“APPALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/12/2012

I bought a well known brand DVD Video recorder from Dixons on-line September 2011 and it developed a fault 9 months later - June 2012. I emailed Dixons.co.uk and their KnowHow team responded by stating that I should deal with the manufacturer directly, as they (an electrical retail group?) can not repair this brand. I pointed out that as the ‘contract of sale’ was with Dixons, they should deal with it on my behalf. Dixons were not willing to get actively involved, so I wrote to them and requested a refund as the faulty DVD Video was within the 12 month warranty period. Dixons/KnowHow offered a partial refund of less than 2/3rds that I paid and this was to be in Dixon Group vouchers. I complained, stating that the Sale of Goods Act entitles me to a refund in full and this was to be in cash – not vouchers, and that Dixons failed to take responsibility, from the outset by requesting that I deal direct with the manufacturer. I offered to get an independent engineer’s report, to prove that the goods were faulty and ‘not fit for purpose’, but Dixons/KnowHow declined my right, which meant that I would have had to pay for it. After several emails, eventually I threatened them with legal action; served formal letters – recorded delivery; requested name/contact details of KnowHow customer services manager; etc – all to no avail. Very frustrating and extremely poor customer service, delivered by staff ignorant to the basics of consumer protection laws, such as the Sale of Goods Act 1979. Will never buy from Dixons Retail or their group (Currys, PC World) again as all complaints involve the KnowHow team, who quite frankly know very little – except how to lose custom.

Bought freezer rang on day of delivery after time had been confirmed that product damaged won't be one for weeks. Went into the store to ask if could provide same model different color same price - apparently could not wavier 40 pound difference despite explaining lost our freezer contents in the meantime. Had ordered tumble dryer around same time. Arrived unpacked noted crack under the protective plastic along edge. Asked for replacement - they sent a complaint letter to know how contianing lies about that we claimed delivery men had lied about condition and been forced to sign. New one arrived broken completely. Further multiple phone calls. Still don't have money back > 1 week after both taken away for a refund after 3 further phone calls. They have no idea about customer services - be going the way of comet soon i think if continue this not even could say prices are that good to make up for it. every phone call put on hold for 10 minutes assume for money or its so complex to just process a refund compared to taking your money.

“A TRULY BAD EXPERIENCE”

I bought a well known brand dvd video recorder on-line, which became faulty after 9 months. Made contact with them through their Knowhow -Currys, PC World - team and told that they do not carry out repairs on this item and I that I should deal directly with manufacturer. Dixons Group would not accept any responsibility for fault and eventually offered partial refund, by way of vouchers - completely against consumer protection legislation which states that refunds must be cash. The KnowHow staff that I have had correspondance with have no concept of customer care and stopped responding to my mail. I have had a 3 month struggle with Dixons Group just to try and get a basic level of after-care service, but sadly to no avail. I will never purchase from them ever again

“Unflexible, Useless, Unsatisfactory.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RichieRich29 on 31/07/2012

Ordered a pair of headphones with special delivery on a specific day. Didn't arrive. When I went to check my tracking number my worst fears were realised....YODEL! Had a nightmare trying to re-arrange a delivery, with absolutely no flexibility from Yodel, telling me to ring Dixons to sort it out. Called dixons customer service and spoke to a representative who quite frankly just didn't want to know and gave the response of 'no, sorry' to every flexible request I tried to make, including changing the delivery day to my next day off, or potentially changing the delivery address to my work. Alas the only option I was left with to receive my goods was to arrange a delivery in the next few days, which I would miss due to being at work, or to make a 55 mile round trip to my nearest Yodel collections centre, where the time and petrol consumed would far outweigh the minimal price saving I made purchasing from Dixons in the first place. Needless to say I canceled my order and ordered from a competitor at a cost of just 5 pound more and received my headphones with no problem the next day! If only I'd gone with them in the first place I would have saved the time and money wasted with Dixons!

“Great price, not the best delivery”

★★★☆☆

written by jack1201 on 26/07/2012

I ordered a panasonic gf2 camera from dixons, seeing that it was £100 cheaper than in their sister store currys and PC world - and that was a bargain I couldn't resist! However after a few days waiting for my delivery (I chose the standard free UK delivery) I began to google the courier service used by dixons. This came up as Yodel, and a quick search reveals hundreds upon hundreds of terrible reviews and horror stories. From the tracking service, my parcel seemed to have travelled all over the place - from reading to failing to reach me, to southampton, back to reading and around various depots. This was a big cause of worry, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and began to wait the full 5 days before (what other reviewers had to do) calling customer service. The package arrived on the 4th day, with the outer box ripped open - but fortunately the contents inside were still unopened and in fine condition. But judging by the other reviews for Yodel I feel I got off fairly lightly! So overall, I got a great price, and the item arrived within the estimated postage times in an acceptable condition. I just thought I would write this review to give my experience with dixons and yodel, as it wasn't perfect, but they did do everything they said on the tin!

“Truly truly awful”

written by on 24/07/2012

Have never been upset enough to write a review before, but had a faulty Hotpoint tumble dryer delivered a month ago. Never worked. Engineer came, tried to blame me for heavy handed installation, after much argument found a fault with the motor (not possible to be caused by me). Gave me an 'uplift number' to arrange a reaplcement. My model was discontinued so chose another one, they were supposed to call me to arrange re-delivery. Have just spent 1 hour on the phone, have spoken to no less than 10 people (delivery centres, service centres, manufacturers) each one told me it was the wrong number and put me on hold to the next person, until I had gone full circle. Spoke to both Dixons and Know-How (the delivery co.) Was polite, but ended up in tears of frustration. They were rude and unhelpful. I have a newborn, am desperate for a tumble dryer and have no clue how to get it. Feel very very upset. Will never use Dixons again. ps if any of Dixons senior management are reading this and would like to help me, my uplift no is IY416502. Not feeling optimistic though.

“False advertising !!!”

written by on 21/06/2012

Advertised on line and aknowledged by staff in the Currys store (linked to Dixons by the way) a Canon Battery powered printer.. PIXMA Pro 950 for sale at just under £500 perfect for printing at shows without having to run a generator. Or so I thought! Printer arrived and was supplied with a cable and normal 3 pin plug so enquiried with the store to be told that the item had been wrongly advertised and they didnt have a battery powered printer at all. No appology for my inconvenience, very rude staff on the phone and when I requested to be put through to a supervisor was told this wasnt possible as they were too busy. Totally dis-satisfied with service/advertising/staff knowledge/customer management. Also printer was £140 more than the equivilent printer described as not battery powered, so what on earth was I paying for !!!

Discovered they had charged credit card for £714 over 6 years for insured maintenance of a long since redundant product .... We have a lot of activity on the card and hadn't spotted it because my wife thought it was something else no chance of refund I think they should at least send you an annual request for continuation

“Very impressed”

★★★★★

written by jamesS100 on 22/04/2012

I thought I would write a review about Dixons after dealing with them this morning and reading all the negativity about them here. I ordered a new washing machine last Tuesday from their website (£50 cheaper than nearest rival retailer and specified a Sunday delivery. A few hours later I received an email confirming the order and the delivery date. On the Saturday I was sent an email containing a tracking number so I could view the 4 hour slot on their Know How website. Come Sunday I received a call from the delivery driver 30 mins before they were due to arrive and sure enough they arrived spot on. My flat is right at the top of an old Edwardian building and up 3 flights of very narrow stairs but the 2 delivery guys negotiated the washing machine w/ packaging straight up and into the kitchen with no fuss. They even took the old machine back down with them and were very polite and courteous the whole time. I was definitely impressed with the communication and price of Dixons and will be using them again.

“cancelled my order!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/04/2012

Received a security call about my order. The member of staff did not explain why she needed to know my date of birth and other details. Her reaction when I asked why she needed these details was abrupt and her tone of voice impatient. At the end of the conversation, she said 'that's fine, we'll be delivering shortly'. I then received an e-mail from Dixons saying my order had been cancelled. When I called Dixons back they said the member of staff cancelled the order because 'she was not happy with the phone conversation' and she would try to reinstate the order for me. Very disappointed and worried they will charge me for the TV!

“why bother with dixons?”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 29/03/2012

so i had the cash, yes actual cash, i borrowed a van from work and at lunch time i went to dixons to purchase a specific dishwasher i had been checking out the night before on line. i walked into the shop and saw the model i wanted. after15 mins a sales assistant walked over and i explained i wanted to buy the item and take it in the van there and then. the guy "checked" on the computer and said it was out of stock and suggested another more expensive model. also tried to flog me 3 years cover at nearly a third of the price of the item which is crazy. ( so i asked him if it was likely to break down in the next 3 years because if it is then i dont want the item - of course he said no - so then why would i want the cover?) it turned out after checking another two items that were also out of stock that dixons hold no stock of dishwashers whatsoever - why didnt the bloke just tell me this in the first place instead of "checking" and wasting my time. so- home delivery is the only option at £25 for delivery that week or 15 for sometime in the next three weeks. dixons is therefore just an internet shopping website with a store you can view things in before ordering them. so having seen the item i was interested in i have just ordered it from a cheaper online website. - cheers dixons for the use of your showroom, it was most useful.

“Ignorant staff”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LizzieS2 on 25/03/2012

Regrettably, I ordered a TOSHIBA - SDP95 Portable DVD player from Dixons on line – after just a couple of months it went wrong – that was almost a month ago. I still have not got them to accept responsibility, and they will not replace it. Toshiba were helpful but do not have it in stock, and put me back to Dixons. Dixons Staff are adamant that Toshiba should replace it – clearly they do not understand consumer laws and that it is Dixons who should replace it. DON’T BUY FROM THEM

“Buyer Beware - returns even of faulty products are...”

★★☆☆☆

written by CommonSense on 22/03/2012

We ordered 2 refurbished TVs from Dixons expecting that they were being sold as 'in good working order', just not in original packaging. Delivery - good (on time) - Packaging- bad - they both came in a box full of air (and I don't mean bubble wrap - I mean nothing)- with the leads, remote, batteries and instruction booklet rattling around loose in the box, with the tvs only anchored by cardboard in the corners with a loose piece of thin foam sheet over the screen, making us feel a bit worried as to their condition following transit. Faulty- waiting for collection the small TV worked for a few hours and then next time it was turned on the screen was black- with perfect sound and then we noticed a vague ghostly image but no improvement. Dixons customer care agreed to replace or refund- I chose refund and gave me a collection day with hours between 9am-5pm. Apparently they cannot even guarantee the driver texting or ringing before their arrival so that you don't have to sit in the house all day, (though they can collect from your place of work - which is ok unless you are a cabby-salesman-etc and don't have an office or base). Not as described- The other TV came with instructions that described it as 'HD ready' and inside on page 50 it clearly states, "Whilst the TV is capable of accepting a 1080p input, it is not capable of displaying this screen resolution and therefore the display will be scaled to fit the native resolution of the screen automatically." YET, on my receipt it clearly states that I have bought a Full HD TV and when I queried this with customer services they told me that it IS a full HD TV even though the instructions that came with it say otherwise. I told cs that I had lost confidence in the product for the reasons explained (see above) and wanted to return but was told that I could not, even though it only arrived yesterday. And if this full-HD-or-HD-ready tv breaks down in 10 days/weeks/months time I will only be offered a repair or replacement if unfixable- not a refund apparently. Do not buy here, if you don't like hassle when/if things go wrong - which they seem to have a higher chance of doing given their product packaging, manuals and uncustomer focussed customer service.

“Terrible Delivery Service & NO Stock levels not correct”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/03/2012

Over the last year I have ordered several desktop and laptops from Dixons for customers. Of the several orders I have placed and paid for a timed delivery slot. The delivery has NEVER turned up on the day paid for. Several occasions I have had an email 3-5 days later saying they now could not NOW fill my order due to no stock AFTER they had charged my credit card. The website was still displaying the item was in stock. Terrible service ALL round and don't even bother paying for a timed delivery as its all round pot luck if they ever deliver anything. Will never even visit the website again.

“Do not buy a refurbished TV - they are not refurbished!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dixonsarerubbish on 07/03/2012

Just took delivery of two supposedly refurbished and tested TV's. Neither work. One doesn't even power up, one remote controller doesn't work and one does not respond to a remote. Clearly not tested at all. These had obviously been returned as faulty, thrown into a plain brown box and shipped out. To add insult to injury they charge you 6.2p a minute to arrange for collection and refund and you spend a small fortune hanging on, listing to messages and then waiting whilst an operator fails to find your details.I think my phone call paid for their return shipping costs! And I now have to wait for 7 days from when they get them back before I get refunded. They will have had my money two weeks.

“Whatever has happened to Dixons?”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 05/03/2012

Ordered a Panasonic DVD/Video recorder and paid a premium for delivery on following Friday as told by Knowhow that such deliveries are made by DPD and not the dreaded 'Yodel'. It had not arrived by late afternoon so starting to worry. No confirmation e-mail so no tracking number and did not know who to contact. E-mailed Dixons asking for phone call back but no reply. It cost a small fortune in telephone calls and got nowhere, only recordings, until a very helpful guy, he deserves a medal, on Dixons repair number, only one i could get an answer from, not only checked my order and told me that Yodel were delivering it but also phoned them and got assurance that it would be delivered that day albeit up to nine at night. We had stayed in all day and who delivered it at 6-30pm, none other than the company i had paid to avoid, 'Yodel' in an old white van. Got a call from Dixons Monday afternoon apologising and delivery cost refunded as apparantly Yodel are contracted to Deliver by 5-30pm. Sorry Dixons but you have been so good on line in the past but you obviously have problems which will always be compounded by using a company like Yodel to deliver. Don't forget that Yodel is the old Home Delivery Service that had so many problems and now has even more of them.

“Will definately shop again”

★★★★★

written by on 28/02/2012

Ordered a DCU8230 condenser dryer via Dixons online shop. Great price and goods were delivered exactly on date and time stated. Free delivery to Northern Scotland as well which is good as a lot of companies advertise free delivery to UK mainland but the minute you enter the KW postcode the delivery charges go on. WELL DONE DIXONS. I will definately buy from them again. The Tumble Dryer is great too. Nice big drum, quiet to use and very very quick compared to my old dryer. I would definately recommend this model to anyone looking for a new dryer.
