These chumps have got to be the most dis-organised operation in the banking world. Having had 4 calls a day from 'credit control' chasing an overdue payment - having explained twice and confirmed with a letter, my Co had changed the salary day in the month (takeover) and I re-arranged all my DD's with banks & building societies but M&S can't handle this - the computer says no... I've had the card quite along time and no problems but when there is a problem they just want you to ring the 0845 number which will no doubt take me to the call centre in India. My previous experience of this was completely farcical.I am deeply disappointed that having written to the Head of Collections he does not have the courtesy to respond to me in writing when that is my preferred method of communication. I'm a long term M&S customer and getting one of their credit cards seemed to make total sense. At the time I was European Sales Manager for a company and put all of my expenses on the card thereby earning myself M&S vouchers. Sweet. I have done many balance transfers in my time, but this was a first one to an M&S card - it will also be my last! Most companies take your details, take the card details, the details of the other card, read some legal script and complete the transfer after confirming with you - 5 mins max these days and almost always a UK call centre. Had an M&S and More credit card for many, many years. Due to a period of 15 months unemployment about 4 years ago we were reliant on using cards to get by, at the same time meeting all our payments on them. Do these C Centres deliberately generate 'problems' to keep themselves busy.M and Spencer caution is ridiculous and the questions asked by the call centre staff show at times a complete incomprehension of how things work in the UK . On the surface a good card - generous rewards systems, no issues with online banking... I asked for a reason why my MS card was declined for my weekly transaction with the same supermarket. I was emailed saying it was because the card was not activated, but I pointed out it was a month before, and had been used subsequently with the same supermarket. My mum forgot to pay one item on her m & s statement for £38. She did pay the rest of £271 within the timeframe yet m & s applied interest to the whole £309. Now I understand if interest was on the £38 but to add it to all of it is daylight robbery. I was considering getting a card myself but definitely wont be now. (read more)

For the second time running we experienced problems using credit card abroad despite telephoning before hand to let them know our travel plans. We used in New York to pay hotel bill, got on a plane, and by the time we got to LA, my wife's card had been stopped due to a supposed suspicious transaction. I've had an M&S credit card for about ten years. Periodically they suspect online fraud and cancel my account. They last did this a couple of weeks ago just before I was going on holiday, despite my confirming that the 'suspicious' internet transaction was genuine. When I objected to being left without a credit card all the time I was away - they couldn't get a replacement to me before I left - they agreed they would keep the original card open for face-to-face transactions. My last card bill came having paid off a small debit balance of £2.88 by direct debit - as normal. An accompanying letter told me that I had failed to make a payment, I had broken my contract with M&S Bank, I could be subject to legal action, and my credit rating could be adversely affected. Very over cautious, putting a freeze on your account for nearly everything, especially if you try to use it abroad or buy online - Im sure its just a way of making money out of you having to phone long distance and keeping you on hold, or never phoning you back, so you have to keep phoning them. A credit card is no use if you cant use it abroad on holiday and despite M&S being told your circumstances, they still seem to refuse any transaction abroad, then you are without a card/money. I... I have had an M&S credit card for 9 years and have always been happy with it. However, since I made a balance transfer in July 2012 I have had nothing, but terrible service! Just a truly awful product. I've had it for 4 months and still haven't been able to register online to make payments as the site never works. Sadly I don't have a working land-line and predictably the number to make a payment is an 0845 which is very expensive from my mobile. Despite entering everything it asked correctly on the automated system it kept reading random numbers back to me. Worst mistake i ever made was getting an M&S credit card. Always getting charged a late payment fee as their system is always down and payment doesnt complete on their end, my direct debit was also cancelled by them for no reason which another payment fee incurred. Card never works, when i go to pay in a shop it declines and when i constantly have to call the helpline with problems they decide to put a lock on my card. AVOID GETTING THIS CARD!! (read more)

I have the same experience as mentioned elsewhere - the continual failure of the server when trying to check my account. The "unexpected host error" is NOT unexpected - it happens virtually every time. Last time after entering my user name entirely accurately everything disappeared and another page came up wanting all my security details as if i was logged out for making repeated mistakes. I decided to have a shop around for a new credit card with a good rate and came across three, one being the M&S card. approval and credit limit was great no problems. Decided to use the card for a business trip to china, so contacted them and again no problems. using the card again no problem. This card was ok for me for a while. we got M&S rewards when we used it and no fee for having it. Because of a small payment error we got charged a HUGE fee for not paying all the balance. The fee was way out of proportion and when we phoned to have the issue resolved it was impossible to understand what the assistant was saying. The assistant also couldn't understand us. I've held an &More card since 2003 when it was introduced. Until last year I loved it because of the generous loyalty scheme and I never carry a big balance for over a month unless I'm in the process of paying for a holiday or something. The M&S credit card is by far the worst card I have had and the most hastle. Whenever I go out shopping with the card it gets declined after a few transactions, and I am now on my third card as apparantly my other two have been "compromised" although nothing has been taken out of my accoutn and they won't elaborate further. I have never had a positive customer service experience when I have spoken to them on the phone - the call is always faint and they are badly trained and out of touch. (read more)

What a tedious way to run a card scheme. VERY small opening balance - which apparently needs to run for 6 months before they up the credit limit. M&S don't seem to pay any attention to credit ratings... already hacked off and have only had the card for 2 months! I have a direct debit to pay the full balance each month. Got back from holiday to a nasty letter and statement telling me I had not paid anything for September therefore had incurred a £ 12 late/non payment penalty charge under the terms and conditions of service to which I had agreed, would be charged interest, and must remit the minimum payment immediately.

I've had a M&S card since they launched it, and I have to say that until recently it was great - I pay it off every month and they send me plenty of vouchers, so no problems there.
For the last few months however they have 'stopped' my card more times than I care to remember. They stop it, I wait for a couple of weeks for a new one, and two weeks later they stop it again. Very high interest rates that have just been raised again from October 2010..Asked customer services to review my interest rate and not interested..Will balance transfer this card and not use them again..Also seem to remember that they have declined transactions on this card several times when I use it abroad...They expect me to phone them each time I go to USA and warn them that I might be using the card to buy some dinner! Do not get a M&S credit card if you intend to use it abroad or for internet transactions. Every time I go abroad my card is declined. Imagine then, the hassle of trying to get the card reinstated whilst out of the country. At best it takes 48 hours! The same occurs on-line. Despite my obvious spending patterns, the security software constantly blocks my card and I have the inconvenience of getting it reinstated.

The most terrible service you can ever imagine. Card APR is promoted as 15% online however after few years my APR have suddenly become 28% when bank of England rate is 0.5%. This is daylight robbery. Not to mention the most terrible cash advance rates and service charges. (read more)

Be warned...I have not received a statement for 2 months and did not notice as I have several credit cards and a life. The first I knew of this was a letter warning me about my arrears, most of which is charges for non payment. I called and paid straight away, but no fee's refunded and the possibility of my credit rating being damaged. Has anyone else not received statements recently? (read more)

Terrible service from M&S. I did a balance transfer for one of their 0% interest periods and regretted it straight away. The minimum payment is much higher than any other card, the loyalty scheme is a joke, the vouchers never end up getting to you and no point ringing the customer service line as they are useless! I called them today to close my account and they told me that they could not deal with that but they would get someone to call me in 24-48 hrs. So obviously I kicked up a fuss.... (read more)

I have been using M&S cards for over 4 years. Due to a human error, I under paid M&S by 70p. To my surprise, they charged me £45 for interest. When I got in touch with customer service, the only thing they could tell me is that this is in their terms and conditions that they charge interest on any outstanding balance at the beginning of the month. The loyalty vouchers they send out get lost in the post all the time. I am fairly sure I won't be using it anymore. (read more)

We've had an M&S Card for about 10 years and paid the full balance off each and every month......My husband got some cash out on his card whilst abroad a few months ago....on £197 he was charged £5.89 cash advance fee (that's fine, we expect them to charge this fee), but they also charged a £2.53 Interest Fee - even though we paid off the full balance on our card that month !! I have had many credit cards over the years and thought I would give M&S a try, afterall the advert said they had won awards. It was a dreadful experience, very poor and intelligible customer service. It really isn't doing M&S's reputation any favours. They are lucky that have to recieve at lesat one star.

I would not recommend this Marks and Spencer & More Card to anyone, they have a bizarre way of crediting money to your account. I am in the process of trying to get interest refunded to me as like the previous reviewer I posted my February payment cheque for the full amount in store with plenty of time and my cheque was debited to my account within a couple of days and over a week before payment was due but still have interest added. Three months ago, one payment took over 20 days to appear on the account, after posting it in store, and I was dismayed to find the interest charge of over £6 for their fault when the next statement arrived. My partner has a credit card with Marks and Spencer I arranged a balance transfer and there is a small balance on there. I arranged to pay the remaining balance today and phoned the credit card line to see what the balance is and its gone up by £64.43 although the current balance has been £146.22 for quite a while. Had the misfortune to deal with M&S call centre employee yesterday, possibly the most frustrating, ill-informed and ultimately wasteful half hour of my life. I applied for an M&S credit card in some time ago. It's taken them four weeks to inform me that my application has been accepted and to send me a credit agreement to sign and return to them. I imagine it will be another couple of weeks before I receive the card. When I've tried to chase it they've been very unhelpful, just muttered something about having a backlog of applications. Seems like some in customer services will refuse to close my account although it ' s been at a zero balance since 11th November. Had an outstanding balance of just £8.42 and have been charged interest of £20.27! The call centre is in Asia and was useless. The interest they tell me is charged on the full amount of the item, so they have selected my most expensive charge. Feel really ripped off and have cut the card up and will not shop there again. I applied for an M&S credit card. Hear nothing for some weeks. My finances are healthy so should be no problem.
Finally tried to chase through the number on their website. Waited ages to be connected and was finally connected to a call centre with a staff member who was very difficult to understand. Finally I worked out that the message was "due to technical difficulties we can't give you any information - call back later".

Like the last reviewer my interest rate has gone up 2% for no good reason. Have ordered credit report today but know we have no problems. Had immense problems after using credit card abroad, apparently they have to be informed of every trip abroad, how useless! get connected to robots who have no idea of what you are talking about, if you can understand them that is.

WARNING! M&S Apply massive 4% hike to &More card interest rate for no apparent reason.
DO NOT get this card. For no reason the interest rate on mine has gone from 18.9% to 22.9% with no change in status or anything else. All payments are made on-time by direct debit, card is below limit.
That is a 20% RISE in Interest Rate!
M&S call centre do not no why and just say "nothing can be done about it". Answer:- Yes it can! The card is cut up and I am not shopping there again. (read more)
