My GO510 never connected to the computer. TOMTOM sent a replacement dock which didn't work. After several email communications they asked for it to be sent in for repair and they then kindly replaced it with a 710, but I lost the POIs that were with the original and although the replacement connected and downloaded from my PC, it can't pick up GPS transmissions! I'm awaiting TOMTOM's response to this. Their support team are friendly and helpful, but there do seem to be problems with reliability.

Easy to use
Reasonably accurate maps
TomTom make pretty good products [I've had 3 of their satnavs now] but if I ever hit a problem then the online support has been universely awfull for me. They seem to make you jump through hoops even for the smallest things.
A good product let down by their support!

I would not be buying another TomTom 510 as it is so unreliable and in the middle of a journey the signal can be lost suddenly.

Currently in communication with Tom Tom about repairs to my TomTom 510 which seems to be a common fault ie will not switch on after being left on to charge and thats it!

The Tom Tom Go 510 seems to have given up the ghost after only 18 months
bad picture of location for reset button, no trouble shooting page in book.

New to Sat Nav I thought it was Ok and indeed it does half a job OK. Don't even think of updating it or trying to contact customer support. They evidently couldn't care less about after sales service.

I am unable to access some of the services because my 12 month old Motorola phone is not compatible.

TomTom Go 510's product support e-mail facility has shut down and even following telephone assurances that I would receive an answer before I went on holiday (to Italy). This has not happened. On the other hand you can visit the same website and purchase as many accessories or plus services as you desire. Copyright protection is one thing, but complex, in-depth and ineffectual encryption is not what I (the long suffering customer) want to deal with.

I have returned one TomTom 500 already because it shut down and would not work. The second unit has now done the same but, a trawl of the web revealed that if you turn the unit upside down, in the section where the shoe clips in, at the front, there is a small hole with "Reset" on one side, and an arrow on the other. With power on, I used a paper clip and pressed into the hole and now, it works again. Amazing!

I have been trying to get TomTom Go map updates for two months. I sent an e-maill and didn't receive an answer for many days. I finally was contacted by someone and refered to someone else, but they were not helpful. There is no way I was able to find a way to phone support. I would not recommend this company because of poor support system.

Impressed with the Jaguar SatNav in my new car bought three-years ago I decided that the other vehicles could do with a transportable unit. The Tom Tom GO 700 was purchased from Super Etrader, delivered free within 24 hours and worked straight from the box. It routed me safely from the UK to Southern Spain without drama and then failed. I tried many hardware resets to no avail. The unit powered up but the touch screen control just flashed the screen brightness and defied all attempts to access the menus. Tom Tom I have never managed to contact and doubt if anyone ever will. Super Etrader did honour the money back gaurantee even after 30 days, but failed to refund the return postage which they are legally obliged to do. Life is too short to spend long chasing £7.40! I would buy another if the technical support improved and I was assured that the earlier hardware/software/firmware problems had been fixed.

I have now gone back to using the cheap Medion PDA satellite Navigation system as it is far superior. With the Medion you can choose a town, set preferences which include - avoid motorways, Fast route, shortest route, non of these are available on the TomTom Go. Also I had the Tom Tom replaced as it kept losing the signal but the replacement is no better. It is slow to update and has led me down the wrong turn off on roundabouts on a number of occassions. Very dissapointed.

I agree, the product is great till you hit a problem then they don't want to know. Customer service is non existant!
