Good Points: The real star of the whole place though is the food - beautifully presented and really delicious. We couldn't say enough good things about this. The staff too were particularly friendly and almost military in their approach!
Bad Points: Decor really does need upgrading as its the only low point of the hotel.
General comments: The hotel is in a super location! Five minutes walk to the town centre and a lovely walk at that! We stayed in one of the Station rooms which was in the original station building and connected to the main hotel. The room was huge with a king sized bed and a single bed, room for our cot, a coffee table and two easy chairs. The decor was really tired though, wall paper peeling in places, etc. but to be fair it was clean and the decor didn't concern us at all. This was obviously a really special place in its day and has an almost sad, haunted air about it but with a little money spent on it it would be utterly fab. There were bathrobes, fruit, bottles of water and chocolates over and above the usual tea and biscuit tray. The bathroom was really generous in size and even our soap was changed every day.

Have stayed at the Keswick Hotel several times and it is now our definite favourite in Keswick. Fantastic views from most rooms. Five minutes from the town centre and 10 minutes from Derwentwater - what more could you want - except maybe to see the ghost (or maybe not)!

Keswick Country House Hotel is a 3 star hotel which is old fashioned and woody as it is the old train station hotel. Rooms are clean well decorated and spacious. Staff are unfailingly helpful and polite. 5 minutes walk from the small town, 10-15 from lake Derwent which is lovely! Excellent base for touring the whole of the lakes and lower reaches of Scotland.
