I'm not overly happy wiht Fasthosts. I've been using them for nearly four years and intiially it was great, very easy to set up my first site and I was happy. I now feel completely trapped and have several monthly direct debits taken out that I can't control. I've got a virtual server but still pay for hosting seperately as they don't make it particularly easy to transfer. They also look for every opportunity to charge a bit extra. I've too had issues with FastHosts dating back 18 months, have until now just let them take the money as the information they gave me at the time I took as correct, however this is not the case. If your looking to build a website avoid this company like the bubonic plague. I have been with Fasthosts for 8 years using Webhosting, email hosting, domain reg and dedicated servers. I have always found them to be 1st Class, i don't know were these reviews come from. For me they are always extremely professional the support is excellent, its a reliable service and the products do what they say (unlike many other providers!). I purchased a VPS from Fasthosts on a 3 month intro deal and tied in for a year - no problems as understood . I went onto the site in a hope of purchasing a dedicated server as I liked the fact that their servers were based in the UK. I asked the sales person on live chat if this was the case as to which he said yes they were co-located in the UK. Fasthosts are undoubtedly the most unhelpful, deliberately obstructive and dis-organised company I have ever encountered. Their technical support is in a sweatshop in Calcutta and communication is difficult to put it mildly. God forbid you should ever have a problem...in my case my site went down and they would not allow me access to renew my domain (but were very happy to continue to take payments). Closed down an account in 2010 and thought nothing of it. On 14th February I get a letter (the first I've ever had from them!) claiming £80. They'd been taking money for 3 years, in spite of my closing the account (more fool me for not noticing it before). Got them to drop it. I made it clear that if they didn't back-down and close the account (and drop their demands for money) I'd go after them for taking money for the last three years - fraudulently. They don't like that word (not surprisingly!).
I sent a letter giving them 14 days to close the account and waive fees (though made it clear that I was satisfied it was already closed), and said that it would be up to a court to decide whether I'd sent the email and they'd not logged it properly or that I hadn't sent it.
I pointed out that the hundreds of complaints on here with people having exactly the same issue made it clear that they were either not logging correctly, or knew full well I'd cancelled but choosing to ignore which is fraud. And that if it went to court - they'd look at their behaviour and background and conclude Fasthosts in wrong.
Also helps if you make a stink on Facebook and Twitter.
They'll still play hardball - but I took up so much time, made such a nuisance of myself (whilst pointing out it was costing them more to deal with me than the money that they were claiming) that I think they thought it easier and wiser to simply make me go away!
They dropped their claim if i agreed not to go to court and accuse them of fraud!

don't be astonished - it really is like this when things go wrong. you probably are a good webmaster and do things properly - but if you make a mistake, lose some data, need some kit replaced perhaps in a special way then these guys are hopeless. unsympathetic, bound by unethical policy. i used them in 1997 because they were a young and dynamic company offering what was only available in the USA at the time but it was soon clear that despite their enthusiasm they couldn't keep a server up and running for long. i l left them for a small company with whom I've been with all these years and you get good personal service. if you get a couple of thousand page requests a day on your site then you don't need to go with the Asda boys of Internet hosting. Avoid 1&1 too :)

I found their website tools simple but very limited, did not use their website for more then a year. I was not aware of their autorenewal T&C, which are unfair, unethical and almost impossible to adhere to. Fasthost has the right to communicate all year round with you by e-mail and any e-mail send by them counts as being received by you. Wow what a big mistake using this company, I tried canceling over 2 years ago but they just ignored my request and took money of a card I asked to be registered with them. I have just had the same problem. My name is on the account and there are pursuing ME even though the account was opened in my clients name, paid by her and her address is down as contact details.
I explained that there website is very misleading in that auto-renewal is not on and they try to fob you off saying that auto-domain renewal and auto-account renewal are two different things. no account closure via official channels and you pay up simples!
We will now not recommend them to any new clients.

Even to this day fasthost.co.uk is extremely unreliable. Your website will be down 70%-80% of the time and wouldn't load on any platform mac or windows or even over a 3G network on you idevices. A shame I couldn't give 0 stars, purely based on cancellation policy and their poor invoicing and payment collection service. Do not use under any circumstance. The sell themselves as UK based company but when you need customer support you are transfered over to the US. This is a deceitful company, who will squeeze every last penny from you, whether they are providing a service or not. Their terms and conditions of service are 'unreasonable' and, I suspect, some time soon they will be taken to court by consumer rights groups. We decided to try Fasthosts on a non-profit website, a small forum, not many visitors. As soon as we uploaded it to them the site would not work. We contacted support who stated it was a Faasthosts issue and fixed it. Then it went down again, a different issue, fixed again, then it went down again, only the third time all night. For a start the service is terrible, I had a domain and used their webmail. The webmail was woeful both in terms of interface and their supposed spam filter which let through 75% of stuff I didn't want and blocked perfectly legitimate e-mails from friends for no apparent reason. Their mobile service was extremely poor also having to resort to the phone browser to check e-mails. I was lead to believe I would be able to simply set up a site for my new business - I have had issue after issue and still do not have a site up and running. It looks really unprofessional as images either appear as a red cross or only half down load so that only half an image shows. A year ago Fasthost has misled me when sold a dedicated server which they claim to be able to migrate hosting accounts from server with another provider. As we discovered very quickly It was not able to migrate anything because “for security reasons” they block number of ports which needed for software on the server to work properly.
