I have been using Fasthosts for 2 years now. They have been ok so far. Very few price increases. And good customer support. However on the 4th Jan 2014 they were down for the whole morning! Their own website was down! And all my websites were down. Except for this glitch they have been serving me well.

I'm not overly happy wiht Fasthosts. I've been using them for nearly four years and intiially it was great, very easy to set up my first site and I was happy. I now feel completely trapped and have several monthly direct debits taken out that I can't control. I've got a virtual server but still pay for hosting seperately as they don't make it particularly easy to transfer. They also look for every opportunity to charge a bit extra. And they are expensive

Having had to purchase extra bandwidth monthly is a issue which is making me condsider cancelling/moving my "Blog" account, as I am out of the country several times in any given year. Should I forget to log on monthly and purchase more bandwidth this would cause my account to be locked and the Blog inoperative. This was not explained in the initial sign up concerning a Blog site. I find this very concerting. Surely this must be "fixed" asap, and the facility of paying alongside the normal account fees for extra bandwidth is more common sense than the comment "the facility is not available". 100`s if not 1000`s of people signing in every month to upgrade bandwidth at £1.20 per Gig inc vat must be a headache for your accounts department never mind your account holders. Thanx Peter

Don't waste your money.
Awful costomer service. I had a query so rang the customer service line, couldn't get through so, I email the Support line from their website but received no answer. I rang the support line again and eventually got through to find that the support team arn't even in this country. I complained and basically got shrugged off with a standards reply email.
If you want good customer support, forget this lot.

I have only been with Fasthosts for a few months as a reseller. I was previously with servage and I still host a number of sites with them too. With previous host my sites were constantly down or subject to database gone away issues. That is why I moved to Fasthosts for my newer clients.
So far I have found fasthosts email support just about satisfactory. I have had one incident of bad information from their telephone support too. However, I have mostly had good interactions with them. Their staff seem more educated and level headed than many I have encountered.
The actually hosting service has been fair to good so far. There are a number of restrictions that I have encountered with fasthosts.
For instance you need to send a mail to or from a fasthosts hosted email account for the php mail function to work. Not a big deal, but it defeats the way I sometimes like to work.
Their standard email account is ok, but lacks smtp and as some ISPs no longer offer it, it strands some users forcing them to pay £11.50 a time + for advanced email accounts. To balance this, their webmail system is both neutrally branded and very advanced compared to others.
You can't use many .htaccess methods with them either, but their default setup is quite robust and actually involves less coding for me as some features like *no indexes* are defaulted. I also found that they didnt support some php methods like *get browser*. I used different methods. I also used jsweb for one client for whom I developed a modded zen-cart based site. It needed .htaccess modifications which I couldn't spare the time to figure out work arounds for.
Another issue I have encountered is that they allow you only a single 150MB database unless you want to pay extra per annum. I was used to a database per client, but can easily prefix tables within the single database instead. I can fit up to 2000 clients in their database the way I work, so no big deal.
Fasthosts standard features are ok. Not generous really, but ok.
The issues that I have had require a bit of recoding, learning or hard swallowing when migrating sites onto fasthosts compared to more open cheaper services like servage, but its not a big deal, just a minor inconvenience. If it keeps their servers working smoothly then I don't have a problem with it. I haven't found anything I couldn't work around yet.
A reseller account which never had to pay for extra features would be rare on fasthosts where they might be common on servage. But what is the point of a cheaper service if it is often unavailable? So far I have only had very brief delays on fasthosts for which I am grateful.
The service is outperforming servage by a fair degree. I might get a delay in connection sometimes, but servage databases regularly go away for up to 15 minutes at a time - which is obtuse!
All in all, I recommend fasthosts for those who can't afford a dedicated server and don't want to twiddle their thumbs using cheaper services such as servage while some other schmoe gets the business!
Look into what they offer and pay extra special attention to what they do NOT allow before buying, but most of the reviews I have read here are worse than my experience by far. Saying that I have only been with them for a couple of months, so we'll see. I view them as a good choice overall. Particularly factoring in their 3 month free trial period. I was lucky enough to get in on their 6 months free package.

I've not had any complaints and was surprised at the negative feedback here so thought I'd say something. I think they are a little pricey for what they give (an mysql database for £25 when others are offering it free with a basic hosting package). Customer support don't seem overly trained on being helpful but technically they know what they're talking about and have been good at answering technical questions for me. The number of times you need to log in and out of the control panel for various things is a little excessive. Like someone else said there was a security issue at the end of 2007 but they seemed to jump on it quite quickly and it didn't effect me so I can't really have any complaints there. A pretty decent service for me.

Hello,
<br/>
<br/>My name is James and I work for Fasthosts. Thanks for your feedback regarding the bandwidth limitations on the blogware service. I have passed your feedback onto the relevant department to take into consideration when we review the blog service we currently offer.
<br/>
<br/>I would recommend moving your blog to a Wordpress platform on the Fasthosts Linux shared servers. They have unlimited bandwidth and you can install Wordpress with one click.
