Good Points: A corker of a release, including two very different B-Sides that are a must for any fan of the band.
Bad Points: No bad points at all...just some great tracks to sit back and enjoy.
General comments: Wildhearts, Urge [CD2] - Back in October of 1997 we saw the Mushroom Records release of the 'Urge' singles, which formed the second single to come from the album 'Endless Nameless'. Like the 'Anthem' singles, 'Urge' was brought out on two CDs and a 7" vinyl, which sported a joint total of five extra B-Sides. The single managed to slot itself in at number 26 in the UK charts. Here we have part two of the CDs.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Urge
2. Zomboid
3. Genius Penis
'Urge' is just one of those tracks that just seems to work so damn well. It blasts out some of the deepest bass I've ever heard, combined with wild distortion and unforgettable vocals. 'Urge' is a fantastic industrial rock anthem that grows on you with every listen.
The next track on the single is the B-Side 'Zomboid'. The track starts off as a rock 'n' roll riot and progresses into a fast-paced industrial/punk number with some haunting vocals from frontman Ginger. 'Zomboid' delivers some chunky riffs, armoured with the 'Endless Nameless' distortion and a dash of drum machine thrown in for good measure. The noise value to the track increases to a hectic and dramatic ending that burns deep into your skull.
On the other hand, we have the third and final track on the CD - 'Genius Penis'. This comical cause for concern was created by none other than the drummer Richie Battersby. The track delivers a catchy chorus of repetition with some glorious female backing vocals. A song that is not to be taken too seriously, but guarantees to cheer up the most blue of moods!
