“So far I've owned my Volkswagen Touran SE 2.0 TDI DSG...”

★★★★★

So far I've owned my Volkswagen Touran SE 2.0 TDI DSG People Carrier for only 6 weeks, but have become very impressed with it. It is one of those cars that at first you're not sure that you've done the right thing by buying it. But, as time goes on you appreciate it's qualities more and more.

This is the first diesel car I have owned, and other than at idle and when filling up it's difficult to tell any difference to a petrol engine, except of course for the huge difference in fuel consumption, one run in the car I saw 50 mpg, which is excellent for a car of this size. More often I seem to get 42-44 mpg which for mixed driving with a 7 seater is really good.

The DSG is a new sort of automatic gearbox which has 6 speeds, it's so smooth it's only by watching the gear indicator you can tell it's changed gear.

So far the only problems have been minor ones like noises from the rear seats which I still have to track down.

But generally as you can tell I love the car.

Well it's now eight months since I took delivery of my Touran.
The only problems have been niggly ones, the rattle from the rear seats has been fixed - turned out to be the rear seat headrests and the tubes that hold them in place needed replacing. Somedays I feel that I'd like to buy something more sporty and exciting, like a new Golf GTi, but then sensibility cuts in, and I realise that only a vehicle like this will do everything I want.
Old furniture needed taking to the tip today, took the second row of seats out, and all the rubbish fitted in and only had to do one trip, any other car I've had I'd have needed to do 3 or 4 trips.
The best parts of ownership are the comfort, obvious safety features, both to avoid an accident, and to protect if an accident occurs. The engine, gearbox and steering are wonderfull. A friend drove the car and couldn't get over how easy it was to drive.
The downsides are that the interior plastics do mark easily (these are the cheaper plastics used in the interior more expensive ones used in such places as the dashboard seem fine), and I've got to agree with a lot of people the design isn't likely to set your heart on fire. But, the Touran does make a lot on sense if you need a vehicle that can act as estate car, mini bus or van, it can do all of that in its stride.

We've got to agree fully - only we have had no rattle problems. As you say the car is one of practicality, not necessarily looks, but it does everything it says on the packet and very well. The 140 and 170 TDI engines are both outstanding performers, and even better when mated with DSG gearbox. After having 2 DSG VW's, I can't actually understand why anyone would want a manual, especially on the roads today. The DSG is quicker, more economical, and brilliant to drive, and is as smooth as the best conventional autos I've had - if anything, better. In fact I have been so impressed with the DSG box, I have since ordered and received a EOS convertable 2.0 FSI Turbo in DSG - my god that goes!
<br/>Well done VW.
