Amazing bow, the only thing that I found is that... well I shoot a lot o Barnett's products and this one is just to bulky for what it is. I think if you were going to purchase this model I would say Don't and buy the WildCat C5! The wild cat actually shoots at about 340fps when using the correct set up and the Quad does not push the benchmark tests at all. It shoots what the company has stated about it 345fps. For the extra bulk and money its just not worth it. Go Wildcat or jump up to one... (read more)

I purchased my Quad 400 back on May of 2009. Right out of the box I had problems with the scope. Found out it was a loose screw on the windage side of the scope. Got it sighed in and on 23 shot the string fraid. Ordered a new one and paid $10 to Gander to have it installed. Then I could not sight it in again and found a screw on the side of the triger kept coming lose. Called and they said to send it in and not to shoot it. I AM SO MAD, THIS IS MY SECOND YEAR IN A ROW THIS BOW RUINED MY HUNTING SEASON!!!!!
ITS OCTOBER 7 2012 AND I JUST GOT BACK FROM UP NORTH HUNTING WHICH IS A 2 HOUR DRIVE(TIME IS MONEY RIGHT) I GOT THIS BARNETT QUAD 400 CROSSBOW LAST YEAR AND THE STRING SNAPPED WITHIN THE FIRST 5 TEST SHOTS. I IMMIDIATLY TOOK IT BACK TO DUNNAMS SPORTING GOODS STORE AND THEY ACTUALLY SWAPPED IT OUT FOR A NEW ONE SO I WOULDNT MISS THE WHOLE SEASON. THEN I GO UP NORTH HUNTING WITH THE BRAND NEW ONE AND THE CRANK SNAPS IN MY FACE, SO I CONTINUED TO PULL IT BACK BY HAND UNTILL I COULD GET BACK IN TOWN AND GET IT FIXED.
SO A SEASON GOES BY AND I HAD IT ALL FIXED UP AND READY TO GO HUNTING AGAIN. I GOT UPNORTH AND HUNTED ONE TIME FOR A 4 HOUR SESSION AND PUT A PRACTICE ARROW IN TO FIRE IT SO I DIDNT DRY FIRE THE WEAPON( I TAKE THE BEST CARE OF ALL MY HUNTING GEAR) AND THE LIMB SNAPPED RIGHT IN MY FACE. I AM SO MAD RIGHT NOW CONSIDERING MY FIANCE WAS USUALLLY SITS IN THE BLIND WITH ME AND THIS COULD HAVE KILLED HER OR ME. THIS CROSSBOW IS EXTREMLY DANGEROUS AND I WOULDNT USE ONE IF THEY GAVE ME IT FOR FREE. I DONT PLAN ON CALLING BARNETT EITHER I JUST SUGGEST THAT EVERYONE I KNOW NEVER BUYS ONE. PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THAT YOUR PLAYING WITH YOUR LIFE EVERYTIME YOU PULL A BARNETT 400 QUAD BACK. ******BUYER BEWARE do not buy THIS CROSSBOW******

I've read reviews of this crossbow(quad 400), I purchased mine in 2008..never and I mean ever had anything described by oyher writers happen. I still have the original string on this bow. People need to read directions carefully when dealing with a high power bow. I wax the string, as well as the shooting rails, every 5 to 7 shots. I must have pushed at least 500 bolts so far through this bow if not more without any issues. I shoot it all year long as well as my daughter. It is deadly... (read more)

I bought the Barnett Quad 400 last year (2010) and have only had one hunting season with it. My first problem with this crossbow was after sighting in the scope the string broke, I might have shot it 10 times at that point. Ordered new string and had professional restring it. Went ahead and used it for deer season last year and shot a 10pt with it, thought it was a great crossbow. Just got the 400 home. The manual shows parts and a picture, but in putting the bow together, all the parts mentioned are not in the manual pictures. Also, after you've figured out how to assemble it on your own, you'll discover additional parts to install (an afterthought?) that aren't mentioned in manual. Then ya gotta take it apart again. Someone above the age of 6 should rewrite the manual. (read more)

Having used a Barnett Quad 400 crossbow for the 2011-2012, multiple problems have occurred. First, the bolt that secured the cranking spool loosened and caused a major malfunction while out in the field. And, the knurled handle on the crank handle does not keep the threads secured. Recommend using thread locking material, i.e., "Locktite", or else the threaded fasteners and components will loosen uunexpectedly.

When the Quad 400 is not broken it is fast and accurate. I bought in 2009. Shot deveral times, followed maintenance instructions, kept lubed and waxed. Loaded a bolt and shot, bolt went 10 feet, cams were dented and cable frayed. Sent back to Barnett, they rebuilt thhe whole bow assembly. Got it back and shot 5 times very successfully, loaded a sixth bolt and the string broke when the trigger was squeezed for the shot. I e-mailed Barnett. I have about 200 shots through this bow and have had only a couple of minor problems. First was the crank cocking device. It damaged the dressing when I used it. The dressing is the part of the string that the knock of the bolt rests on. I took a Dremil to the outside edges and rounded them off, that corrected the problem. Not addressing the damaged dressing would cause the string to break!
The second problem came about after about 50 shots. One of the screws that held the scope in place...

THE BAD
Bow is very noisy, and the trigger pull is long and sloppy and has no feel. Took the cocking device off, as it just adds to the noise level, and really doesn't work all that great.
ACCURACY

I purchased the Barnett Quad 400 based on speed and price. The speed is there, the price was right, but, of course, if the string and cables blow up the first time that you use the crossbow, then you it can't labeled as a good value. The Barnett Quad 400 is an excellent crossbow. The string may need to be replaced after as little as 100 shots. This is normal for crossbows. A bow press will be required to change the string, so people without access to this equipment or a specialist dealer should consider buying a recurve bow, such as an Excalibur. (read more)
