Good Points: Ummm...energy efficient I guess

    Bad Points: everything else

General comments: The Kenmore Calypso Top Loading machine is a bad product overall. the clothing gets twisted and wrinkled. It is not reliable. I have spent a lot of money fixing it. Now I have to buy something else because I am not going to sink more cash into it.

don't try to wash with Kenmore Calypso Top Loading using what they consider maximum amount of items. need to dry areas of moisture after using. Keep lid open to help drying of interior. been in use for 4.5 years. still looks like new. machine is used almost daily with 3 loads some days.don't mix cloths; shirts with shirts, towels with towels, different types will tend to group together and cause unbalance,
this machine is more sensitive than the older style units but I think that is due to the ...

This is by far the absolute worst washer I have ever owned. It makes me sick to my stomach to think I paid $1600 for this washer/dryer combo. I purchased it thinking I would never have to buy another washer again, it was perfect looking. Looks are so deceiving. Every time I wash our laundry, we end up with brown mold on our clothes. Our clothes smell musty too, especially the towels!! I have tried running bleach through the washer, leaving the lid open between loads, etc. but nothing seems to wo ...

This is the most I have ever spent on a washing machine. I tried to force Sears to take it back from the beginning. They led me through a long process of requiring service calls before I could return and then told me "Sears is NOT in the business of exchanging washing machines." I can't afford to buy anything else and this machine has literally ruined my life. It ruins anything washed in it, nothing comes out clean, clothes that have been washed together safely for years have faded all over eac ...

My fiance's parents gave us this when our initial one died. They didn't like it so they had bought a new one. Now I know why they didn't like it! It constantly marks up my clothes with these nasty dark streaks that look like grease. After doing research, apparently the U-Joint/Transmission is submerged in the water but must stay greased to work. Thus, the grease on my clothes! I cannot even begin to explain how frustrated and angry it has made me.

This machine looks so deceiving. It is classy looking with lots of "special features", but sadly it doesn't work! The design is flawed as the seal under the tub leaks grease when it spins. The marks are almost impossible to remove and the machine is too costly to repair. My advice "Buy the least expensive machine with the most simple design, with the features you need, and it will last as long as your mothers!

I have had my Kenmore Calypso Top Loading washing machine for 4 years, and I found out from the repair guy that it was the worst idea that Kenmore ever came up with. They have placed a U-Joint under the bottom of the tub that must stay greased in order for it to work. The other point that he said was that the U-Joint is submerged into the water every time you run a load. (This causes the grease marks on garments).

We just donated our 3 year old Calypso Kenmore Elite washing machine to charity, and replaced it with a traditional top load design. This has been an exercise in frustration. It killed me to donate this machine after paying $1000 for it and only using it for 3 years, but it just didn't work. My wife is happier with the new machine (Maytag).

This has to be the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned! I bought it about three years ago for big bucks, and I figured I could retire with it. I almost immediately had to have it repaired. After the warranty ran out, I couldn't afford the service calls, so I just dealt with the problems, thinking that I must somehow be doing something wrong. Not! I always use the HE detergent, and still get what the repairman said was suds lock. Now it does it every week, and I'm lucky if I can get 4 l ...

Two years to the day after purchasing my Kenmore Elite Calypso, I am watching the workmen take it out of the door, and bring in a washer that works, to replace it. It broke down almost immediately after I got it, and was repaired under the warranty. I asked for a new machine, and was promised one, but none was ever delivered. Since the repair seemed ok and I was busy, I let it go. What a mistake!

A week ago, the repairman told me that it would be cheaper to buy a new machine than to repair ...

I have owned my Kenmore Calypso Top Loading machine for approximately 3 years and have had numerous breakdowns. This is the worst piece of junk on the market.

I honestly thought that this, when I purchased it, would be the last washer and dryer set I would ever need. I paid what I thought was a premium price at Sears and feel I got screwed. There, in effect, is no warranty on this washer unless you pay several hundred dollars extra for an extended warranty. The washer doesn't spin all the excess water out of the clothes, I have to use the extended spin option three or four times each load and still there is excess water remaining so the dryer has to r ...

The Kenmore Calypso Top Loading does NOT clean, leaves black marks on clothes, does not rinse well, I have pulled clothes out that are not completely wet. When the machine breaks and it is very expensive to fix. $400.00 for a pump and the machine was not even 2 years old. I didn't take an extended warranty. Now it is 3 years old and it is broke again so I am going to go and buy another regular washing machine. What a waste of money.

I purchased my Kenmore Calypso Top Loading from Sears about 3 years ago. For a washer, I did not think it was cheap and really thought I was getting something for my money. Since I have purchased this washer, I have had a repair man out 8 times to fix the same problem. When I call, they say it will be a week before a repairman can make it out. Twice, they have come out, say they have the problem fixed, and then as soon as I run a load, I get the same code problem. It takes another week for them ...

I bought the Kenmore Elite Calyspo washer three years ago, I have never been happy. I thought it was my imagination, but it has only gotten worse. Machine will sometimes stop for no reason, then the entire washing cycle has to be restarted. Clothes aren't washed. I have found folded hand towels or pants that at the end of the cycle REMAIN in the exact same position, and NOT clean. I HATE IT, I HATE IT, I HATE IT.!!!
The selling point is that it's more gentle on clothes. Of course it is it doe ...

A class-action lawsuit has been filed for the manufacturers of the Kenmore Calypso Top Loading. I have experienced every fault that is named on the suit:
*Mold ("fixed" twice, but still not satisfactory)
    *U-joint/transmisson (three times)
    *Circuit board failure (once)
I am going to buy another machine tonight because the mold is becoming a health issue to my family and even though I have an extended service plan through Sears they don't consider the mold problem a "functional" failure that w ...
