that as standa ...

Having taken the Legal expenses option many years ago, this proved invaluable when I found myself in dispute with an ex-employer, as the access to an expert who helped resolve the matter, was greatly appreciated at the time, and fully covered within the policy.
Like one of the other reviewers, I have been with the Halifax for many years, and I have only made one small home insurance claim (stolen bike) in addition to the legal help. My annual premium is now almost £500, and after a brie ...

The time has come for me to renew my house/contents insurance, and up to now, even though it did seem a trifle expensive, I've assumed that I was getting a good deal from Halifax home insurance. However, this year I decided to have a look around. Wow! Halifax were asking for nearly £600 for home and contents insurance (even though I've been with them for nearly 20 years now and only made one small claim some 15 years ago). This price included 40% no-claims discount. My look around the ...

Halifax Home Insurance have no 24 hour emergency cover available! They actually faxed a plumber at 00:15; they faxed, not phoned - faxed!! I had a blockage between the shower and the sink. It seemed to clear, but underneath the floor and part of the ceiling collapsed. Halifax are doing everything in their power to leave it to us to fix. Words like wear and tear, the plumber says it might have been caused by a seal going in the down pipe, therefore it's wear and tear and you're not covered. Why a ...

The main problem with Halifax home insurance seems to be the sub-contractors who cause delays and frustrations. My claim has been passed, but after more than one year, I am still waiting for the sub-contractor to finish the work. At the end of the day the responsibility lies with HALIFAX.
