Now that the Harpenden Building Society's interest rate is staying put, it is not worth committing your money for up to 18 years. The rate was high in the past, at 5.15%, which was worth committing your money to for a long time... But you cannot withdraw any money before the child is 18. More importantly, they have not increased rates when the bank rate went up in August 2006.
