Good Points: Situated between Keswick and Cockermouth not far from Bassenthwaite it is the ideal base for this part of the country. Also not far from Buttermere to the south and Whitehaven to the west. On a bus route to Keswick and Penrith so accessible by public transport. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped apartment with wonderful views down the valley towards Skiddaw.

Bad Points: Temporay closure of restaurant during our stay.

General comments: We have stayed at Derwent Lodge Country Hotel four times and intend coming back next year when hopefully the restaurant will be open again. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped apartment with wonderful views down the valley towards Skiddaw.

I first came to this hotel in 2003 when it was first under new management and we had a fabulous time then returned in 2004 twice. There was great food and the staff where extremely friendly. we then revisited the hotel in the summer 2007 and had a dreadful stay. We were supposed to be staying for 5 days but ended going home after 3. we heard that the previous management had gone and none of the staff that we remembered were there- thats what made the hotel so nice before was their friendly staf ...

Stayed in a B&B, Derwent Lodge was an excellent hotel all round, staff were very helpful and friendly, food and accommodation was excellent value for money, we will definitely be visiting this hotel again.

Derwent Lodge Country Hotel is situated in a perfect location for visiting the lakes, Nr.Bassenthwaite Lake. Luxurious apartment and very friendly service, just like a family, looked after us in the few months in there. I was told that Derwent Lodge is under new management, the ones that open it in the first place and standards are very high.

Derwent Lodge Country Hotel is a pleasant hotel situated between Cockermouth and Keswick in the village of Embleton. Not much to do in the village though the local pub is but a few steps away. Obviously new staff here, mainly foreign and standard of bed making, room re appointment and general maid service was dreadful. A complaint actually resulted in one of the girls being admonished whilst we were left waiting outside the room. Embarrassing stuff and very unprofessional. Evening meal on the fi ...
