Good Points: Blade Whistler Unintentional humour
Bad Points: Nightstalkers Lack of plot & character development
General comments: After sitting through Blade: Trilogy, I have now, pretty reluctantly, seen all 3 films of the Blade franchise. For me, the best thing about these films is the humour, with Blade you know what you're getting: it's brainless, it's action and it's primarily designed for teenage boys and is certainly not a film where you will get lost in plot twists. The latest, and rumoured to be Snipe's last Blade outing, sees our grouchy hero get caught on camera knocking ten bells out of a bunch of human villains. When the media and police latch onto this footage, Blade is suddenly reported to have turned into a murderous scumbag and must therefore go into hiding to avoid almost certain death. Blade's actions, however, have startling consequences for his old school mentor Whistler. The old boy has been knocking on heaven's door during the previous two films and is yet again caught in up in another live or die shootout thanks to Blade's recklessness. Has the veteran zombie slayer got one more fight left in him or is his time finally up?
Blade himself also gets into his usual scrapes: the bad-tempered vampire hunter gets outmanoeuvred by his enemies in the early going and only escapes thanks to an impromptu save from the newest addition to the franchise - The Nightstalkers. This is a group of 'rookies' who think they have got what it takes to take down the enemy. The Nightstalkers are supposedly the future of the Blade franchise; however, if their involvement in Trinity is anything to go by then this will be the last of the Blade adventures. The Nightstalkers look more like a bunch of Hollyoaks extras rather than meaner-than-hell vampire killers and are an unnecessary and disappointing addition to the film. The one-liners uttered by Nightstalkers leader Hannibal King are so pathetic that you will probably laugh at the stupidity of the comments rather than the acid-tongued wit in which they are supposed to be delivered. Snipes is on good form though, as are the villains, and it is the usual action-mad battle scenes that will keep the kids happy with plenty of no-brainer action to satisfy the target audience. With the humour so bad that it's good, I would just about recommend this film to anyone with a hangover that wants to sit through an easy to watch movie that is incredibly daft, but also quite fun in places.
