I had a t39 when they first came out almost 9 years ago. I found it compact, cute, functional and with good battery life and talktime. Recently, I bought another on eBay, as it was truly the most functional phone for text and talk communication I have ever owned. I use a smartphone during the week for business but at the weekend the simplicity and functionality of the t39 can't be beaten....

As we are in 2009, when we are talking strictly about *mobile phone* (not compared to smartphones, multimedia and things like that) this phone has still good features like fast gprs, bluetooth, infrared to survive in the market. This is by far the best mobile phone I had!! I always bought new phones and right after I was turning back to t39!! My roadmap... SE 628 --> SE t28s --> SE t39s -->SE P800 -->SE t39s -->SE SX1 --> SE t39s !! I wish SE to create a new model with the basis of t39 by placing...

Phone has been sent back twice for repair / replacement. On neither occasion was FAULTS rectified or phone replaced.
Faults :-
1)When vibrate alert feature turned on phone vibrates and possible bad battery connection causes phone to shut off.
2) Phone turns its self off for no good reason, battery is full.
3) Phones displays message charging battery, when no charger connected.
4) Support from Ericsson was terrible, they returned phone stating no problem. It failed again within...

I love this T39 phone a lot, it has an architectural line in shape and has attracted many admiring glances over the dirth of anonymous sony-ericssons and nokias out there.
My contract was up for renewal so for an 'upgrade' I got a compact metal motorola phone (v60i?) which due to its annoying over complicated software and poor instructions and nagging tone got given to a relative pretty quick! I'm back with my T39 now and like it even more. The operating system is so easy and its robust and...

I bought the T39 because Nokia were taking forever to release a triband, bluetooth, GPRS fone in Australia. It worked well for this first few months. An now no-one can hear me on the phone. If I use the blue tooth headset I can't hear them. I have called ericsson & they advise I need to take it to a service centre (Great (Not)). I have had nothing but problems since I bought my Ericsson T39 mobile phone in April. I have had 3 replacements and 4 repairs and my current phone is still faulty.
The battery life is advertised at 300 hours stand by and 10 hours talk time, Im lucky to get 200 hours and 2.5 hours.

I have the same bad experience with the T 39. It would be a great phone if it would work. The fact that the service of SonyEricsson is incredibly bad doesn't make it better. I just received a defect replacement for the faulty T39 I turned it. Now I am waiting for replacement number 4. Normal waiting time: 2-6 weeks each time. One would expect SonyEricsson checks there phones before they deliver them.

Interesting that one comment came back saying that the standby time of the T39 was only 70 hours. A call to Ericsson, or to whoever sold the phone, would quickly show that a known bug with later versions of this phone is a 70-hour standby time. It can be changed with a firmware update. I had mine updated, and now I get 220+ hours standby on a full charge.
Of course, if the phone was stolen or bought illicitly, you wouldn't stand a chance.

There are a lot of bugs in the firmware on the Ericsson T39 mobile phone. For e-mail problem you should upgrade the version of firmware. Also remaining battery life estimation does not work properly. This Ericsson T39 mobile phone gadget was well ahead of its time when it was released and in some respect it still is today. GPRS is far too expensive for the most of us and the tech market isn't really flooded with Bluetooth devices either. Features - 5 out of 10.
My main reason for buying this phone - Outlook compatibility - is not in practice able to be utilised without a cable or XP capable software.
Reception - 5 out of 10. No better than average for any other phone with an external aerial.

I switched from a Nokia 6210 to an Ericsson T39 mobile phone recently. Managed to set up 2 different email client accounts and 3 wap accounts all working fine, also connnect it to my PC via a DRS-10 cable to access the phone book, phone setting and ericsson modem, and composed a couple of new ring tones. The Ericsson T39 mobile phone certainly has a lot of features - I'm trying to make my mission to use as many as possible in order to get as much value for money as possible. Reception has been very good, with excellent sound quality even on a 'dodgy' network.
On the minus side - the battery life, although long, is not as advertised (300h). It tells me I've got 159h worth of juice left in it even though it was at 184h this morning and I've not made any calls (that's 25h worth used up in @6h)....

I am a T39 user as well, but I think the battery life is excellent! The review on the indicator, therefore, needs to be clarified a bit. The indicated remaining battery life is based on your location since searching for a signal, and maintaining, it does consume power. Therefore, staying close to your SPs service tower would give your phone longer life, and vice versa.

Thanks yiz

That's why i commented on not being near a base station. Given I'm on One2one, which normally has the worst reception, it does seem that my phone is working overtime trying to keep a signal - which it has managed to do adequately so far. Not that it matters all that much; the battery life is long enough to keep me happy. And since I upgraded from a previous ericsson I now have 2 chargers so I can keep one in the office and one at home.

My point is that the literature from ericsson isn't fully believable but, even so, the phone is pretty excellent.

Yo, the phone rocks the house, but seriously, the large "stick" on top spoils the perfect design. The flip makes everyone stare, just look at the people in the streets. The overall grade would go deep under on my review though, because the early models had to be replaced every 3 months or so.

You're not using the same phone obviously. T39 is the best phone I have ever had, after numerous Panasonics, Siemens, Nokias. Battery life amazing. Leave it on during day, recharge once a week. What more do you want? Also, voice dialling fantastic. Has never failed. Seems insensitive to pitch. Clearly, it needs several syllables to get a handle.

Try Using a HIGH CAPACITY BATTERY for Gods sakes! You'll see a mobile phone going on for twenty four hours a day for almost a MONTH! you'll be recharging twice and even once a month. Let see Nokias sissy standy times beat that!

Hey, I too have had problems with Ericsson which has been fixed. Basically it started where I bought the faulty version of the T39m with the short standby bug..
Got it replaced, same problem.. Took it to a repair centre and they stuffed it up big time, wouldn't stay on for long, restarted the phone alot.. Then I got f***'*d over because they tried to repair it which voids the warranty (as I *now* know) and therefore I was no longer eligible for a new phone, only a remanufactored unit.. Rang ericsson and after 4 or 5 calls and 5 phones, all is good... I got a data cable out of it too, but they double checked the phone before delivery.. Now it works okay, but I seriously wished I had stayed with my T20, was more reliable really... The phone doesn't deliver as promised though, which is sad... But I still like Ericssons..

I too have had my fair share of ericsson related problems. I purchased a T28s and after a couple months I had the trouble of not having no names displayed when looking through the phone book. The phone would also turn itself off intermitidly. I rang ericsson and they convinced me it was a SIM problem. I got a new SIM and still had the same problems. After sending the phone away (and keeping the extra battery you get...hehe), Ericsson sent me a brand new phone(well what do you know...i got two batteries with that one too). This failed to rectify the problem as that phone did the same thing. I rang ericsson again and had the phone sent away for repair. It came back, STILL Faulty with ericsson claiming they cant find anything wrong. After still having the problems it was sent away again and I was issued with another Brand new phone(hehe...and yet another battery). Still getting the same problems from the third brand new phone, Ericsson asked me to take it to a repairer personnally so they can test it with the same SIM that I was using, which I did. Since then I have had no problems at all, even though ericsson found no faults at all. They sent me a curtousy battery(lol...Now I have 4, 3 ultraslim and 1 slim, and I sold 1 so I woulda had 5) for all the trouble I had. So check your SIM aswell as your phone as I was told they are used to power some phones and if the SIM is faulty...it could make the phone faulty too.

I agree with Mystic that my problems too did seem connected in some way to the SIM - being on 02. Orange worked perfectly.
I did find a solution myself. I don't think the aerials are any good - I purchased an Ericsson High performance aerial IAT-10 (The box says it's for the T29) which extends to about 200mm and seems to have cured my problems of not being heard - even when it is retracted.

I have had also poor experiences with Ericcson as my T39mc just cannot seem to work as keeps going No Network anywhere I go in the world. I bought a T68i and it seems to be ok but the T39mc must have been produced with naff software as it just cannot lock onto a carrier (although I know the signal is showing strong on my other GSM phone). Some people have even told me it was a SIM problem which was horsemuck cause the SIM works fine in my other GSM phones all except this T39. If I could get my money back, I would just go out and buy another brand of worldphone to compare with but the T68 seems to be a much better bet right now and thankfully i have this backup phone to use while Ericsson techs try to figure this one out...
Last week, while I was in NY and the phone was on its way to and from the third repair cycle - I could not stand the temptation and bought the new Nokia 6310i 3-band phone.
For now - the T39m is in my drawer. Depending on the Nokia's performance in the coming weeks I will decide which one to keep and which one to dump.
T39m is really cute and useful, but an average repair every two months is somewhat beyond my expectations (especially when there is no /// repair center in Israel that can handle this phone).
