“Generally Awful...”

Written on: 04/01/2013 by Angustoessharpen

As a previous employee of DX I would say that the company itself are awful. I don't have any hostility towards anyone but the general feeling is that these couriers are not able to knock on a door. One caller even told me that a courier turned up intoxicated, this may be a rumour, but who knows. Shocking company, I hope I never get anything delivered by them. I tried to help complaining customers all the time but I felt really helpless as it was constant. I had to quit that job, it was awful. (read more)

“Unreasonable, Unacceptable and Rude”

DX and SMS are the same company. I used DX to get an important document delivered. A computer talks to you and when you get through to a person, their response is "computer says no". Absolutely disgraceful company. Been waiting all day for a delivery and tracking it online (which is useless service too) and no show. Avoid this company. (read more)

As I was supposed to receive my Biometric Resident Permit by post in my home in the following days after my ILR approval on 23 November, I arranged to work from home during the following week to receive the documents personally. Written on: 19/09/2012

When you are at home with your car parked on your driveway and TV switched on (and clearly visible from the front door) and you have a good doorbell and a knocker.THIS SHOULD ENCOURAGE A REASONABLE ATTEMPT TO MAKE DELIVERY. Given that I am not hard of hearing and live in a relatively small house I must conclude that very little, if any, attempt was made to gain my attention before the cards were pushed through my letter box. Although I am normally at home, I really hate being forced to stay... (read more)

“My Partner is a courier for this company!”

Written on: 23/08/2012

My partner has been a courier for them about 8 years. He is like the other couriers treated like dirt by the them. He has to use his own car, his own petrol (up to £130 per week), his own mobile phone and also has to pay for his hand held sat/nav/signature electronic pad which is faulty most days! His route is planned by head office which he has to follow and is all planned wrong which means he has to go miles out of his way each day to get to each delivery point! He gets no incentives. He... Dxcourier's Comment

Written on: 11/01/2013

i am a part time courier for dx and everything the lady said about her husbands experience working for them is true, it's a total disgrace of a company who treat the self-employed couriers like dirt and pay them peanuts.
This is how you are paid...
50p per item delivered and 'apparently' 46p per mile driven.
You are given a manifest of your route which, as explained earlier, can take up half of your morning through no fault of your own due to late delivery of the 'trunk'.
Your route is planed for you on a handheld device which you also have to pay a 'hire' charge for, even if you don't need it. This calculates the distance and therefore the mileage they will pay you however this very rarely accurate or indeed even close to the actual mileage you incur. As this generally is the way you make the majority of your money then if it is out by 30% which it usually is it is then a fair chunk of your wages taken out.
An average working day would start at approx 7am, although you are generally left waiting for the depot to get ready, it takes about an hour or so to sort your deliveries out. All of this time you are not paid for, I have occasionally waited for 3 hours to get ready for us.
The day rate is worked out by the mileage and drop number, after taking away the cost of your diesel and the hire charge of the hand held they force on you, you generally end up with about £60 for 11 hours non stop work. That doesn't even take into consideration the wear and tear on your vehicle and tax etc., there are probably paper boys earning more than a DX courier does.
And, as of this week, a new edict has come in, we don't get paid if we cant leave the package. That means that sometimes, maybe after a 30 mile round trip, if someone is not in to take delivery then we would have wasted half an hour and diesel for nothing.
The couriers really want to deliver your stuff, that's how we get paid, we don't deliberately miss you out, but the job is tougher than you think, you wont believe the amount of houses who don't believe in displaying their house name or number so that you can see it.
It's an awful company to work for, I really pity the guys who rely on it for a living, the morale is very low but the company don't care as they know that in these bad economic times there will always be people desperate for any type of job.
But they will come a cropper with this new rule and loose some big contracts, when couriers look down at their manifest and see that potentially an address is a long way out and could potentially be a waste of time travelling there then they just wont bother going, parcels and passports will be late, customers will get angry and complain. Hopefully it will put a few of the people in charge out of work instead of the poor sods who put the real effort in.

Think we need more of these from existing staff and past couriers. I too have the misfortune of working for this company as a secure delivery driver for dx mail. The secure part makes me laugh for starters as nothing is secure when dx are concerned, valuable items are just left lying around, secure mail is left in insecure places and tracked items often put onto the wrong routes making the already stressed driver more stressed having to hunt the item down. We have timed drops to deliver and often waste our time in the depot sorting out the mistakes of the people who clearly can't read a postcode. The courier of course gets the blame for late delivery. Oh get this, sensitive mail is loaded with liquids, anything from engine oils to household bleach, so im very sorry but your deeds to your house have been accidently destroyed under a sea of oil and ribena with a bit of 'Christ knows what was in that container' for an added bonus ! Yes we carry everthing these days from passports to engine parts and now entire shop stock, all packed into the same van along with your deeds to his house or Percy Princes passport ! Being self employed we are not entitled to holidays and even trying to get a day off is virtually impossible, god help you if you are actually unwell and the contractor will hound you hourly by phoning you to come in. Dx are a law unto themselves where health and safety are concerned too. Weight limits !! What weight limit ? There is none. We don't give a flying monkey if you put your put your back out, but you will deliver the item. Locked fire doors, loading in the rain sleet snow , heck there could be a monsoon and they would still expect you to drag a pallet outside and load up in the dark and monsoon but please make sure you return your pallet to the depot as our staff can't possibly get wet ! The pay is poor for the hours you do and they will add more and more without any extra pay and still expect you to pay your fuel to do more work. Dx lie constantly to its customers and couriers and anything that goes wrong with a delivery is the couriers fault. The scanners which we pay for rarely work. Basically the company have a don't give a toss attitude towards its self employed drivers and do not care if one of the couriers gets injured as they don't employ us. Do not ever work for these people if you value your sanity and health

Hi

I can assure you that DX are a trustworthy organisation who have our customer's requirements at the centre of our operations.

What I can say is that on the rare occasion we do sometimes get (as do all courier companies) unsuccessful deliveries. Now, these can be from genuinely not able to make the delivery, or sometimes it can be down to missed deliveries. This is not accepted by DX and we certainly take any cases of this very seriously.

I would urge you to contact our customer service teams in order to discuss and resolve, as we do not permit non-deliveries to happen. We will certainly try and ensure you get your delivery ASAP.

Please contact me on chris.griffiths@thedx.co.uk in order to provide your tracking number and contact number so that I can order a full investigation in to what happened and why.

Apologies once again for the inconvenience this has caused you.

I'm so angry with this blatant SCAM!! I urge all affected to contact BBC Watchdog. I reviewed my passport three weeks ago and on the 10th march I came home to a "missed you" card. Fair enough I was out all day that day. I phoned TheDX and got through to an automated service. I rearraged the delivery for today between 9am-5pm as other more convenient options required a charge of over £6. I've been up since 7:30 this morning and have not left the house. I have had a similar experience with DX allegedly attempting to deliver my passport and my daughter's. On both occasions we were home but no one had rung the doorbell. I think IPS should reconsider or at least investigating into how many customers have to reschedule a delivery, it's def a scam to get the customers to have to pay calling their premium charge number for a redelivery or as you said to get people to pay for the more expensive time slots. It's ridiculous as we have already paid for the secure delivery of our passports already!

Hi

I can assure you that DX Secure is a safe and secure delivery service. I experience this first hand on a daily basis. However we (like all courier companies) suffer on very rare occasions from poor service and corner cutting from a minority of couriers. They are however fully vetted, and if there are occasions where foul play is suspected, then disciplinary action is immediately taken. I suggest you contact our team to try and investigate how and why this happened. As it is completely unacceptable to not receive your goods on time, every time.

Guy appears at my door having sat out in a wee white van for about half an hour.approx 7.30pm. Asks for my daughter by name and asks DOES SHE LIVE HERE. I stated she was not here and he went to leave. I asked him what this was regarding and he stated that he could not say, I asked him for I.D. he then told me it was a delivery from ticket master and that he could not deliver it unless the mention person was there. eventually I got his I.D. and told him I was unhappy and never heard of such a... Received an e-mail from SMS saying my tickets would be delivered to my work address between 9am & 5pm on 26th May. No sign of them by 4.40pm, so I rang them as the work reception closed at 5pm, and was told they would definitely be there by then. 5pm passed, we closed and I waited outside, and rang them again at 5.30pm. The operator took my number, said he would ring the driver, and call me back. You guessed it, I was never called back, and by 6pm I headed home as there was no sign of any... (read more)

I ordered tickets with See to see Take That. The tickets were being delivered by DX couiers. The tickets never arrived, to date I am £250 down and missed out on the concert. After many an email I was sent a photograph of my front door via email. Indeed it was my house but I never received the tickets.Somehow between the driver taking the picture and putting the tickets through the front door my tickets were err... lost ?? Stolen ?? we had a similar problem with our sons passport. they took a photo of the front of our house and stated that it looked secure, even though the porch was open wide when we left and there is no lock on it, the courier alledgely delivered the passport and in a seperate package was our documents. now we asked and they said that if it looks secure they will post it. well he could not have posted it as the porch was open and all he must have done was close the doors and took a photo. how can a document as sensative as a passport be delivered in this way, when people are trying to gain entry to our country illegally. i personally think he sold it and pretended he had delivered it. we now have to put a claim in for a trip to peterborough to get a new one. shoddy doesnt even come close. i would never have thought the government would use this method. and the aftercare you get, dont get me started.
i agree with above.

I opted for a DX Secure service for the delivery of my Passport from VFS Italy. I applied for a visa on 12th of April and on 14th of April VFS online was showing me that my passport was dispatch along with the DX tracking no. By evening pf 14th April, the DX online was showing me the delivery date of 15th April.

On 15th April, I was getting ready for work and around 9.20 AM, the delivery person came with my passport. Couldn't ask for any better service.

Well done !!

DX / SMS are liars, arrogant and very deceptive. Government agencies should never use a company like them. And on all these cases, I will wait the whole day from 9-5, but no deliveries will ever come. After calling them, they told me the delivery driver couldn't make the delivery as he had too much delivery to make. On one of these occasion, it 8 working days to get my mail. Am... (read more)

Awaiting my new passport. Received a letter in the post (via royal mail) saying they were unable to deliver my passport and to rearrange another delivery date. They didn't bother getting in touch with me about a failed delivery attempt until three days after. I only received a text message and not a letter or calling card which means I cannot arrange to pick up my passport from their office. Paid these guys(DX Secure) on 18th Feb to deliver my passport between 6AM - 8AM after the US Embassy approved my visa.
I wait until 8AM before I leave for work from 21st Feb, no package comes in. On Friday 25th, I find they've left behind a card. I call them on Monday 28th to rebook, the lady asked me to pay again because I wasn't at home. Horrible customer service. Never attempted first delivery, and when rebooking delivery, the person on the phone was so acting so inconceivably dim and either hard of hearing or unable to understand English that I honestly thought she was having a laugh. The fact that this company interviewed and saw fit to hire this person is a great example of their low standards all around. (read more)
