Had it home for less than a month, upon turning the unit on, the power button goes from red to green and right to blinking yellow, then shuts off. Took it in - they charged me 200.00 to 'fix' it and it did the same damn thing about a week later. Took it back, they were going to charge me another 100.00 just to look at it! Now it sits in my closet.

1 month old... you reject under the Sale of Goods Act, better still if you paid on a Credit Card the Consumer Credit Act kicks in, the retailer is .... , I can guess if it was a multiple which it was, buy from a good retailer, it is still under a year old so, Sale of Goods Act still applies.
It is not of mechantable quality nor therefore fit for purpose !

Same old problem with the Denon UD-M31 - the volume knob does not work properly. Now the tuner has packed up. Item about 3 years old. Very disappointed...

After 18 months I experienced a problem with the volume on my Denon UD-M31. I Have had to replace the input/putput circuit board, and now I need to replace the drive motor for the cd player. It appears you can only buy this part by buying the complete loading mechanism which will cost me approximately $185. I am dissatisfied by all these major faults within 5 years. So much for Denons reputation of quality!

In our family we have two Denon UD-M31 micro systems. After 3 years both have the same fault. You can control the volume on the remote, but, the manual volume control fails after a minute or so. The system goes on full power. The "Lack of Service" department at Denon deny there is a problem.

It is a great piece of kit when it works, but, if you have a problem, Denon seem to take the view - buy another one! "Our systems are very reliable". "We do not know of similar problems"

I have exactly the same problem. As the unit was just out of guarantee when it happened I have not had it repaired (or dared to find out the cost!). I'll keep using the remote until that breaks and then I guess I'm stuffed. As this is the second Denon I've had that has reliably developed problems just outside the guarantee period I feel they've had their chance and I will be replacing it with a different make, something more long-lasting.

Aidan Dunne's Response to richard miller's Review

There clearly is a problem with the UD-M31 volume control as exactly the same thing happened to mine. First the manual control only increased the volume regardless of which way it was turned, then the volume became progressively more reluctant to respond to the remote. Finally it's given up altogether.

I want to use the tuner only, to feed a separate Amplifier system with its own speakers. Can I do this? and if so, from where do I take the Tuner output?

How do you operate the Bass/Treble controls/Adjustment? I've tried the obvious with no success.

I've now discovered you need first to select SDB ON then you can adjust volume either on Treble or Bass by 1 to 5 points + or - using the fast back or forward keys. I've also discovered that the subwoofer phono output works very nicely into my subwoofer system and gives an extra octave or thereabouts. Mine does have crossover before its own amplifier into 15" woofer built into floor.
