Good Points: Got a great free upgrade from a Dodge Charger to a Chrysler 300
Bad Points: When I took the Chrylser back my flight was delayed so I hired a car for another day. Asked for a Dodge Charger and was told none available but smaller version almost identical. It was a rubbish! Cheap, nasty rubbish. Such a shame after the Chrysler which was total class!
General comments: The lines are a bit long but the staff are very friendly. Really quick and easy and you get what you pay for.
The Chrysler 300 was gorgeous definitely hiring another next time even I have to pay the extra. The little Dodge thing was rubbish.

I am in the process of taking this further. How do I prove that I did not do any of the things charged when it was never checked in my presence and it was left at the dealership over the weekend? Customer Service department tell me that I was responsible for the vehicle for 6 working hours after hire charge ended. I am yet to find this in print. To say that I am not happy is an understatement. If you really have to hire from Alamo insist on a check before taking the vehicle and at the end o ...

Booked a seven seater through travel agent, arrived at Orlando. First thing they want is your credit card, then they pushed for a up grade, which I agreed the price, swipe your card hay presto they charge you for recovery then they charged me for a full tank of fuel which I paid already with original booking for the 7 seater. When I realised a day after when not tired, went to see them about it and got fobbed off. They will not be used again.

After a very long trip from Gatwick to Florida you don't really need someone in your face pushing you to upgrade your chosen rental (as it happens when it was obvious we weren't going to upgrade he told us to take ANY of the 7 seater cars).
No, we only wanted to pay for the tank of petrol as agreed with Auto Europe - we repeated over and over.
They added charge for "roadside assistance" without even a mention and proferred the agreement for signature with all this info on the other side.
Take yo ...

We rented a Camry hybrid in Oakland and loved it! It had electronic ignition and had no key, so after we became accustomed to it we found it very economical and enjoyable. It had great power and acceleration and we got about 34 mpg! The staff was patient and helpful and I think our experience with Alamo was positive in every way.We found this experience very enjoyable and positive. We'll definitely work with Alamo again if the price is comparable with other companies. No bad points in our expe ...

if you want to hire a car in Oz and you book it from here(UK) make sure you have in writing the exact amount of extra charges that have to be payed when you collect the car. Make sure the insurance covers any damage or loss to the vehicle otherwise you may be in for a nasty surprise when you return it.

Alamo has a clever way to double or triple the bill of unsuspecting customers.
Over the web, I arranged to rent a car from Alamo for 5 days and received a special weekly rate of $149. My return plans changed and I had to return the car on the fourth day. I fully expected to pay the entire $149 as I agreed and wasn't looking for a pro-rated charge - in fact the confirmation email states that early returns on special weekly rates are not entitled to a proportionate refund.
Fine. What I w ...

We're planning to rent a car for 6 weeks, got a car with Alamo Car Hire, the first week was ok. Then the car had broken.
We called Alamo Los Angeles, they never sent any tow truck or new car. We had to wait / talk on the prepaid cellphone for 2 hours. What we were talking about was mainly not the car, but the wrong contract. They messed up our contract, put someone's name on our profile. We told them the car # and key # and everything, but they said the contract name was not us. Well, that thei ...

I Booked a car that would accommodate 4 adults and a child, when I went for the car it was too small, so had to upgrade $140 per week extra.
Car service light was on, tax on number plate was 2 years out of date, no water in screen wash bottle, wipers needed replacing really bad visibility so had to pull over, every time it rained.
I think the car needed a good service, never again will I use Alamo.

Renters beware of Alamo. If you return early, their contract is written to rip you off. I travel a lot but never have encountered such stupid contracts, being charged double for an early return. Their business model is simply based on needless extra charges for their customers because, as they very well know, people return a couple of hours earlier than the scheduled time. I will never rent from Alamo again, nor would I recommend it, even to my worst enemy.

In the Netherlands I hired and paid for a luxury car for our trip to the US at Alamo.nl, San Francisco, Orlando and Los Angeles. In San Francisco and Orlando nothing went wrong, we choose from the line of Luxury and we took the Chrysler HEMI 300.
When we arrived at Los Angeles the trouble started. We only got a Cadillac CTS which is similar to a Buick Le Sabre they rent this type as a premium, they must fit 4 suitcases and 5 persons in that car, there only fits one suitcase of 62 cm in the back ...

I hired a car in the evening of 15 May 2007 in Bath. I had a printed form and reservation number from the Internet and turned up at 8am the next day. The staff informed me that there were no cars available as I had booked too late.
It turns out that Alamo's booking system had allowed me to book a car when it should not. Now you can argue about whether it was my fault to assume that a car booked at 6am should be available at 8am the next day but not with the subsequent customer service.
The ...

On the internet I hired a car, after it was confirmed and after the deposit was paid, I asked if I need to take anything with me. The sales person on the other end said just take in your licence but when I got there the staff wanted my credit card which I did unfortunately not have, I tried to give them my passport as ID but they would not accept it. I asked their advice and their answer was to go to the Midlands and pick up my credit card, how stupid is that, they were serious too. I was unhapp ...

I returned the car with a full-tank as stipulated on their web site, I ordinarily do this in any country. After I returned home they charged me a GBP 33.00 "refuelling charge" - for fuelling a car with a full tank! When I contested the charge they pointed to small-print in the US-specific part of contract that states that you should not return it full, but empty. I argued that they never pointed this out to me when I collected the car, and asked MasterCard to intervene. Both claimed that since ...

The car was clean, and the price as part of the package was good. Unfortunately, I waited for TWO AND A HALF HOURS to get my car! Alamo Car Hire were woefully understaffed. It was just ridiculous. People were angry. There were over 50 people waiting, with reservations - only 3 employees. Even those who paid extra for express check-in waited over an hour.

I have used Alamo car hire in 2 countries now (UK and USA), and the poor quality of service from the staff is unacceptable.
The service provided by Alamo staff in Miami was very poor. On the day of rental, it took almost 2 hours to get seen by a member of staff as they were having computer problems, and by the looks of things, staffing problems as well. We had the misfortune of breaking down 5 miles from the rental company, and after contacting the company at 14.30, we finally received a rep ...

I have used Alamo car hire in Florida, and found that in Orlando International, Sanford and Tampa, the wait to collect was unbelievable (almost a three hour wait in Tampa).
It seems that most UK tour operators and online car hire companies use Alamo because they are cheap, so there are always huge queues that take ages to process because the staff are intent on selling upgrades, extra insurances, and anything else they can make more money on.
What infuriates me most is the insistence that ...

Thomas Cook use Alamo car hire in Florida, watch out, and check prices on the Alamo website. Thomas Cook charged me £1500 when I checked on the web the price shown (and Alamo have since said I could get a discount off that price as it was for 5 weeks) for the Same car, the same dates, the same cover, the same location etc was £1065, is that a rip off or what?
Thomas Cook said they could not do anything about that, all I can say is do not book it with Thomas Cook, book it yourself wi ...
