I had Excite mail since 1997. I finally stopped using it this year when I purchase an HTC 8X phone which uses the windows OS. I could like my gmail and microsoft accounts but could not link my excite account. I have found that being notified that I have e-mail whenever I use my phone so usefull that I stopped using Excite. I have had my excite email account since 1997. Over the past several years the service has been in rapid decline. The problems I have encountered range from login page failing to be displayed, unable to login, email box loading slowly, email box failing to load. Received failure to deliver notices for emails I did not send (possible caused by a virus on their servers), and now since the past four days (beginning 3/20/13) I cannot send or receive emails. I have been with Excite for over 15 years. Loading is beyond horrible. What happened Excite ?????? Cannot get the site to load. Have tried from three different computers at three different sites. All other sites load just fine. Forget to pay your maintenance fees ??? (read more)

I've had Excite for 10 years now and have watched it go downhill. I just use it for websites that are sure to send me spam. Friends emails were not received, causing me to miss out on news they wanted to share. How do you lose emails? How can that happen? (read more)

This used to be better, but it was never good. I needed several email addresses for several purposes. For a while it was the email address from which I got Yahoo group emails. That was back when excite was relatively easy to use. Then came the day it was all gone. Well, it wasn't. It was temporarily unavailable. I thought this company had went to the dogs but really how low have they gone.
I logged onto www.excite.com tonight to check an old e-mail account and the top banner was titled "Hot Videos" with pics of semi naked girls.
Personally I would not care normally but this is meant to be a family site is it not? or has that changed recently?
My 10 year old daughter was sitting beside me and wasnt really an image i thought suitable for her age. (read more)

I've had Excite email for many years (1998/1999). I've been with them through Excite(at)Home and Freelane. After a few years, it seems as though they lost their source of talent. Since they've signed on with BlueTie it has been awful. They were once in the lead group on the internet; now it seems they're vying for a slow death.
* Emails take too long to arrive (if at all)
* Does not always work with Internet Explorer (may not be bad for others)

I had excite as my primary mail service, however since the improvements I have switch over to a different mail service that works. It became very slow and most time unresponsive. Found it to be more of a hassle. Don't even bother with this service. There are far better mail services out there then this. (read more)

I've had an email account with excite.com since around 1992.
It has become more frustrating in the last several years with slow or non working email services. There is absolutely the worst support or no support for problem resolution. Do not open an email account with the site. They use Blue Tie for their mail system and it is tough to get help from them also. (read more)

Since it was "improved" excite has turned into a nightmare. Lockups, lost mail, delayed mail, no service. It sometimes takes days to receive emails from friends and family. Needs negative ratings and now what is with the Sponsor thing where all these junk things pop up before you get to see your mail.
Not going back and I presume they will lose all money from advertisements.
Saw USA.NET go through this years ago and now it is Excite's turn.

Excite.com Email Service Gets an "F"
I really liked excite.com and used it for many years until the email was "improved" and taken over by bluetie.com It is now a disaster. Only about 1 out of every 5 emails sent to me by friends ever make it through. When I open many emails, all you get is a blank screen. I did happily discover that I could read these emails if I forwarded them back to myself but then the links don't work. And should I have to do this? Of course not.

Having used Excite Email as my primary email account for more than ten years, I am furious that the "new format" has rendered the service so awful. At the very least, one should be able to access their account at any time, not just during the sporadic intervals that it is available. Like other reviewers, I have gotten a blank screen for the last two days when trying to log on. Not the first time. Unacceptable. I have had nothing but problems since the "new and improved" Excite Email format began. I regularly get a blank screen when I click the envelope icon that says "my email". It's always really slow. I honestly can't believe Excite would completely ruin their email and then not fix it. I now use Yahoo for 90% of my emails. I'm sure Excite lost thousands of other users as well. (read more)

I've had excite email for years. With the new email, it never did work well and now it won't work at all! The new system is terrible and I can only get my email once a week at best, until this week, which is coming up with a gigantic zero. How to turn a great, simple, email service into a giant pain. I have had excite.com for at least 11 years. I used to find it great and easy to use. Ever since the so-called upgrade, it has been horrible. Presently, for over 36 hours I have not been able to even log on to view my E-mail to see the spam that I always get now or any other E-mail. I've been using Excite Mail since the early 90s. I loved it then because it was quick and free. But the new Excite Mail is ridiculously slow!!!!! Almost completely unusable for me now.
I can no longer use it as my main email account. I've been migrating all my email over to another service. I'm really glad I did. But every once in a while, I'd log into my old Excite account just to see if things have gotten quicker. Sadly, it's still crazy slow and bloated. Good bye Excite Mail. (read more)

Slow as cold tar. Hangs with every browser I use except for the one at work. Message selection/deletion/etc. Often lags seconds or even minutes behind mouse clicks and results in the wrong messages being deleted and/or moved. Hypertext links fail to work in the preview window mandating additional windows be opened. Spends more time downloading Flash Player ads than retrieving my email.

I am looking for a new email provider although I have had excite.com as my email provider and home page for years, I have already switched away from it as my home page. Worst email system I have ever experienced. I have been an excite email user since 2004, and enjoyed using it daily. But after excite changed the email system last summer 2008, checking emails became a nightmare. I recently switched to gmail, and only occasionally check my excite account. I am surprised by the high number of junk emails, which was not a problem with the old system. Also, if you send an email, there are adverts at the bottom, some of which are insulting. (read more)

I've been using excite for something like 8 years and hasn't put a foot wrong with its basic retro html, comfortable and easy to use and quickly loaded!
The new, however is slow, bulky and basically what everyone else has stated here.
But the most annoying thing about the new layout is the physical layout itself. The Ads are put in utterly stupid places, it's incomprehensible, nothing deletes properly, the boxes don't resize properly; which is a stupid function anyway.

Excite was excellent and easy to use but now its gone downhill for me personally. It is slow, awkward and I now can't find half my stuff. I have had two Excite email accounts for ten years. I use them every day. This upgrade is horrible in my opinion... I really can't just shut these accounts down because I receive important email there. But I will as soon as possible.

After 10 years of having an excite e-mail address. I can no longer use it because of the lack of speed and efficiency. Usually after having the same e-mail for so long it is extremely difficult to change. But with excites new version, it was an easy choice to drop them completely. I agree with the preceding reviewers: It is probably the worst "upgrade" I have ever seen on a website.
I have used excite email since its beginning, when it was called mail excite, but after the changes I am now telling all my friends to switch to my new g-mail instead. (read more)
