“i needed a car which would commute economically and...”

i needed a car which would commute economically and reliably, and in its spare time tow a medium sized 4 berth caravan. This cuts the choice down to diesel, more kerbweight than a family saloon, and comfort and adaptability for holidays. The Volkswagen Touran SE 2.0 TDI DSG was the only choice which ticked all the boxes, AND can be got in & out of without banging heads or twisting backs. After 80K trouble free commuting & touring, I know it was the right choice… Read Full Review

“After a few weeks with this Volkswagen Touran SE 2.0...”

After a few weeks with this Volkswagen Touran SE 2.0 TDI DSG People Carrier, I'm starting to wonder how I ever lived without it. The 2.0 TDI SE (manual, 6-speed) accelerates with plenty of pull, cruises comfortably at motorway speeds, and is very comfortable for long hauls. I've never owned a VW before, but this one is well put together, and is so smooth it drives itself. I can't imagine a better family car; it is spacious, has two extra pull-up seats for kids in the boot, and has been giving… Read Full Review

It's a really good car but look out when you get a puncture.... There is no spare and using the sealant to create a drivable fix renders the tyre unrepairable. Total cost for 1 small nail = £112.00

Tyre centres will not fix these after using the sealant and even though the damage is minute and the tyre nearly new, you have to buy a new one.
Not very impressive really.

I'm not so sure plain looks are a problem (you can't see your own car when you are driving of course). Probably an advantage as less likely to attract mindless vandalism or "envy" crime.

If other type repair shops take the same approach then that's a good point. It's the price you pay for having the pull-up seats, but it's an expensive one nonetheless. Type repairs normally set you back about £15.

“So far I've owned my Volkswagen Touran SE 2.0 TDI DSG...”

So far I've owned my Volkswagen Touran SE 2.0 TDI DSG People Carrier for only 6 weeks, but have become very impressed with it. It is one of those cars that at first you're not sure that you've done the right thing by buying it. But, as time goes on you appreciate it's qualities more and more.

This is the first diesel car I have owned, and other than at idle and when filling up it's difficult to tell any difference to a petrol engine, except of course for the huge difference in fuel… Read Full Review

Well it's now eight months since I took delivery of my Touran.
The only problems have been niggly ones, the rattle from the rear seats has been fixed - turned out to be the rear seat headrests and the tubes that hold them in place needed replacing. Somedays I feel that I'd like to buy something more sporty and exciting, like a new Golf GTi, but then sensibility cuts in, and I realise that only a vehicle like this will do everything I want.
Old furniture needed taking to the tip today, took the second row of seats out, and all the rubbish fitted in and only had to do one trip, any other car I've had I'd have needed to do 3 or 4 trips.
The best parts of ownership are the comfort, obvious safety features, both to avoid an accident, and to protect if an accident occurs. The engine, gearbox and steering are wonderfull. A friend drove the car and couldn't get over how easy it was to drive.
The downsides are that the interior plastics do mark easily (these are the cheaper plastics used in the interior more expensive ones used in such places as the dashboard seem fine), and I've got to agree with a lot of people the design isn't likely to set your heart on fire. But, the Touran does make a lot on sense if you need a vehicle that can act as estate car, mini bus or van, it can do all of that in its stride.

We've got to agree fully - only we have had no rattle problems. As you say the car is one of practicality, not necessarily looks, but it does everything it says on the packet and very well. The 140 and 170 TDI engines are both outstanding performers, and even better when mated with DSG gearbox. After having 2 DSG VW's, I can't actually understand why anyone would want a manual, especially on the roads today. The DSG is quicker, more economical, and brilliant to drive, and is as smooth as the best conventional autos I've had - if anything, better. In fact I have been so impressed with the DSG box, I have since ordered and received a EOS convertable 2.0 FSI Turbo in DSG - my god that goes!
Well done VW.
