Good Points: looks seat height.
Bad Points: Multinational corporation.
General comments: Love the Yamaha Serow, but hate the dealerships. Can have both because you can do almost all maintainence yourself!

I made my own exhaust which changed the Yamaha Serow's performance considerably.
I use my bike for green laning and enduro's and don't get left behind.
Probably the best genuine trail bike ever made, it copes with anything thrown at it and never breaks down. Runs all day on a tank full of petrol.

High level front mudguard on the Yamaha Serow is useless for most purposes - replaced by Sammy Miller Honda TL125 fork brace/mudguard mount (a little bolthole filing, and fixed to forks with 48mm U-bolt exhaust clamps) and plastic trials mudguard, keeps me clean. Yellow gaiters impossibe to clean and become brittle with age - again Sammy Miller replacements. Took my first Serow around Scotland, including Outer Hebrides - ideal for getting off the road and down across the machair to camp in the d ...

Riding my Yamaha XT225 was my first introduction to the world of motor bikes and I feel that she was the perfect choice for such an endeavour! She enabled me to charge up steep rocky hills, wade my way through sticky mud and to make jumping over small (or not so small) jumps a breeze. She is light weight, compact, reliable and stylish- what more could you possibly want in a bike?

I am 60 years old and was looking for a dual purpose bike that I could put both my feet on the ground when it was stopped and this bike has really fit my needs. It is really fun to ride on the street and the trails. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a light weight bike to ride around town and on the trails.

I got this Yamaha XT225 Serow 225 when I was in Guinea West Africa and a never driven a motorbike with such an easy and powerful feeling on breaky tracks (excuse my broken English, I'm a French speaker and learned English off-road too!). You can ride on sand (abuse accelerator in curves) or rock shaking tracks and really enjoy it without hassle. I'm a bit of a warrior on hot wheels, but with my Serow I was able to ride 300 km of pure tough rural and tropical red west African swamp "roads" a day! ...

I researched the XT225 alot before I bought my bike in May/04. It was a leftover '03 and I think I got a pretty good deal on it. I have had a great time on this bike riding over 4700 km(almost 3000 miles) over pavement, hard packed dirt roads, mud trails, and thru woods, hills and valleys. I am 53 years old, now retired, 5-10 tall and 250 lbs light (ha-ha) and this little bike has hauled my butt over everything. This bike runs excellent all day at 65-80 kmph (40-50 mph) on pavement or gravel roa ...

I bought a new Yamaha XT225 Serow 2252004 and have put over 3,000 miles on it, mostly on the street. I absolutely love it. It is a lightweight, fun to ride, go anywhere dual sport motorcycle with a 6-speed transmission and electric starter. Although it is capable of highway speeds, it is much more comfortable on secondary roads. I've also heard it is a capable off road trail bike. It is not the most powerful motorcycle in the world, but I find it satisfies all of my power needs. Because it i ...

My Yamaha XT225 Serow was an excellent bike. Actually, it was my first bike and it was perfect to learn on. It seemed forgiving when I made mistakes and, when I started to make fewer mistakes, the bike was even more fun. It was geared down for some light trail riding but still had the power I wanted on the road. Plus, it's light and narrow so it's easy to whip the thing around just about any curve...whether zipping down a street or swerving around a tree.

I bought this Yamaha XT225 Serow 225 offroad bike as a "refresher ride" to see if I wanted to return to dirt-bike riding. I did not want to have to trailer in to my ride spots, I wanted a commuter to get to work and I wanted fuel economy and low-maintenance. This bike has met all my expectations. It will not satisfy the hardcore horsepower hungry type, but as a starter or for someone like me who is testing the water (again), I highly recommend.

The Yamaha XT225 Serow 225 is an excellent trail bike. If all you want is to trail ride with a little road work it's fantastic. It won't stay with the KTM's of this world but who cares. Gentle green laning is what this bike is about. Loads of easy to get spares from Fowlers of Bristol or Riders of Yeovil (probably loads of others). The bike is very robust in the engine and cycle parts. Electric start is handy too. Get one
