Good Points: Terrific zoom Good lens Excellent colour control Good vibration stabilisation The ability to override all automatic settings, or to point and snap Relatively quick to take the picture A variety of multiple shot modes for action photography Much smaller than a 10x zoom DSLA Good video camera with smooth zoom (only takes 60 second at a time) Rechargeable battery life is good
Bad Points: Very very slow to download large pictures to the card (max 10 seconds!! YES!) The complexity of menus means that manual control options can be slow and frustrating However, the point and snap mode is very satisfying Bigger than a point & snap.
General comments: The Nikon Coolpix 8800 is a good digital camera to either snap people or, alternatively, manually compose landscapes.
It has a very good lens and consistent clean colour so those views... too slow to save files so you only have one shot at action or impromptu pix
Too much electronic 'noise' in low light.
Overall, the CCD, optics, body and design are let down (a bit) by the processor speed and software.
But so much zoom, so small for this price?
Yes I would recommend it!
