I was insured with Halifax for over 12 years without any claims being made. When I did make a claim this year for a roof repair this was refused because the estimate I received for the repairs did not have the builder's VAT number on it. I was told they would not deal with the claim without this. I subsequently cancelled my policy and am now with a reputable Insurance Company. (read more)

I suspect that most people only post about companies when they're complaining, not when things go well. I've been with Halifax for 8 years and have found them to be really good when I needed them. I used the Home Emergency cover once for a leak and had someone come round to fix it within 4 hours, I was a very happy bunny! I then had an issue with a neighbour's tree roots causing subsidence to my house - Halifax were very efficient in sending them a letter warning them to put it right,... (read more)

At the end of January 2013 our Garage Roof Collapsed under over 10 inches of snow. We checked and this was covered under our insurance so we rang them immediately to report it as a matter of urgency. The garage roof was made of asbestos so we were worried for the safety of our neighbours and ourselves. Nearly 3 months on, and this still hasn't be rectified. We have been continually passed from different departments who don't seem to know what on earth they are doing. The various... (read more)

My experience was very good indeed. My heating and hot water stopped working. Have had home insurance contents and buildings insurance with Halifax for a number of years. My Ultimate Reward Account comes with travel insurance which is totally separate. I recently had to make a claim on that. SO was very surprised to find that Home Insurance policy was increased because of the travel claim, (which was as result of a freak accident)! My old mums(72) heating broke down in July 2010. Her tried and trusted heating engineer could not fix it but diagnosed a "board change" in the electronics. I've just changed home insurance for the same reason...for an expensive house insurance, but thinking I actually could be paying for a better service, when i approached Halifax about roof and ceiling damage they gave me some chat about wind speeds and amount of rain fall...considering the damage was done when weather forecasters were giving wind warnings out, the Halifax needed us to be in hurricaine season weather before payout...well my thoughts on the matter, I've lived here 30years, I've used my home insurance 3 times, I've moved to a much cheaper insurance because I need it to co-inside with my mortgage..and at least now the spare money can be used to fix things when I'm turn down by any insurance!!
